I've been pondering about the idea of taking this ship out to support a kiting roaming gang but it looks like it goes pop pretty fast. What are your experiences with this ship? |

Good ones, but depending on Fleet composition you are one of the primaries.

Sentinels are an EWAR boat, and a particularly nasty one at that, you're pretty much always going to be the primary against any competent opponents.

Very limited to date, but enough to know they're a lot of fun.
The tracking disruptor will wreck the day of any turret using opponent and no-one enjoys getting neuted out.
Make lots of bounce tactical bookmarks around gates you regularly fight on, never be afraid to bounce out when you start taking fire.

Sentinels are strong ships, however when compared to a Keres, Hyena or Kitsune always fall behind for all-purpose ewar. It's a very specialized ship that is the nightmare of any caphungry, turret based ship. But it's completely useless if it isn't.
Damps work on any ship. He can't lock you, so he can't dps or tackle you. ECM works the same way. Webs on the Hyena are a strong, immediate-effect ewar. Enemy comes close, enemy gets webbed, enemy falls back again. TDs however only help against turrets. Not against missiles, not against hostile ewar.
Leaves you with the Neuts: Even though bonused, they're just about the same range as, for example a heavy neut, which is not that long range to beginn with.
I'd take an Ashimmu with me over every Sentinel. |

Sentinel is one of the strongest 1vs1 boats in the game.

If it had the drone bay like the Sentinel, so would I, but it don't. |

They're super useful in W-Space when you're limited to frigate sized connections. There have been numerous times we've taken out Marauders with a small gang of frigates that would've been impossible without the ranged neuting power of a pair of Sentinels.
AB fit, cap injected with a local ancillary rep and 3 neuts makes life hard for larger targets to hurt you in a serious way.

Interesting. Wouldn't it make sense though for a mara built inside a class 1 wormhole to have a cap battery and would that mess your tactics?

Hm. I dunno about that. Unless it's a Golem it's going to be relying on turrets, and those bonused tracking disruptors coupled with the small sig radius and all those neuts just sounds like a recipe for a migraine for a large ship pilot.
I do need to try one of these things out sometime, as they look like they'd be a lot of fun to fly.
Come hell or high water, this sick world will know I was here.

Thread derailed.
Summary: For a kiting roaming gang, especially smallscale, the Sentinel's undeniable strengths don't provide much support and that pilot is put to better use in a tackle, dps or other support ship. |
