Hello, CCP.
I would like to ask, do you plan to integrate EVE Valkyrie with any motion simulator platform, like motion-sim.cz? This will improve flight feelings even without VR glasses (while with it will be epic). |

Of course this is not a mass product, but CCP can show it at Fanfest and make some advertisements via wow-effect. |

I implemented such integration by myself - it takes only 10 lines of code that send vehicle position + some flags via UDP to local address. That's all. Game does not know about motion simulator at all. Platform decodes this data and moves accordingly without feedback to the game. So, technically, this is very easy to implement and support. The question is - do you need such kind of promotion? |

Maybe ideal Valkyrie sim will require such a monster cage, but existing motions sims will be enough. There are aircraft simulators integrated with it, take a look how it works: http://www.motion-sim.cz/index.php/media/development-samples/111-motion-sim-flight
However, in space we do not have a gravity, so the platform will act a little differently: when spacecraft is rolling right the platform will bank left and vice versa to simulate acceleration to a pilot correctly.
That platforms consume 4kW of power peak and slightly above 2kW in average.
I also do not believe that dedicated VR sim will be successful, because it is great stress for human neural system, but people can play at such motion sims much longer. |

Ranzabar wrote:Actually, all you'd need for most home sim environments is motion cues. One idea is to have a small platform that a seat sits on that will move slightly and rumble to set up the illusion of a physical environment. The mind will fill in the rest. Simple API hooks for a Rasberry Pi or Arduino to work off of would be great. The mechanism can be something as simple as a couple of small linear motion actuators. Yes, this is hardly for casual home use, but it would be cool just to have this thing at Fanfest. Although, it's quite costy in terms of hardware and mechanical stuff, so I just dreaming. |
