Hi. I see sites that sell ISK and ships. Is it legal to purchase ISK (as in, not an EULA violation that will get me banned)?

Edited by: oDDiTy V2 on 20/12/2006 06:09:02 No. It's against the EULA and will get you banned :).
EDIT: However, it is legal to buy game time cards and sell them for ISK, which, essentially is the same thing as buying it, however the money goes to CCP and not some random farmer.

Quoting the EULA (section 7.B): "You may not transfer, sell or auction, or buy or accept any offer to transfer, sell or auction (or offer to do any of the foregoing), any content appearing within the Game environment, including without limitation characters, character attributes, items, currency, and objects, other than via a permitted Character Transfer as described in section 3 above."

Sure, as long as your bank has no problem with online orders for Icelandig Krona.
In case you think about buying ingame ISK, say farewell to your pilots as long as you can. --*=*=*--

So let me get this straight. You would pay real money for video game currency? Ask yourself the moral questions before you ask the legal ones.

The people that actually BUY ingame money by spending their own real-life cash is probably some of the saddest individuals and should not be let into the game in the first place. They screw the economy and various other things.

Sure. Inform a GM though, so they'll update your account. --
Yeah, so Caldari suck at close range. Pity you'll never get there.

No, they don't screw up the economy.
But they make working on the game a business opportunity. And as soon as RL money is included, the spirit of 'playing' is violated and perverted.
And they make politicians without a clue about online gaming to think about taxing your ingame wealth. --*=*=*--

Lots of moralistic chest thumping here... So if it is against the EULA, how do these sites operate? Doesn't CCP know which toons are "working" for these sites? These operations seem pretty slick and professional. How do they get away with it?
Also, how do people get away with selling their characters? I know that certain complex-spamming alliances (can you say hello in Russian?) like to buy account complete with carriers so they can make more ISK to sell...

They try to get away, and when they're caught they're banned. I have yet to see a farmer carrying the site's link in their name or something like that.
Farming and sweatshops are not against the Eula.
Transferring characters is a service offered by ccp - for cash. The chars come with whatever they have (Isk, ships, standings, bad breath).
Transferring accounts is not an option. If you get caught sharing an account, bye bye - with all accounts linked to your payment option being tainted. --*=*=*--

You have no idea how easy it is to camouflage ISK flow ingame... also, selling characters is allowed in the EULA.

As stated in the EULA, buying ISK with real-life money is against the rules, which can have nasty consequences on your account. Please don't do it!
