Hey guys, I'm trying to find a moderate-skill rupture setup that can accomplish level 3 missions. Is that insane? Should I give up on it and just keep grinding level 2 missions until I'm 93 years old?
I currently fly it with 4 720mm artillery on it, but that leaves no room for anything else.
I prefer to shield tank over armor tank if at all possible (though I know this is difficult with only 3 medium slots).
Any advice at all would be greatly helpful. I really just don't want to shell out money for a battleship + insurance right now, but I'd like to do some L3 missions.

i have the same problem as you, i also prefer to shield tank also and i dont want to switch to any other ship. Although it might end up being that i would have to change the way i tank anyway lol. I ended up buying a typhoon, which seems to be doing a good job tanking with shields.

Use 650 mm scouts and get a cyclone or hurricane.
Most lvl3`s will eat a cruiser unless you have really good skills/fitting/tactics and even then.

I have run many level 3 missions in a Rupture. Granted, I do have good skills for it, and many are still very tough, but many are also doable. Just don't expect to do the missions without warping out.
I don't remember my exact setup, it has been a couple of months I last flew it, but I think it was the following, or at least close to it:
High: 4x 650mm artillery 2x assault missile launcher
Med: 10 MN AB Web Cap recharger
Low: Med armor rep 3x active hardener 400mm plate
Electronics and engineering to the max, of course.
T2 where I could use them, named can also work. 3 active T1 hardeners use more cap and are about the same as 3 EANM II's, but the actives cost somewhat less. I don't use T2 ammo on missions, so T2 guns just give some more DPS over Scouts - though this can work with lesser guns, too. Fusion works on Angels, Phased Plasma on most other things. Small drones. Drones and the launchers are for close inty control.
I did a level 4 combat mission in this by mistake, so it should be able to take on many level 3 missions. (I thought it was a level three, but after I found out it was a bit hard I checked the mission when returning and saw that it was a level 4 agent...) I haven't done all level 3s with it, so be careful.
Cyclone is much better on level 3s, though. Rupture is more fun, of course.

I see... thanks for the setup! Anyone else got one?
I also plan to eventually buy a Typhoon, but I don't like the idea of 100+mil flying out of my bank account quite yet... we'll see how my business goes today and I'll go ahead and throw a rupture at a lvl 3 later :).
So if I use the 650's and the armor hardener... when do you warp out? half armor? Less?

A little general advice. Allways be aligned for warp-out. When hull starts to take hits (typicaly at about 15% armor) warp out. Allways look for the scrambling effect on your ship.
I cannot tell you of a rupture setup, but I've done loads of lvl 3 missions in a Maller without breaking a sweat. (Maller rocks ) Yes, i got good skills, but I also use an entire t1 setup. Some named, but definately not top of the line.

If you have a hardened armour tank don't wait until you're taking hull damage before warping out unless you're very sure you'll warp instantly (no lag, no alignment) because your hull has no resistances and will take damage much faster.
If you want to do level 3s and shield tank get a Cyclone.

The Rupture will have a hard time with some missions unless you have top notch skills. If you can afford a hurricane, they rip level 3's apart. If not, drop down to 650's if you are having fitting issues. They are good guns as well. Less damage, but better tracking, and you prolly a better fitting if you were having issues.

Drop to 650's T2 if you can use them will help alot bit of damage loss but they make up for it in tracking fitting and rof.
The hurricane will be good for you cost's a fair bit around 40m but will eat lvl 3 missions easy but its an armor tank.
If you must shield tank buy a cyclone or a maelstorm there poor crap make's it hard to run a shield tank but the bonus allow's them to get a half ass tank on.
The typhoon is a armor tank. !

Not entirely sure how well the rupture would handle Lvl3s whilst shield tanking, probably not very well with only 3 Mid slots.
You are better using an artillery setup using 650mm Arties, armour tank on the lows, ab, tracking comp and cap recharger mids.
Should find that it hammers out the lvl3s no problem at all. Failing that if you like to shield tank, switch to a cyclone, very very good for lvl3s, especially now post HP boost. Hurricane is better imo (faster) but overall cyclone does good.
Fit as follows
[High] 5x720mm Howitzer 3xHeavy Missile Launchers [Mid] 1xLarge Shield Booster 4xHardener [Lows] All PDU2
Works a charm. Bit of a slug, but works well enough. If you find you are doing ok, you might swap a hardener out for an afterburner, improve speed a little.

You do know there are battlecruisers right? They are perfect for level 3's and they aren't that expensive. Cyclone is a great shield tank.

Why? Do what the ship is designed to do and armor tank it. Shield tanking a Rupture is akin to putting lasers on a Rupture: WRONG.
