I read once that the average subscription length for eve was 4 months. it was about 8 or 9 months ago and I believe it was a CCP employee that posted that tidbit.
Later I saw someone mention it was 7 months.
I am not sure any of it is reliable. I am very curious to know.
I started my account in december 05 but took about 6 weeks off during the summer.
Nuke it from orbit. It's the only way to be sure. |

Average subscription - 36 years.
Why?
Because I've been to the future. And everyone plays EVE like it's their actual life.
...wait a sec.. that's the present not the future...

I read 7 months, and then I read someone posting its now 13 months. It was a few months ago, so could be more or less now. :)

A dev once said it was 9 months. -----------------------------------------------

I'm more interested in how often players take breaks from EVE.
Of players who's accounts are expired for at least 1 week before being activated (to exclude gtc/cc mistakes), how long was their initial subscription period?
How long is the average break?
How often do they take breaks?

Well, simple math will tell you that average "lifetime" of a subscription in EVE is increasing and will KEEP increasing all the time. Why's that ?
Ok, ask yourself this... if you have a 20 mil SP character... if you already "lasted" this long... would you rather give up and play something else (or nothing)... or would you rather keep playing EVE instead ? Statistically speaking, the more time you spend playing EVE, the more likely you are to keep playing EVE in the future.
The only thing that might decrease average subscription length is massive amounts of genuine new players, out of which some give up before they get to know the game well enough to stick around... and that's less likely now (the giving up) as it used to be.
So, expect average subscription length to keep increasing. _ My skills | Mod/Rig stacknerfing explained |

Hmm... I believe the average subscription length is as follows: X = Total subscriptions Y = Total Subscription time Where: Average = Y/X
More specifically the last 'official' word I saw was a DEV in an article who stated that the average was somewhere around 9 months. It was in PCGamer I believe... don't recall the exact article though, or i'd provide a link.

Burning Crusade comes out in a month. Say what you want about WoW, Bliz spends some serious time and effort thinking about fun factor in their game. Expect a 10-20% drop in subscription numbers shortly.

I never understand why the heck people even try to compare EVE with WoW, or even assume that people interested in EVE would be interested in WoW or vice-versa. It's like comparing Elite:First Encounters/Capitalism with Dune2/Warcraft1 or something like that. Sure, they're all (mostly single player) games, but they don't appeal to the same crowd at all.
And TBFH, if subscription numbers drop BECAUSE of a new WoW expansion, I'm pretty confident those specific EVE players that are no longer around/active for the time being won't be missed much anyway. _ My skills | Mod/Rig stacknerfing explained |
