as a dedicated mission runner, I have to say the most annoying thing about the process is looting after killing. The addition of the solid triangles to wrecks that actually have loot is very nice, but the process is still slow...
I added a tractor beam to my ship but it's almost more trouble than it's worth. you have to target the wreck, get within range, activate it, wait for the wreck to get all the way to you while you loot something else or meet it halfway, and then untarget the wreck...
how good are micro warp drives? are they of any use in this process, or are they more imprecise and will send you a certain distance in one direction but won't warp you conveniently to a wreck?
is there any other way to speed up the looting process, besides tractor beams and afterburners?

Microwarp drives are like heavy duty afterburners, basically. They don't work in deadspace though, which means they can't be used in most (all now?) missions. The wrecks should remain even after you finish the mission. If it's getting to be a problem, just bookmark each level in the mission, go back and complete it, then come back in a hauler with several tractor beams and a MWD.

Many people suggest using a destroyer with AB and as many tractor beams. MWD might cause you to bump or overshoot the wreck. Friends or contracted people can also speed up the looting/salvaging process.

Edited by: Ensvey on 20/12/2006 19:25:44 ooh good ideas! a destroyer with an AB and multiple tractors might be ideal. maybe I'll start doing that, at least when the mission is in the same system as the agent.
GC13: do deadspace areas become non-deadspace after you complete the mission, so MWD's start working there when you talk to the agent again? or does deadspace not count when you warp straight in using a bookmark instead of using the acceleration gates?

It basically stops being deadspace. Any enemies you didn't kill, any structures still there, any pretty dust clouds for visual effect, everything except the wrecks are gone. It turns into a plain old bookmark in the middle of nowhere, meaning you can use a MWD.
Now, they may have gone and changed this with the addition of wrecks (I haven't done missions for months), but since it was never in the patch notes, I highly doubt that anything changed.

I can confirm that nothing has changed. You will find your wrecks waiting for you to harvest.

I was working on a Level 3 (the blockade) mission on Sunday - it took me several hours to complete, and my wrecks started dissappearing before I could loot them all - so don't take too long to recover them. It wasn't deadspace either, as I was warping to stations and warping back in without going thru any jump gates.

Remember you cannot use an MWD in Deadspace. ABs only.
I use a Catalyst as my loot monkey. Four tractors and four salvagers and it cleans everything up in a jif. Kinda fun actually to try and be as efficient as you can. I tow 4 cans behind me and drive to a fifth out of range. Empty and salvage cans behind me then tractor the next thing in. Looks kinda cool too to have a bunch of tractors running at once.
