I've been trying my luck with a vamp vexor setup and the amount of pure hurting delt out to me by thoraxes has made my ears bleed many a time. is it simply a better ship?

I'd prefer the Vamp Vexor.
Savage his Med Drones with your Lights, while keeping (as well as you can outside his effective Blaster range), using your Med NOS on him while doing this. Once the drones are down, swap Lights for Meds, and keep wearing him down with your NOS.

Rax's tend to be useless beyond 5km with guns, so just web and stay about 7km away and you'll beat them. Your drones should be > than his drones with equal skills, simply due to the Vexors bonus -----

I've never had trouble killing a Thorax with a Vexor. Try a dual rep tank with cap injector, 1 nos and 1 neut.

The vexor is tier 3 and thorax tier 4, thats the first hint to why the thorax is better then the vexor.
I my self have piloted alot of thorax's and killed multible bc in one.
For a vexor to be able to take out a thorax its fitt would need to be something like this
Hi 2 med nos 3 125 mm railgun II ( antimatter is your friend here)
Med 2 x webafier 1 x Scrambler ( if ganking, else get a cap recharger here )
Low 2 x medium armor repair 1 x kinetic hardener 1 x Cap relay
The dual webafiers should be enough to slow the thorax enough to keep him out of gun range for a few extra seconds and forcing him to run his mwd more, what you need when facing a thorax is time, the longer he's out of gun range the longer your hp will last when he gets into gun range.
Rax with med drones is somewhere about 200-350 dps where as the vexor with 3 small guns and 5 med drones is about 200 max :S

*.* ... The vexor is the sexiest cruiser around... it can score very good dps with its medium drones. It might be skillintensive but once you have good drone skills its a mean killing machine. It takes effort to fly a Vexor but its very much worth it!
I dont remember I dont recall I dont have memory of anything at all! |

I don't see why people think this will save them... when you web a target it does not stop dead in its tracks right there and then. It takes time to slow it down and by that time, his mwd speed will have gotten him to you. And, every blaster pilot has a webber of his own!

Fit scram, web and AB in mids. Use 1 x Goblin II, 2 x Hammer II, 2 x Ogre II drone combo, 3 x rails, 2 x NOS and lows in the way you like it.
1. Your drones will rip him apart. 2. Your AB + web will keep you out of blaster range. 3. Your NOS won't let the poor guy use his MWD for long.
P.S. T2 heavy drones are easy to learn after Kali.

There are several tactics using a web that saves you from blaster boats. 1: When the rax is moving very fast towards you, start moving down or up, not away or towards the rax. As soon as its in web range, you wab it and it will overshoot you. The Rax not beeing ablt to manouver, will move outside its own range. 2: Wait till the rax hits you and bounces you away. Then web him. Again, speed is way exceeding the ships top speed, and manouver is equal to 0. Leaving you outside the balsters range. Both having a web just makes sure you can stay the distance. If the Rax insists on useing the MWD, he kills his cap.

Edited by: slothe on 08/12/2006 11:53:45 Edited by: slothe on 08/12/2006 11:52:27 You dont HAVE to fit nosferatu on drone ships. man , everyone seems to though :/ try guns. i think the vexoers better with 4 guns anyway (even if there undersized).
personally i always liked the 4x125mm,1xnos, mwd,web,disruptor,1600mmplate,rep,hardners setup.
this can take out frigs and assault frigs easy (as long as in web range) and can also take out cruisers using the right tactics. (also battlecruisers if your good / lucky).

Well, considering that you as the vexor pilot also have a 25% bonus to med hybrid damage, why not fit 4 electron blasters of your own? I've never taken on a thorax with this setup, but I've torn the hell out of a rupture before...

Another point is that if you're using rails on the Vexor, you can already start shooting at the Thorax from a range 40km and up, while bravely running away. Your overall DPS might not be so good, but you can have him in armor before he ever touches your shields. Your drones will also be doing more damage.
On the downside, a 'rax has more base shields and armor to chew through than a similarly equipped Vexor, so it's not an easy win.

4 Electron Blasters can be fitted on a Vexor along with an MWD, Small Rep and a 800mm Plate. Its totally sick and should rival a Thorax assuming similar skills. A Thorax will always have an edge in outright firepower and Hp over the Vexor, but the Vexor can pull sneaky setups while the Rax tends to be fairly predictable.
As people said before, orbit at 7.5k and keep him webbed, use MWD as nessacery to maintain range and you should be able to beat him. -----
