So, I've heard good things about the Drake for ratting, what can we poor min sobs do with a hurricane?
I'm just sketching out a setup before I buy one....
6x 425mm ACs, 2x Medium NOS 1x AB, 1x Web, 2x Cap Rechargers 1x MAR II, 3x Hardeners (2 exp, 1 kin for angels maybe?), 2x Gyro/CPR to sustain
Any ideas on an arty setup? ----

Two CR IIs will cost more than the rest of the ship combined... I doubted I would need CPRs but I would still like to use nos to stabilize the tank instead of 40-60 mill isk.
How well does she tank? Will 3 hardeners and an MAR work well enough?

arty
6x 650II' w/ emp, 2x heavies ab, web, 2x Eut chargers (40m for 2x t2 chargers is a ******* waste of $) 2x gyros, marII, rat specific passive and/or active hardeners.
^note: i used that setup in two lvl 4 missions last night. unauth milt pres and pirate invasion. had no problems.
and as far as the drake goes for mission running: did the last two stages of gurist extrav in it. granted with its kenetic dmg bonus, theres something to be said. nevertheless, both are excellent ships.

For ratting against 0.0 Angels I would probably use: 6x 425's 2x HAML's
10MN AB Large Shield Extender Explosive Shield Hardener Kinetic Shield Hardener
3x Gyro Shield Power Relay 2x PDS
I've been using a similar setup on my rupture and it works well.

Very useful, as a half joking setup I slapped on two large shield extenders and six shield relays, 11k shield hp with 262 recharge. Cap was practically shot to hell though less than one unit per second. With more tweaking and rigs, I imagine it could be an incredible passive shield tank.

This is what I'm doing for L3 missions. It's still a work in progress though...things I am dissatisfied with will be noted:
HIGH: 6x 425mm, 2x Med NOS - I don't think the NOS is necessary. Half the time I forget to use it, and cap is hardly a problem either way, but between drones and the guns, DPS is plenty, save for The Blockade and Mordus Headhunters (and on the latter it's still pretty close, maybe if I used more T2 gear...maybe Salvager...)
MED: Web, Tracking Computer II, Cap Recharcher, 10MN AB II - The TC helps a ton on smaller and faster ships, and lets me start shooting that much sooner. Again with the Cap help...not sure I need it. For PvP it could easily be swapped for Warp Scram, especially with the NOS, without hurting the setup
LOW: 2x Med Armor Rep II, Gyrostab II, 2x T1 Racial Active, T1 Energized Adaptive Nano - The second repper is a recent addition. I originally had 800mm, but I decided I didn't need it because mostly the repper was keeping me above 50% armor and when it didn't I was in a world of **** whether I had the plates or not if I stuck around. ;) Not sure about the EAN, could maybe be another racial, but it's nice on those 'all damage types' missions. I've thought of maybe dropping EAN and 2nd Rep for 2 more Racials, or maybe just the Rep for a small T2 to run constantly. This boat has TONS of cap, so it wouldn't be a problem.
With Electronics 5, Engineering 5, Weapon Upgrades 4 (NOT Adv. Weap Upg) I have about 70 CPU and 88 PG to spare.
Any suggestions?

I used a very simmilar setup to the above (but all t1). Now I changed to 6 650mm Prototype (cant t2 med yet) 3x Named LSE, 10MN AB T2 2 Named Gyro, Local Nano x2, Local Inertia,Named PDS (need cause engeneering is 4 now.. but otherwise can switch to shield recharge bonus)
It is working like charm with angels. For the first time my 1.3 mil Sp character was able to make Angels stravaganza without warping out a single time.

Don't you get utterly OMGWTFBBQPWNED by big battleship spawns? I hardly think you can kill those fast enough with that.. However, I still think EvE needs more and better tactical warning sounds.

I find that unlikely.

