BBC News technology page: Type your job title into the search box below to find out the likelihood that it could be automated within the next two decades.
I tried Air Traffic Controller and the result was "Likelihood of automation? It's quite unlikely (7%)." Hmm, I would have thought a much higher percentage.

Don't worry, I have the real search box and it is below, and my job title includes automating jobs and job title within the next 2 decades.
21% to 6 times up. By the way, ATC already has more than 7% automation.
+ MS Win XP has limited support to its automation starting today, September 15, 2015. Less than 8%. |

Oh my word. How entirely predictable. I won't say what I do for a living, but...
"It's quite likely (95%)".
What is less predictible is that 95% still only qualifies as "26th out of 366".
When a person is insane, as you clearly are, do you know that you're insane? Maybe you're just sitting around, reading 'Guns and Ammo', masturbating in your own faeces, do you just stop and go, 'Wow! It is amazing how f*cking crazy I really am!'?

The scary thing is that you're asking an automated program for its opinion of how likely it is that your job will soon be automated. |

I'm a diesel technician. 65%? I find that hard to believe. Machines are machines, they break, unpredictably, and you can't pre-program repairs for many mechanical situations. Maybe automated to a certain extent, such as preventative maintenance, but when it comes to making real repairs improvisation is key more times than you'd think.

AI will recommend replacing the entire drive train. Which will suit the auto manufacturers just fine.
Which kind of relates to all of the enthusiasm and hype about developing self-driving cars. Yeah, great, if you can afford one. And afford to be keep it continuously, perfectly maintained. It's discrimination against the old beaters/junkers owners-drivers class of citizens.

A better question would have been witch middle-management positions will become OBSOLETE with greater automation Many of the jobs listed require unskilled or semi-skilled labor, employing people in these fields would still cheaper than owning and maintaining robots...... at least for the foreseeable future. The nearest thing to my job (Bar Worker) has a 91% probability of being automated witch dose not make any sense.... how the **** would a robot make banter with the locals? Did they just 'distill' bar work down to 'serve drinks'? Whoever wasted MY TV licence money on this **** should be 'automated' out the door of Broadcasting House

this reminds me of a transcript of a conversation I once read about between a senior Ford president and a senior American union official which went something like this
president :- When our brand new fully automated manufacturing plant comes on line there wont be any use for you and your riffraff and your constant strikes !
union official :- when your new fully automated plant comes on line and theres no one employed on the site ....then who will buy them ?...
food for thought ? |

Everyone except the unemployed former ford workers (and potentially them too if they got other work). |

Likelihood of automation? It's not very likely (25%)
Considering an hour ago we were restraining, sedating and secluding a 6' tall psychotic Sudanese guy I really don't know how you could automate that ****. I think robots capable of that are a lil more than 20 years off lol

wasn't there talk about the previous labour government considering amalgamating the fire service with the police because fire fighters spend less than 1% of their time actually fighting fires ? |

I'm in Australia and work in the prison service (+ private security industry).

I don't trust it.
Why, are you afraid it will tell "you are obsolete"?
It depends on who programmed it. It depends on how you would react to that answer.
Computers can be shut down, at least when you are still controlling that you have the switch.

Anyone who's ever shot a red cross NPC or played Civ series or Total War series should not be too worried about losing a job to a robot. AI is still horrible, after all these years. They call it AI, but it's just a set of "do this if this, do that if that" rules that some human had to define. For example, elite late-generation AI in action.
On the other hand, if I ever get a tattoo, I want a digital precision robotic arm to do it. But only if the design is picked from a catalog of set designs. Or perhaps something I uploaded to its massive data-processing power/digital precision execution/no common sense little brain.
