Can anyone recommend a ship just for salvaging & loot collecting ?
Needs to be fast, have a cargo of 600+ and as many high slots as possible to fit tractors & salvagers on.
I have tried using the brutix but the cargo size is a bit on the small size.
I can fly most race ships & have a couple of hundred mil spare, so thats not a problem.
thx

Catalyst is what I use,
Highs: 6 Salvager 1s 2 x Tractor Beams
Mids: 1mn Afterburner 1 Cap Recharger
Lows: 3 x Expanded Cargo Hold 1s
Cargo-hold of about 648m3.

Destroyer. 2-3 tractor beams, fill the other HiSlots with salvagers.
Loot and salvage until the cargo hold is full.
Jettison one piece of loot. Activate the tractor beam on the jetcan. Move around, tractoring in wrecks and salvaging in 1-2 cycles. Drop the loot into the can you're tractoring around.
When you're done, bookmark the can and bring in an industrial. --*=*=*--
The cause for this is not yet known, but we do have a possible fix in testing. by Sharkbait | 2006.09.20 |

Why 600 cargo?
From my experience in Salvaging now, if your goal is simply salvage components and not loot, then 600 is overkill. I use a Cormorant (Caldari Destroyer) with 450 m3 of cargo and with components only don't even come close to filling it, in belts full of 0.0 rat wrecks. Even pulling in some of the more interesting loot folks leave behind (I love how nobody loots any longer, I've almost enough melt in a few weeks of casual collection for a BC, yay), you've got a *lot* of room to spare.
So, I'd recommend the Cormorant. 8 high slots, I can easily fit 6/2 or 7/1 salvager/tractor combos, a MWD and a WCS, plus some cap rechargers. All I need for 0.0 belt salvaging. Seems silly to spend BS/BC prices for 8 slots and 600 cargo when you can do the same job without noticing a difference in a 1m dollar scrap heap of a boat.
If you absolutely cannot live without a huge cargo (again, the size of components is negligible at best compared to how often you get them), then go with the Exequor (sp) and call it a day.

For loot collection and salvaging after missions I use a Megathron - ok, I sometimes also run mission in it (those with the drone aggro thing), so it's not only for that

I use a Cyclone with 4/4 tractors/salvagers and an AB2. You can still fit a reasonable tank on that incase you get shot at.

I'm using a Coercer (Amarr Destroyer) with: 3xTractor 5xSalvager 1xCG-Arcjet AB 2x Beta hull cargo expanders 2xNano
458 cargo, speeds in the 240/500 range normal/boosted.
It's about the best mix of decent cargo, and good high slots I could find. The cap does run down fairly quick, but my playing with activation times on the salvagers, I can pretty much loot constantly.

Hmm....would an exequorer be any decent...it can get up to 2500 cargo space and fit a few tractors in tops....still decently fast...or is it going to work more as a looting ship.

Exequror or Vexor. Personally I use a Vexor because although it comes with a little less cargo space it has an extra high for an additional salvager (2 tractors/3 salvagers). My cargo space on the vexor is appx 1,200 m3 with Betas on the lows.

Full combat load of drones. 1300 cargo hold and fair speed. It can salvage, it can tank, and it can fight (sorta) with drones.

Same here, tho i use nanos, an interial stab and an expander for slightly more cargo room. "Imagination is the key that unlocks the door." - ME |

4x tractor beams 4x salvage modules 1x 1MN AB II
I pull in wrecks, and salvage them, faster than I can care for. At the same time, I'm flying closer to other groups, so that I can fully maximize my efficiency (although, as I stated, I go through wrecks faster than I can lock them).
If 400m^3 of cargo space isn't enough, throw on a Local Hull expander or some such, and either an overdrive or nano to compensate for velocity loss, although such is not neccesary. Make sure you stagger your highs as always, cycle your AB, or add a small cap battery- either way, there ought to be no reason to have any cap issues, unless you feel that all modules *must* be on at all times, regardless of what you are doing.

Edited by: Christopher Dalran on 12/12/2006 21:13:25 I use a Exequror, I run 2 tracking beams and 2 salvagers and it has a cargo bay of 1260m3 for lots of loot. Cruisers are still fairly fast so even with cargo expanders it does not take long to get in tractor range.
I alwayse ran out of space with a destroyer.