I agree whole heartedly on the warning sounds. I hate getting caught unaware.
This is the setup I'm testing out on SiSi (not priced yet):
6x 650 mm medium scout 2x arbalest heavy missile F-90 Positional Sens boost Phased weapon target painter 2x Large F-S9 Shield ext. Pandemonium missle upgrade Counterbalance weapon mount 4x Local power shield relay
I havent had much trouble with this setup at all, It has about 10556 shield hp with 407 recharge (which can be tweaked even lower with rigs or swap outs). Cap recharge is pretty crap, though this setup uses very little. I might swap out either the painter or the sensor boost for a web though to help against the fast frigs or a shield recharger. I've been able to kill every rat I've run across in 0.0 too, including the BS ones. The tank works great unless I'm purely overwhelmed by like 3 BS and a bunch of cruisers etc.
In terms of PvP, this aint the best setup. The one good thing is that it uses very little cap and doesn't move that fast so webs and nos arent that big of an issue. I haven't done much PvP testing as I don't do much of that, but the one time I did, I fought another Hurricane fitted with 425s, armor plates and reps, and drones, a pure gank tank. I got through his shields relativley fast, but once I hit his armor I didn't get much farther because of his armor rep. So him and his drones pretty much just kept wailing on me till I died. It was supposed to be 1v1 but getting 2v1ed factored into that loss.
This setup would be pretty good in group PvP when it can go out to optimal range and just fire away while someone else tackles. But for solo PvP, the AC setup is clearly better.
2006.12.06 04:39:18 Combat Your 650mm Medium 'Scout' Artillery I perfectly strikes Serpentis Protector, wrecking for 339.9 damage.
And that's with T1 arty =). 12 days till I can try out the T2.

While it's true that the Cyclone gets a tanking bonus and the Hurricane doesn't, I'm not sure I can generally agree with the rest of the statement. The notably higher damage output of the Hurricane has its own advantages: when rats die faster, they don't have as much time to do damage.
Admittedly I haven't tried ratting, but the L3s I've done so far in the Hurricane suggest it's at the very least on par with the Cyclone in terms of durability, simply because it pops rats much faster.

Ok, so i am trying out:
6 650 T2 (with a selection of ammo to ensure i make the range from 3 km to about 50km), 2 HAMs
Large extender II, cap recharger, Large shield booster II, invulnerability 1 or 2 (dependedent on isk).
4 power diagnostics (named), a gyro and cap relay.
gives me 10k shield and a recharge rate of less than 300 secs.
It does damage and tanks well. up to 99% on CPU and PG, so it makes use of everything the ship has to offer. Only problem is it is slow and if you get pvped by web and nos you may have some problems unless you take out the tacklers early.

I have been ratting in 0.0 for the past 2 weeks in a Hurricane with great results. Here is my setup.
Highs:x6 220 AC II, x2 Med NOS Mids: x1 Med Sheild Ex II, x1 Invul field, x1 Large SB, x1 AB II Lows: x3 PDU, x3 Gyro II
Can kill x3 BS 950k - 1.2mill solo , NOS the small cruisers since they stay in range most of the time and get close and rip the BS. By the time you kill the 3rd BS you will have almost no cap but the nos gets you thru it by recharging your cap enought to give more sheild boost and keep invulnerability field going. Have never taken armor damage even when up against 3 heavy BS rats. Need try a full T2 setup but have to use parts avaialbe at the corp POS. :) ** note I have passive sheild skills to 3 for all resist types.
Formerly a strong Cyclone pilot with strong sheild skills. Quick comment: I was attacked by a vexor at close range while ratting and taking damage from 2 BS and 2 Cruisers. I had 2 heavy launchers and x6 220mm T1 autos at the time. I was double med NOS'ed and double Med Neutrilized and had zero cap. I still managed to kill the vexor with no cap and had 18% armor left. Auto's clearly rule at close range! I have always carried NOS since the attack because it will drain frigates and crusers quickly if a pirate attacks me while ratting.

I've started using a Hurricane to rat Blood Raiders...
6x Dual 180mm IIs, 2x Nos (don't have HAML trained yet) 1x MWD, 1x Web, 2x Eutectics 1x MAR II, 1x N-type Therm, 1x EANM II, 3x Gyro II
Drones = 1x Hammerhead II and 4x Hob IIs
Reason for the Dual 180's? Much better tracking, I tested on Sisi and orbiting the battleships at optimal returned more misses with 425mms than the Dual 180mms, and also they're cheaper than the price-gouge that are 220mms.
Prolly takes about 30-50 pieces per gun to down a BS. ---

For level 3's I use
5x650 scout artys 3xHeavy Launchers T2 10mn AB II Proto Sensor Booster Tracking Comp II Target Painter MAR II N-Type Exp, Kinetic, Thermic hardeners Ballistic Control II Gyrostab II
I rarely even have to turn on my hardeners, and almost never my MAR II. The Hurricane is an ARMOR tank not a shield tank. The 6 low slots sold me on the armor tank, I don't know about anyone else. It has really good natural shield resistance and recharge rate. I can do level 3's all day with my eyes closed.
