Well, I've played the game since back in beta and have had a few extended breaks over the years. So, decided to return again after a couple year break and pretty much wondering what the state of play is now...
Obviously, my primary goal is to get the ol' isk coffers looking healthy again and remembering how to actually play!
So on that note (and in no particular order), here's a few questions:
1. What's the best way to get the coffers looking healthy as I re-climatise myself? Missions, bit of prodution, exploring?
2. Still being only Minmatar based (even after all this time), how much has the "nerf bat" been used on them?
3. Is 0.0 fun anymore or it still the blobfest it's always been?
4. Are WH's worth a look at? or am I better off waiting to see if I'm back for the long haul first?
5. WTH is with the sleepers on the gates now? Yes, I raise my hand to losing a T3 to one (The noob is still strong in me )
Once I've got myself grounded again, just deciding on the best course of action.. As you can imagine, I've had a go at most things the game has to offer (from the epic Blob wars down to a bit of production shenanigans, throw in a bit of carebearing to the other extreme of getting my sec status down to -10 in under 2 hours!)
Now if I'm honest, the pirate in me wants to go back to that again yet last time I found isk revenues were horrendous and was way too much downtime in between skirmishes & not being able to transverse high-sec was a royal pain!
Any ideas / thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Yes and no to everything you asked is about right for basic answer. Yes many things are the same as they were. No many things are not the same.
nul being a bore fest of blobbing depends on your point of view, and in many ways with Fozzie Sov just hitting in the last patch nul is somewhat in a state of flux as players adjust to the new norm.
With the nerf bat hit to reprocessing missions are not as good a ISK maker as they were in years past but you can do OK. Problem is deciding what level and how to run them. Full on blitz in level 3's with a proper ship and fit is perhaps the best over all option for ISK in missions, but to make that work requires some interest and abilities in reading markets to be able to convert items bought with LP into ISK efficiently.
Level 4's are about even between full clear/loot/salvage or blitizing. If you are good with usng the markets to convert LP to ISK that would be the best of the 2. If you are not so good with using markets to convert LP to ISK then the full clear option may be a better choice.

Loot/salvage isn't so good on lvl4. So faster isk is blitz or clear depending on the mission. The other two isk options you mentioned I tend to avoid. But ded sites are a good break from constant missions if you already have the scanning skills to probe. imo hard to break into industry to get as much isk out.

In my experience, lvl4s can get you up to 100m ISK/hour if you do your homework. Salvage can be worth it, but is too much of a PITA to collect, for me at least. Incursions are a little better than missions on paper but involve more down time (waiting for fleets etc.).
Interceptors are now immune to warp bubbles which makes them nice 0.0 exploration ships (among other things). Income is on par with most other income sources, but more random. I came back from Providence with over two billion one night, other days it's just 100m after several hours, if that. |

While true that it's generally not worth doing yourself, it is worth contracting wrecks to Pro Synergy and getting a decent percentage of the proceeds; however I do make sure to loot things like expensive implants (AE 4 has a chance of dropping a 60-70M nav implant for example)

1 ) that depends on what you enjoy doing
2 ) I don't think it is so much the the minmatar got hit by the nerf bat as it is thing just go more homogenized. The minmatar used to stand out in PvP and suck at everything else. Now pretty much all races are roughly equal at all things. I am of the opinion that the minmatar did kind of get nerfed a bit in the process not necessarily directly but defacto. But really it's pretty minor as like I said there is far less that separates the racial ship line ups now-a-days.
3 ) null is different and getting more different every day. The changes have yet to settle out. You'll have to just wait and see like the rest of us.
4 ) WHs are what they are. You either like that sneaky cloaky no-local lifestyle or you don't. There have been some new wormholes added to shake things up a bit even wormholes with stations. And now drifter wormholes that I don't even know much about.
5 ) there is a lot of stuff changing in the game now and I don't think anyone outside of CCP really knows for sure where it is all headed. I myself would like to know where all this drifter stuff is headed. But beware that drifters do pod. So now you can get podded by NPCs in eve. |

Best to consult player written mission reports for specifics. Overall though, it's not what it use to be and blitzing or clearing will bring the better return. There was even a time where undocking my noctis was worth while sometimes. Hiring someone to do it is an option, sure. I tend to just get back fast and finish the mission so it despawns though, attracting less attention to the system I'm missioning in.

If you want advice on operating in highsec as a pirate, ask in a separate thread for it. With the exception of my corporation (we are the wardec wing) my alliance have largely refined those arts.
On your other questions:
1) ISK making - trading is where it is at if you have the head for it. If that's not of interest, exploration sites in wormholes have reasonable drops and can be done easily enough if you are OK with the occasional ship loss.
2) Minmatar aren't flavor of the month but are completely viable.
3) Subjective. I prefer highsec piracy. Some love big fleet fights. It's really lowsec that's in a bad way.
4) Yes. Try a daytrip in a ship and pod you can afford to lose.
5) LOL
Shoot everyone. Let the Saviour sort it out.
I enforce the New Haliama Code of Conduct via wardec ops. Ignorance of the law is no excuse - read about requirements for highsec miners at www.minerbumping.com

The only advice I can give is to diversify ... find a couple of activities you like. Should be a mix of solo and group stuff, so you are independent from other people's schedules. Maybe you have read about NPSI communities ... those are a big thing now for almost 2 years. There you can find fleet action in all potential flavors without obligations, just having fun together. Have a look at the channels of Spectre Fleet, Bombers Bar, Redemption Road and 'x'-up if you like.

Thanks for all the advice so far. Currently I'm:
- Faffing about with missions
- On course to lose my 3rd ship after returning (always do whenever I start playing again! Loki & Jaguar so far.... lol)
- Hitting the screen with a wet tea towel as the overview settings are all different compared to last time I played!
Still, getting there slowly and finding I'm spending more time on the forums seeing what has changed than actually playing!
Ooh.. one quick one to ask:
WTF is with the Anomic Agent mission (think that's what it's called) ? That's where my Jag went *poof* and the damn npc worm was running rings round me!!!
Peace out o/ |

Peace out o/ The 'atomic' missions (a.k.a. burner missions) are essentially EVE PvE on hard mode. You need a very specific fit and strategy or a few buddies warping in with you to beat them. There is a thread in Missions and Complexes where players compiled a solid knowledge base on how to kill the various burners. Also note that you can decline as many burner missions as you want without standing penalties. |
