If I recall:
They nerfed the heavy missiles, range and damage They nerfed the passive bonus from Invulnerability mods They nerfed the amount of launchers on the T1 Drake They offered up a Navy Drake, but it's not cheap, so it doesn't fit in the 'disposable PvP ship' class
Eliminating the most popular, versatile, mid-size ship in the game: It was a brilliant business decision that has helped to render battleships obsolete, and has seen subscriptions drop by nearly 40%.
There are currently some really cool frigates and destroyers though
( Just my opinion. I could be tired or bitter or nostalgic or all of the above )

Didn't the buff HML damage output a few months ago? But Drake is to slow in sublight and warp speed and agility in the current meta wich is why almost no one flies them. |

Yes to make room in one lowslot to fit a module that isn't worth fitting.

it's still around, pretty much the same as it's always been but just locked to kinetic damage now. |

Let's see. In no particular order (because I don't remember) The Tier3 BC introduction that gave us a bunch of kitey ultralong BCs with good damage and projection. Which was kinda part of the point about the drake. The resist nerf (used to be 5% per level, now 4%) The HML nerf. The BC tiericide that was actually drake and cane genocide. The cruiser tiericide that made cruisers into hungry packs of cheap, effective and extremely fast velociraptors. With T1 logi support to boot. The battleship tiericide that made battleships into hungry packs of cheap, effective and extremely fast... Errrr, wait. Or not. If you disregard the bomber scare, battleships ARE cheap (hulls are almost free if you count the insurance. It's pretty much fit + a bit on top), more or less effective (they get noice deeps and heavy neuts and buffer and local reps and all), and relatively fast (a good bunch of them actually goes faster than a drake). Oh, the warpspeedicide. It's annoying with BS too, but at least there you get yourself some nice stuff in compensation.
I mean now you have an apoc that burns everything in a 80km radius. You get a geddon which is actually a good alternative to the cruse. You get a like 4k local tank hype. Or a facemelting mega. Or a tanky and shooty rokh. Or an actually decent raven. Or an awesome phoon. Or a tempest. Whooo boy the tempest. It's a poor man's mach these days. With 2. TWO. AS IN ONE MORE THAN ONE WHICH IS ONE MORE THAN ZERO SO TWO MORE THAN ZERO TOTAL! utility slots. Which is better nado than a nado and in some sense not much worse mach than a mach.
And in the blue corner you have the drake. Which goes 1,2km/s linked on MWD. Which is 1,5 times slower than a pest or a phoon. And about on par with Abaddon The (not)Flying Brick. And a bigger sig than a phoon. You could fit an RHML raven and would literally do (almost) everything better. More DPS even if you account for the reload. Selectable damage types. Faster. Tankier. With a heavy neut. |

pretty much everything above is right. although the drake always had the kinetic bonus, shifting it from 5->10% and droping a launcher makes it far more powerful with kinetic than other types.
one I can add: MJDs make it nearly risk free to try level 4s, even if it is inefficient.
here is what is going to happen to the drake: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=445114&find=unread looks like it is still the most used bc. Percentage of all T1 Combat BC jumps (gate+wormhole) by ship over the past 30 days Drake 37.4% Myrmidon 17.4% Hurricane 11.7% Prophecy 7.4% Harbinger 7.3% Ferox 7.3% Brutix 7.2% Cyclone 4.3%

People realised it wasn't very good to start with.
