You have a needle in a haystack that you're tring to find. Sucks, eh? So, you spend hours and hours trying to find it and at last find it. End result? Needle retrieved. Another similar scenario - needle's still in the haystack, but you have a crowd of people all looking for it. You happen to have someone find it in about ten minutes. End result? You got what you're looking for. Multiple salvagers mean mutiple people looking for one thing; if its there, you'll likely find it faster, although its entirely likely a single person might get lucky and find it in the same amount of time as a crowd.
Which brings me to my next point - just because you salvage a wreck does not mean something is there to salvage. Schroedinger proposed a paradox which I'm twisting for my own purposes - you come across a closed box on the street, and you don't know what is inside. Before the fact, there exists a large range of possibilities of what it might be, but only one of those is correct - to know what's inside, you have to open the box. It either ends up empty, or has something you want and take for your own.
Any questions ?

Also, there's the issue with people not getting enough components, there are two reasons.
1 - You're not using wrecks with good potential. Mission rats are bad for salvaging, belt rats are better, player ships are best.
2 - You're salvaging at maximum potential already.
CCP have stated that they're looking into drop rates to lower rig prices to the 20-30 Mil area. I'd personally love to see salvaging rates unchanged but requires for rigs fixed so that people don't have all their salvaged loot become useless.
This post is brought to you by the Aeaus can't sleep either foundation, but will be very *****y when he has to wake up in six hours.

Probably . Right now, rigs would go on the market for 50-200m due to a lot of reasons, from low supply due to a lack of established clients, etc...
Oh, and I have to wake up in 3 Aea, ouch.

Also. How good is the eyesight of the single person in question and the mathematical average eyesight of the people in the crowd?
What if there is a bomb in the box and it explodes when you open it [the box]?
Furthermore, is there a chance the the box will contain Chaos in pure form and it will cause the universe to implode?

36 square meters by an overhead view, 75mm length, silver, 3mm diameter.

Assume a distribution of 50% 20/20 vision with the rest at 20/30 near perfect vision and call it LASIK city.
Originally by: Victor Valka What if there is a bomb in the box and it explodes when you open it [the box]?
That's one of the possible branches of the continuum, deal with it.

Let's assume the chance of universal annihilation taking on phsyical form and manifesting itself within a box on Earth at this exact space-time coordinate in the universe's history is neglible and say "not likely", shall we? Yes if you're being uptight .

Interesting.
Is the use of vacuum cleaners, metal detectors and/or flamable substances allowed to enhance chances of succesful retrieval of the said needle?
Since it is LASIK City, are there any people with laser and/or XRay vision participating in this search?
Are any of the people in the said crowd suffering from arthritis and/or any other movement and/or coordination impairing diseases that would hinder them in search for this oh-so-primordial needle?

No, get working.

If by laser vision you mean a surgeon went a little awry with the beam, well, yes.

Salvaging 4tl.
My logistics alt and I are in a low sec system, trying to salvage wrecks - and after 20 minutes all we got was one "Malfunctioning shield emitter". No, thanks.
On 28. of November this salvaging / rigging was released, still (today is 8. of December!) there is not a single (!) rig on the market in Everyshore (I checked yesterday in Sinq Laison and there also was none).
I guess this is what one would call a "barrel burst" or a "still birth". Again, NO THANKS.

No, cause I have a flame thrower. And unlike most salvagers, I have a brain.
I think that some players thought that salvaging was goint to be their path to unending riches in Eve. It turns out that you have to work to make a rig. Oh what a bummer.
As for there being no rigs on the market, maybe cause those that are making them are putting them in their own ships for now.
There is plenty of hints on how to salvage in the millions of bazzions thereads in these forums.

my advice to anyone salvaging right now would be to sell the rare parts (you know the ones that should be common - the circuit boards) NOW while suckers are paying an extremely high premium for them - and then when wednesday comes and they suddenly become cheap as chips buy them back using the money you made from selling them before wednesday :-)

Edited by: Elfman on 08/12/2006 09:35:59 Did some testing re salvaging last night
First off in a myridon helping a corp mate out on a level 3 combat mission and using all highs for tractors or salvagers (so doing 3 wrecks at a time)
From the pirate invasion mission got 50+ components but only 3 circuit boards rest where shield bits and bob's
Second test was re belt rats but due to being rather lazy only stayed in the same system with not many belts. Killed 4 rats and got 5 comp's 2 from first frig 2 from second 1 from last.
Third test - fitted out a ishkur with 2 tractors 2 salvagers and drones and went to a 1/10 complex and let my drones have some fun.
net result 60+ comp's with getting about a 50% drop rate
Still after 5+ hours and now being in dog house with wife kids I still do not have anywhere near enough comp's to make 1 rig.
Mainly circuit boards that seem to have a much lower rate of drop than the other comp's.
Wife working tonight till 22:00 eve time so that gives me 6 hours to test tonight in low sec - 0.0 and if I get time a 4/10 complex
And yeah I know doing a 1/10 in a assault frig is cheesy but it was just to test salvaging - honest ;)
Edit - and typicaly I bought all the rig bpo's apart from the shield ones and guess what all the comp's I have had drop are shield - typical

the bibs and bobs are still reasonably profitable empire is better with a dessy 4 salvagers and maybe 2 guns u can fit a probe and go annoy missin runners and take their wrecks

Maybe, but then there might be also a slight chance that the universe is going to explode/implode/stop existing/changes, so that everyone dies and only opening the box can prevent that. So what do you do ?

The waste was playing on two monitors, always checking alts status (no attacking rats in the other belt, etc...).
I could have had an easier time, watching a DVD on the other monitor while hunting rats.
So, indeed, it was a big waste of time and effort.
From now on I'll leave the wrecks alone, this nickle and dime business really doesn't interest me.
Rat hunting 4tw, but it's fun without the Salvager I's only.

Rigs at their current component prices on the market go for about 50-200m.
Explain to me how that is a nickle and dime business? Even assuming a lot of people are building them for internal use and there's more supply out there, even at 20m at pop you could make a lot of money with nothing more than opportunity cost spent.

Surely I will.
Rigs would be a nice business, but getting together enough material to build one takes ages and being faster @ hunting rats (by using multiple starsystems) gives more income than selling the same cheap piece of "contaminated lorentz fluid" over and over again.
In sum having a second character with me for salvaging who I had to take care of did cost me a lot more than I made out of selling those components (which gave me about 1 million extra ISK - this is 3x 350k spawns).
I wouldn't go after those civilian shield boosters, why should I care about those almost worthless components?
