After reading up on some posts I decided to get an Incursus. I wanted to do long range (So far I lost 2 Tristans and like 3 three starter ships in the 6 days I been playing, using blasters)
So far on the Incursus I got; 3-150mm rail guns (scout1 accelerator cannons) scanning dampener sensor booster
What else should I get?
Thx, Streg

Edited by: Messingaround on 21/12/2006 06:35:28 Edited by: Messingaround on 21/12/2006 06:34:11 You can fit the following with the skills you start the game with (if you chose a combat career with I think it was special ops), I've been using it since creation:
High: 3x Regulated Light Ion Phase Cannon I Mid: 1x Monopropellant I Hydrazine Afterburners 1x Micro Capacitor Battery I Low: 1x Small Armor Repairer I 1x Power Diagnostic System I
Fits with 41.00 of 41.06 powergrid available, has the best cap/sec figure I could get with any cap-influencing tech1 modules in the game, and has pretty much everything you need. Combine with a light drone for good measure, or better named item variants if you can afford them.
Note that yes, you do have to warp out on occasion with this setup, for example in Unauthorized Military Presence (you tend to pull stage aggro with the drone, and not only there). Learning to judge when to warp out is actually a very important thing if you ask me.
But you know what the most beautiful thing about the above setup is? 125mm Railguns take the exact same fitting requirements as Light Ion Blasters. You can easily substitute them for each other according to your needs, without having to make cuts in other fitting.

OK, he said he wanted a long range setup. That would not be blasters.
I've never used a long range setup on my Incursus, I'm not sure how good an idea this is. It can probably work fine. But I wouldn't waste a mid on the sensor booster for a mission frig, I'd think about fitting a webber if I were you. In any serious mission, the NPCs will vastly outnumber you and they are going to close on you and you'll use the web to slow them down and hit them when they get close. And definitely train to use a drone.
I dont know what a scanning dampener is. Maybe its a sensor dampener? ECM doesn't tend to be very useful in missions, you are maybe wasting a slot there. If its a sensor dampener you are talking about, it only works on one ship at a time - so back to the point above, NPCs tend to outnumber you badly in missions, shutting down one of them wont change much and is therefore a waste of a precious slot and power grid and they suck your cap too, which you will be needing. And sensor dampeners basically just reduce the other guy's range - NPCs in level one pretty much all engage you at very close range anyway.
I would always fit an armor plate in one of my lows, and an armor repairer in another. If you insist on using railguns, 125s instead of 150s will give you near the same range and free up some power grid if you dont have enough. And their tracking is actually better, you need to pay attention to tracking and not just look for the biggest gun you can find that has the most raw damage.
If you want a longer range setup, why not fit the Tristan with missiles and rail guns? Longer range for a beginner in a frig means like 15 km anyway.
Or, if your skills are ready, a Catalyst is the way to really do long range.

Edited by: Stregoica on 21/12/2006 15:32:09 Thanks for the advice, i'm not set on long range so much as I am staying alive. I'll check out the gear you mentioned.
And what kind of drone, I dont know much about them. (I have trained some though)

The blaster setup posted will work fine I think, you just have to make sure you dont bite off more than you can chew. I think the key is more about careful aggroing, rather than a setup issue. The Catalyst is your best bet for range, and it does it well as I recall.

As for what kind of drone:
1. Any drone is better than none.
2. You can only use a light drone in this ship, each model does a different type of damage and the "best" is the one that lays the most pain on the type of NPC you are usually fighting. Hobgoblin and warrior are two very nice choices, or if you know what your usual enemy is weakest in, look for which type does that damage.
3. But any drone will be nice to have.

Blasters basically don't work in deadspace PvE as you get surrounded by a dense blob of NPCs and die. For the Incursus, I'd suggest 3x125mm railguns, afterburner, a damage mod in the low slot, then some sort of shield tank in the medium slots. If you can squeeze a medium shield extender on then that works, otherwise a booster and a cap recharger (not a cap power relay!). You can't really armour tank it with two low slots. A speed mod in a low slot (overdrive, inertial stab., nanofiber) is also a good idea, enabling you to "speed tank".

In reply to the sensor damp: don't use them against NPCs. While they're good in PvP, NPCs have essentially infinite lock range and speed, so a damp does nothing to them.
