I understand patch time is tough and I also understand that testing on a system this big will only go so far. However, I am certain you see the issue with continuing to do biz. this way.
When you wrong someone it is like hammering a nail in a board. When you apologize you pull out the nail. Unfortunately the hole remains.
LOL you guys are a trip.
You are complaining because you can not get into a game. Lets review some facts that seem to have slipped your foggy minds.
1. CCP has provided you with FREE extra content. 2. As Murphy stated "S happens" 3. You are complaining about stuff that has been given to you for FREE!!! 4. No other MMO gives you FREE content upgrades! 5. Did I mention that they are giving this stuff to you for FREE?
So you want extra playtime for problems caused by FREE content that CCP could have easily charged us for? Get real.

Wow, can I touch you? Any git with a computer and some spare time can claim to be a UNIX-admin. I'm so sick of the "I'm an IT-professional"-knowitalls. But allright, let's see here:
How many of those "not so small" MMO-style games has a cluster that can support 33,000+ players in the same universe?
Zero?
Your two cents don't get you nothing.

$15 for a month of service. Lose a couple hours and act like the world is ending.
I think I'm missing the value of that $3 difference.

er You're not paying for it . as Xtci pointed out its free. hmm hang on you're right we are paying them money and given its a single shard world it might be difficult to charge for extra content and manage to have a game where one player is being attacked by a ship that their client denies exists because they didn't buy the content upgrade :D

The cable snakes from the wall, to the old man, to this big, wheezing, greasy, industrial-looking thing belching soot and fumes.
That thing is Tranquility. The cable is the one coming from the Internet to the cluster. The guy is Uncle J÷rgstr÷m, the black sheep of Hilmar's family and official "Eve connection throttler." And, every once in a while, he takes a puff on the cigar, clears the phlegm from his throat, and eases up on his grip for just a moment.
And, thus, a few more players successfully log in to Eve.

All I want is a little bit of transparency from CCP.
For example, in this case:
Why are logins being throttled? What happened during downtime that meant TQ is no longer able to manage a login queue by itself
Otherwise I'm just sat here looking at a state-machine... TQ is {UP;DOWN;SORT OF UP} and the best ETA I get is 'this may take some time'. Yeah, what a cutesy message, it's nice, but it does nothing for me.
I'm not gonna moan on and on about how I'm paying for this and deserve a fully working server 100% of the time. If i were unable to cope with this sort of eventuality then I would lost my rag with unexpected downtime a long time ago. I'm a software engineering student and fully appreciate the catastrophe of unexpected breakages. But I do want a more comprehensive explanation of the state of the server and what exactly is going on. __________________________________________________

BS!!
CCP already has a mechanism in place to add content and not allow players to use it.
Trial accounts can not fly lots of ships but they still appear in the world. What is to stop them from using the same kind of switch for each and every expansion that comes out? Again they are giving us the expansions for FREE when they could be charging us for them.

You have not paid for it! You are paying your monthly connection fee that is all. No where did they say that they would provide you with unlimited changes for your $15 a month.
Would you like a lesson is finance and business? You obviously don't know how to logically figure things out.

You and everyone else who reads this forum knows that is Eve was to shard itself, it would lose 3/4 of its players, its market would disintergrate, and the game would be much less fun.

I been playing a long time (im not going to say since Beta like EVERYONE else does because i haven't, i started playing about 4 months after beta) and CCP have frequentley given extra days of play time when patch days have exceeded 24 hours. They probabley don't anymore because theres too many players.
At the end of the day CCP have dropped the ball with revelations, maybe theres coding errors, maybe the server is knackered, but can anyone really expect the server to run sweet 100% of the time?

So you think that "2 for 1" or bogof offer in a supermarket is FREE??? JUST because CCP don't charge does NOT mean they are not charging us for it.
wow CCP, your developers must love working for nothing - and all be rich enough to pay there own rent/food/life bills. Nice one!

I think his point is that EverQuest 2 isn't giving you free expansions nor is World of Warcraft. I've never heard of CCP charging for their expansions.

gotta say that the main problem was the amoung of bugs in revelataions and also the amount of time they took testing which wasnt much at all it was rushed and the end result is ppl leaving ( apparently tho we are reaching record highs) so whats the answer the amount leaving is overstated and the amount of new players was not planned for.

Agreed! But make NO mistake. We HAVE paid for this expansion. Big props to CCP though for making these free, although, with a single shard world they dont really have much choice. Darwin 4tw

Well then Monty a little Marketing 101 for you.
The "2 for 1" ploy in the supermarket is called a "Loss leader"! They know they will take a loss on the item marked 2 for 1 but they are hoping to get you to purchase even more stuff while you are there.
So your example hold no water