Cyclone 4 tractors, 4 salvagers AB, MWD, 3 large cap batteries 3 cargo extenders, inertia stab
984m3 cargo, 400m/s with AB (wrecks dont fall out of salvage range while moving semi-fast), 1159m/s with MWD for long distance. And it has cap to run everything for longer than enough. I am Amarr but my favorite salvage ship is the Vexor. Decent cargo and enough (5) hi slots to have rapid tractoring and salvaging. Plus a good size drone bay and bonuses for defense plus its quite cheap. Also only needs gallente cruiser 2 iirc.

who needs a dedicated salvager when you rat in a domi
4xSalvagers 2xTractors 100mn AB 4xEutetics LAR II Exp II 2xEAN II Named Relay 2xLocal Nanos Bay full of drones
thats my rating ship, cruises around the belts at almost 600 meters per sec, runs everything forever and haven't met a belt spwn I can't tank. when the cargo is full I just jet a can at the last spawn I killed and warp to it with my nub hauler alt thats just sitting in a safe spot cloked.

I bought a Geddon for my new looting/salvaging ship. One of the main reasons was that unless they end up costing like 10,000 isk each IĘm not going to waste a salvage tackle on a tin can.
I would suggest swapping some of the 5 nanoĘs for inertial stabs, and using Cargo IIĘs if possible, they have 1% less of a speed penalty than Locals do. My Wreck Remover:
4/4 salvagers/tractors 100MN AB II, 100MN MWD I, sensor booster for faster locks 3 Beta Inertial Stabs, 4 Beta Nanos and a Local Power Relay 125 m3 of drone bay 600 m3 cargo
She does 260 m/s on her own, 787 m/s with AB and 2212 m/s with MWD; aligns and warps almost as quickly as a frig. Plus thereĘs room in the low slots to sacrifice some speed for cargo, while still being fast enough.
Originally by: JeanPierre (I love how nobody loots any longer, I've almost enough melt in a few weeks of casual collection for a BC, yay),
Yeah, IĘve found some very nice unlooted wrecks. Fully tech2 fitted player wrecks, and even a commander spawn killed by some chump mining in an Abbadon who had already gone on to another belt. There was around 20 million in loot there, including a faction implant.
Originally by: CFC Fodder If 400m^3 of cargo space isn't enough, throw on a Local Hull expander or some such, and either an overdrive or nano to compensate for velocity loss, although such is not neccesary.
Now why in the world if cargohold size is an issue would you put on an overdrive that gives a heavy penalty to cargohold size when there are two other speed mods that are far more useful and donĘt penalize the one and only thing that you are concerned with, i.e. cargo size?

Hockston Axe- I couldn't recall which one I use. I don't buy the mosules all that often, or fit ships a whole lot, but I knew it was one or the other. Sorry, and thanks for clarifying which one it was.

I went with my trusty stabber for empire salvaging.
[high] 6xsalvager
[mid] 10 mn mwd cap recharges
[low] 3xnanofiber
cargo hold is 400 something. Base speed before boost is 460 or so and good agility with the nanofibers.
Though the above idea of atleast 1 tractor beam to drag a can behind you is smart. Might do that.

Apoc: 2x Salvagers 2x Tractor Beams 4x Large Lasers 1x Target Painter 1x Afterburner 1x Cap Booster
The rest is a tanking setup.
Works pretty good since I'm usually multitasking and killing rats while I drag a wreck and a Cargo Container to put the junk in.
I'm probably going to add a Cargo Expander tomorrow as I'm filling up pretty quick. Was out for about 2hrs tonight and filled my ship up with Components and only 2 Mods (I only kept the mods because they were worth 20-30mil each)
I also only salvage BS Wrecks, as Cruiser and Frigate wrecks don't seem time efficient to salvage. I can just salvage what my corp left and what I'm killing them move on to the next belt and do it again. !!~JOIN THE SALVAGER CHANNEL~!! --------- http://www.gorgeousgamers.com/users/Matt |

I've been trying out a guardian as a salavaging ship with my support account and it seems to work well especially for low sec (not to mention getting some use out of it as it has been gathering dust since I got the absolution). Only 6 highs but half decent speed and tank makes it a bit more durable.
High - 2xTractor Beams, 4x Salvager Mid - MWD/AB and whatever seems usefull at the time (I use both AB and MWD fitted alot, AB for deadspace complexes and MWD for Travel and belts) Low - Medium Rep, energised thermal membrane II, 3x Expanders.
You will probably get over 1k cargo using local expanders or t2, I get 902 m3 using beta's. Resist wise I get 60/70/53/59 so not too shaby there either. 179 m/s is not exactly fast but it's not too bad before the AB or MWD is activated.
10 days to salvaging 5

use the dominix it has the 600 cargo so you can fit low with a tank fit mid with ... whatever you damn well feel like and fit high with tract and salvagers with your drones you can now run missions and salvage the kills at the same time. >---- A Haiku with <3 Logged into Jita.
