I've played long enough and done missions enough to own a Navy Raven with full racks of T2/officer modules.
Doing missions was kinda boring so I haven't done any for some time. Decided to try if anything changed with patch.
L4 Stop The Thief. Warp in. Enemies are at comfy distance. Start pounding. Down to a couple of BS's a few frigs and maybe a couple of cruisers. NP. Then I get an announcement from the Shadow. "Start killing this guy" (me). The rest of the initial guys are closing in an I get the Boss Shadow, 2 other BS's, 6 cruisers (the merc hurting kind) and 4 warp scrambling Shadow wingmen on top of me. Before I even seem to react my 17k+ (gisti-x) hardened shield has melted away and I'm tugging into armour before realizing I need to turn on the shield boost (gist-x xl + amp combo). With maybe 30 secs of cap left I'm down to 24% armour when I've killed enough to boost more than I loose.
Even though this was the hardest rush of adrenaline I've had in at least last 18 months of playing (thx CCP) I wonder if you guys have any tips that won't make this mission just as hard next time. I would hate loosing all mods I've had a real hard time collecting. Any tips appreciated.
Take care guys and keep missioning

Edited by: Feng Schui on 01/12/2006 20:24:03 Well.. I'm doing this mission right now.. on my 3rd warp out due to @!#$#@ lag... taking over a minute to activate my modules..
anyways...
Flying a Drake, so this should go for a Raven as well I would think:
1) Kill all of the frigs first off. Fly towards a landmark while kiting. 2) After frigs are dead, kill the cruisers. 3) After the cruisers are dead, kill a battleship. 4) The Shadow will spawn with his guys, let them get to just within scramble / web range, warp out.
5) Once shields / cap are regened, warp back in at 50km or more, depending on range of missles.
6) Target and kill the Frigs, then cruisers, then finish up on the battleships.
edit: this mission isn't what i would consider.. "hard"... I have very craptastic missle skills, no faction gear (shield stuff is tech 2, using arbelest heavy launchers).. The lag is a killer :(

I did this mission in a 2x T2 LAR /4 hardener domi and they had my armor down to 1/4 for a little while.. I had a friend w/ me.. probably would have had to warp out if not for him.. But we destroyed the 1st battleship long before we killed anything else, so we were fighting it all at once..
I just did it a 2nd time in a dual gist a-type small shield booster cerberus.. I warped out 2 times doing it this way.. But again I destroyed a battleship first (having thought it was the last frigate kill that triggered it last time) and had to fight them all at once.. And Im sure I'd have done much better if I had actually tanked EM.. I think its the lasers on those merc style caracals that really laid the hurt on me.
If you do the mission wrong/aren't expecting what you're going to encounter, it can be a very painful experience...

Same approach, start finishing off bs. Message appears, bs and whole mercenaries brigade spawn right ontop of me. Instant web scram, abaddon taking in damage with active hardeners, TII LAR can't keep up.. 20 secs later, 1 dead abaddon...even with the extra 25% resist.

I had this mission and I nearly lost my faction fitted zealot...the ships that deal most of the damage are the 2 goons... Shadow's Goon aims well at you, inflicting 148.9 damage Scourge Heavy Missile belonging to Shadow's Goon hits you, doing 180.0 damage thats against a 90% armour resist zealot....no ship ever hits me for more than 40-50

Hey Fjellu,
I don't fly a CNR atm, but have a lot of expensive gear fitted to meh standard Raven.
Quite interesting to read of your travails though. It's a shame that missioners need to mod up to such expensive gear to be able to complete a mission. However, having said that, I believe [but am unsure] that they are changing this mission difficulty in the patch on the 5th.
Still, it's early days yet and I'm sure we'll all figure them out. Then we can go onto moaning about how boring the missions are all again,eh? Lol.
Reminds me of the early Zazzmataz days, and how many panicked then.....me too.

Damn man, that's rought. Shame about your Abaddon
I think I'll possibly avoid this one until after the 5th.

... dont you guys check at least the first two pages of the forums for related threads?
Stop the thief.. easy peasy..
This mission is very very easy.. you can bkmrk your way around the mission space and always have distance between you and any rats = they cant touch you.
Its not a deadspace mission, its an encounter and has loads of things you can bookmark.

Nez,
Aye, I learned this from that thread. A very sound looking solution methinks.

... well lets hope it doesn't get nerfed into a deadspace.. cause then it will be pretty tough..

I had no problem with this mission, could tank everything at once without hassle. Problably because I got good allround resist (lowest = 70%) and full crystal set, capable of shield tanking 870 DPS on weakest resist. To bad the wrecks did not yield any salvagable stuff.
Other then that, nice to see new content, some new mechanics and for some....obviously....a new challenge. The old missions were just getting so bored I did quit missioning completely at some point. I havent looked at how rewarding missions are now, or if it's worth doing salvaging. But for now, I don't realy care anyway, its fun to have something new!
Love you for this patch CCP!

Yup. I panicked and lost a Raven to Zor first time, but learned from mistakes and with proper tactics the mission became easy (got 50+ implants) :) Which reminds me that I haven't seen Kyokan and his for BS use modded Citadel torps in a while.
After reading up on others hints here I think this mission is doable in a plain raven with regular T1 stuff utilizing some good BM's and warp-out tactics. So missioners don't "need" to mod up, but with good mods mods you can cut the time to finish missions and time is money.... Err, ISK.
So it is with quite sadness I read that this mission is going to get nerfed tomorrow. I would rather have seen CCP putting in fair warning, font 32, bold text and plenty of exclamation marks. So that those not wanting to risk their ships would know the danger and those of us who wants the challenge can choose to do the mission. Unfortunately it seems like the whiners won again ..........
