Thats what im talking about! We have to save our world now! Sell BoB Titan to China via EBay and get enough money to make world economics more ecology-oriented.

Ok, so I know that you are joking, but in case you didn't know, global warming has already taken effect. Maybe you cant feel or see it, but if you look at weather statistics, there is a detectable difference from some decades ago.

Problem is the actual 'hot air' that makes people disbelieve it is garbage endorsed by oil companies and the like. Thus not exacly valid most of the time and skewed for the sake of creating controversy on the issue.

While this is most definately something that needs attention, it can also easily be explained by natural fluctuations in climate, which happens and have happened several times in the past. ---

LoL it surely is a lot of hot air. 2 degrees increase means that we(The netherlands) need to have about 10 meters (i believe) higher dijken else 50% will be under water.

Back in ye olde days, the Thames used to freeze over during the winter. People had bonfires on it. It stopped freezing over long before we had any kind of fuel burning economy. So rest your minds with the fact that global warming has been happening for many hundreds of years, and we're still here to complain about it. --------------------------------------------------------------------

I have to agree, EVE IS effecting global warming, however it is in the opposite way that most expect.
If you follow the noodly teachings of FSM you will be aware that global warming and pirates are directly linked. Since the late 1700's the number of pirates globaly has been falling, as the global avarage temeperature has been rising.
So EVE could be an environmental saviour, the more gate campers, hold-up merchants and asset liquidators that are in EVE the slower the rise in global temperatures will be.
So join with me and wear your 'Save the planet, Gank a N00b' T-shirt.

Good Article
Note at the bottom that it mentions that climate change in the last 50 years has sped up too quickly to be attributed to natural climatic change. The Little Ice Age is a hackneyed old excuse............... -----------------------------------------------

good topic but to the OP,global warming will have the opposite effect in the northern hemisphere there is a very good BBC program about the stopping of the Gulf Stream that starts the ice age
in effect global warming melts polar ice cap new fresh water mixing with salt water stops the gulf stream northern hemisphere freezes
CCP servers freeze
so,to slightly go off thread what is the lowest temperature that CCP servers can operate under ? -------------------------

That's only half true, I'm afraid. Sure, there are natural fluctuations, and the temperature naturally varies not only from day to day, but on a global scale, from decade to decade, and from century to century (insert even larger time spans here, if you wish). But thing is, that the rise in temperature that we are seeing now is far outside the normal variations, and still we havent yet seen the full effect of what we are doing to this planet, as it will take some time for the polluting that we are doing now to become detectable in the environment. Also, fact is that once this process has really gotten started, it will escalate by itself, because lots of greenhouse gases are found naturally in the permanently frozen ground of Siberia (I believe thats where it is anyway), and once that ground is thawed, those gases will be released into the atmosphere, adding to the problem.

The dangerous thing is that altough ice reflects 90% of the warmth the sun sends out and only absorbs only 10% the water around the ice does exactly the opposite thus making the ice melt harder because the water is warming up.
If the ice the size of greenland will melt totally into the sea Holland would not excist anymore, nor will large cities as New York Hong Kong Shanghai etc etc. Now I'll burst your bubble of happy thoughts if we continue polluting like we do now around 2050 it'll be to late.
This information I got from the presentation about the current enviroment situation made by Al Gore. It's really a good one to watch tbh, if you care about the world you live in and will give to your children. --------- The succes in your eve career equals the amount of channels you're supposed to be in |

The earth and it's climate has changed many many times since it's been around and I can assure you that after we've trashed it and killed ourselves it'll get better again. Eventually the sun will sort of explode so that's that but still, for the near future that is not a concern. We'll kill everything, die, become oil eventually and put everything back. The earth will go on, it's HUMANS that won't.

Are you kidding? global warming is going to be the best thing that ever happened to the servers at CCP! With all that water around them (assuming they waterproof them first, they could overclock the servers about 200% and not notice any heat issues. No more lag for anyone!!

This thread got me sad when I remembered it today: It's 1 PM and outside it's dark as if it was 5 PM. We have rain now, with lightening. Temperature outside was 8 degrees Celcius this morning.
I live in Montreal.
About 7-10 years ago, we already had snow around this time of the year (and certainly there was no lightning on December 15). I only expect things to get worse in the next years.
To quote one of our clients who was on the phone with me: "Hey, look on the bright side: in a few years, your house will be prime beach real-estate!"
Whatever the causes, I think it sucks. But I won't budge one little bit to make "my share of things" until my neighbours stop using their 5x3 meters truck to go to their office job alone, the city takes my recycling bin and puts it in the trash, and other things like that. Stories. |

Thank you
Thread suddenly got serious .
Those who think climate change isn't happening: evidence of receeding ice caps to a steady increase in annual sea levels, prove otherwise. Those who think that it can be reversed are also deluding themselves.
In the 1700's the industrial age " "officially" " began in the midlands. British industry awoke, so to speak, and the skies of Liverpool, Manchester and London were filled with the fumes of progress. Since that time, laws, heavy industry and technology have changed but in the last 250 years more greenhouse gas have expunged the environment to such an extent that turning back is (in my opinion) not possible.
Look at the reduction asked for in the Kyoto Protocol and you will see that in terms of a historical global output, it is no less than a dampener on the ever growing increase in greenhouse gas emissions.
Does this mean the world is going to end? Of course not. But I think the enevitable "tipping point" has already been past and if it hasn't, nothing can be done to slow us down on its approach.
Of course, this is all opinion. The irony in this situation is that the nations that have effected said change in the global climate are also the most able to limit its impacts, whilst less able and poorer nations will be left to feel its brunt full on.
I live in West London, around 5m above sea level close to the Thames. In my lifetime, I fully expect parts of london to either ice over from a shift in the alantic current or become semi-submerged following the trend of local sea level rise. Whatever happens, this is a problem the globe will have to face together...but sadly is more likely to disunite all in a mad rush for national interests.
