I was curious what ever happened to these ideas that were "experimental" according to the video? Will we ever get what is in the video at the 9 minute mark of localized damage or the high resolution textures?

It makes for outstand screenshots and videos... I believe CCP has already implemented high resolution textures on most everything in the game.
As for the Localized Damage, Bloodline Blending, etc., those are great ideas along with Atmospheric Flight, Ambulation, Modular POS, Avatar Exploration Sites, Ring Mining, etc.
Every year at Fanfest CCP unveils new ideas which they always promote as a WIP = work in progress.
That means it may take years to develop and more importantly, may not even be added to the game due to unforeseen issues.

That localized damage thing looks so nice is so sad they will never implement it its weird that after my ship recieves 5 minutes of concentrated fire the only visible damage is a lame trail of fire. |

I'm still waiting for single PC client where you get to use same character on Legion (Dust 514 pc version) \ Valkyrie \ EVE online.
I remember watching some time ago the video with the concept from the fanfest and I thought myself it looks great. Actually number of people I know wish to join EVE once this concept is reality. |

1) this is in the old ccp era. what i mena by this, is sense about 2014, ccp has kinda shifted to a 'what is actually coming' instaead of 'what might be coming' stance
2) they RnD stuff all the time, but sometimes things like back end changes need to be made for it to necome viabale. Stuff has been chaning behind the scenes, so we may see some of this come to light, esp if an engine upgrade is in the works (and eve is a bit past due for an upgade imo)
3) the point of these is to get people to talk about it and tell ccp they want it. thats how the dedicate resources to side projects.

Many of those ideas come up periodically as we plan for future releases. Some of the stuff we've shown as experimental over the last couple of years is likely to come sooner than other things.
However, rest assured that we have plenty of new graphics work in the pipeline, both overall improvements and improvements to specific assets.
I'll refrain right now from talking details because a lot of the stuff we're working on isn't ready to show in its final form.

What a tease.... Interesting point... Game is stunning, but we cannot default to interesting camera mode. can we get a second player default camera so I see this perspective all the time?
Just offset camera, set depth and zoom. Fantastic. Small sample of how eve should look by default...

You guys should reconsider that honestly... I know the old arguments of don't promise something you cant deliver but in this case a little nerding out over new stuff or planned changes isn't exactly a bad thing. EVE isn't your normal community. While we can be vitriolic as hell we also tend to like seeing progress... even if we also complain about that progress to near infinity.
A half assed "wishlist pipeline" with actual DETAILS on the directions CCP wants to take the game in would be very well received by the community. |

Note that this is a thread which started with linking our art panel from three years ago saying "Where is this stuff you showed us?" That's the risk of being too speculative.
That said, typically this time of year is when CCP takes (and other Icelandic companies take) a fresh look at their roadmap. That means that it's a little harder to speak to future plans than it might be otherwise.

I feel like fanfest is a special behind the scenes peek into some aspects. and some of the presentations or side shows are individual devs or teams showing something cool they did, on a prototype scale. I remember at FF14 seeing a bunch of what looked like prototype sketches off to the side, maybe some of those made it into eve as t3 destroyers, then again maybe it was Valkyrie or dust art? I wish I took pics of some of the stuff.
then again if it gets announced in a keynote perhaps a higher standard should be held

I think the main problem is that the legendary "soonGäó" response when talking about upcoming features that never happen is wearing a bit thin now.
It was funny 4-5 years ago... not so much now. Especially when CCP themselves use it in Devblogs.

This is exactly my point.. You have a large community of long standing players. We know things will get changed.. we know technical hurdles of tranquility are 100% unique in the gaming world.. and we know CCP isnt a huge company capable of throwing 500 people at something like Ubisoft or Activision.
What a decent majority of us want, however, is SOME kind of roadmap which is more detailed than "stuff is coming".
Even along the lines of a simple list structure like: Sov finishing>Removing POS and replacing with new structures
Just a basic rolling list of what is currently being done without making it so time consuming as to eat into actual dev time. Even for the art department knowing what ships are on the block for redesign would be interesting.
We're eve players.. we are conditioned to wait years for things.. but it would be nice to know more of the direction CCP is taking the game other than "trust us stuffs coming".

they have this road map, or have you not been paying attention? Here is the current roadmap as of eve vegas last year (note it did not change at fan fest) Map
A road map is a general overview of whats coming. not a step by step guide. You have your road map. They are in the mist of replacing sov, replacing pos' and improving corp and alliances tools before adding new stuff. There is also a separate road map that works along side this for the art team as they get split into making cool stuff. This is essentially all we will get as that is the main road map. I expect we will see an updated version either at eve vegas or fan fest, and not before

they have that, dust is profitable as of eariler this year.
they have gunjack which should be out before the end of the year (if the gear VR CV is coming then) this was not that expensive a game to make and should net them some money. and they have Valk coming. CCP will be fine starting next year.
but i do agree, WoD should not of been scrapped. But oh well

Read the comment again. I'm asking politely if CCP would consider a more detailed roadmap even accepting the fact that it will be changed as to provide a more definitive definition of the direction CCP is taking their company and their product.
This is a pretty normal request in business. Additionally roadmaps come in all shapes and sizes. CCPs tend to be vague with no actual narrowing. It would be like Toyota saying "Hey we are releasing a truck next year!.. and maybe some cars. Blue ones! These are examples of a roadmap which gives progressive detail without going into an absurd amount of time: http://www.teitanso-toyota-city.com/en/imgs/img_roadmap/roadmap_graph.jpg http://www.frost.com/prod/servlet/cio/226755697
In addition lets pick apart that roadmap you linked.
"Industry science teams" Whats being changed? Would it be terrible to list "Adding indexing, removing queues, datacore rebalance"?
"Sovereignty & warfare" Again.. whats being changed? Blanket statements are terrible. Would it have been terrible to say "Removing HP Grind. Spreading conflict to more than one system. New mods/mechanics for SOV capture" ?
"Stations outposts and starbases" This ones the worst.. This is major art and code investment.. you know months out about ideas like citadels and new sov structures. Even a comment about "redoing the whole thing to get rid of spaghetti pos code" is acceptable.
These types of still vague but direction filled commenting let us, the bankrollers of the game, WANT to invest and hype the game. Right now you get bad press as the only press. If someone asks me about aegissov what do i realistically tell them? "It's not done yet."
Lack of information is a terrible idea for this specific community which likes to plan, speculate, and argue everything. |

Plus there are tons of dev blogs and dev posts in features and ideas that go over all of this specifically.

the public road map is an over view map. what you want is a detailed map, and as started already, when they have that information set in stone, they release it. there is a sov road map which is here:
Sov map
Structue map which is here:

Thats all we got so far. anyway this is pointless, the answer you will get is 'when its ready we will show it'
