I'm a T2 BPO owner. In fact I have a number of them as I got in early because I could see this was going to pay off big style. I'd been witness to other CCP*****ups and knew they were on to a monster one with this idea. I also bought the research management skill for anyone that wanted it in my corp back when 40m isk was a really big deal. Gotta have tickets to win a lottery, right?
Anyway, my point is, yes I've been making billions and billions of isk for doing very little. Invention in its current, or any form for that matter, will change my markets (and already has). As one of the lucky BPO owners all I will do is drop my prices until those who have invented are priced out of the market. As long as I'm making a profit what do I care?
If the other BPO owners feel the way I do (and why shouldn't they?) then this will just be the result across the board. Prices will be lower but it will still be the BPO owners who are making the sales. Ok, there might be a huge increase in demand, but CCP have kindly reseeded the Research Agents so I'm guessing the two will balance out a bit.
As far as I can see, however you look at it, invention does not fix this problem. What I've always advocated is that all BPO's for T2 are removed from the game and T2 BPC's are then the only way to make T2. These should then be dished out from various sources - missions/npc's/complexes/loot containers - and will be available to anyone. If you don't have the skills you could then sell it to someone who can and still make a little isk.
If they implemented the above the T2 market would be fair for all, wouldn't it?

Dropping T2 prices is the desired result by most people, people don't care whether that's through increased volume or competing sellers or what. However you can't drop your prices below the resellers' prices without a serious increase in production volume.

This is true. Demand for T2 is astronomical even with the prices. Dropping them will drive it up further, so unless you can out produce market demand, inventors will still make a profit off the demand you can't satisfy.
It's really not as straight forward as you've described, and I'm sure you may find some real competition.

I think your suggestion would be a huge step in the right direction.
Another suggestion (from one of these threads) that I like is for R&D agents, Exploration, etc. to give T2 BPCs and for Invention to give crappy quality BPOs that could then be researched (ME & PE) and improved. That way the major alliances and current T2 Barons could go after the mind-boggling process to obtain data interfaces for the BPOs and us unwashed industrialists could either obtain BPCs from their agents or buy them on the market.
