I can't find anything on all the feedback we provided on this. I guess it's good but I was expecting more.

I wouldn't expect this to be the last iteration by any means. It seems more like they were trying to iron out the details (I can imagine the arguments over the several dozen different skills and levels) and wanted to get it out ASAP instead of waiting 7 more weeks. |

Explain what kind of number you were looking for and why exactly that number, and why/how that would somehow be a good thing to do. Unless of course this is just a "doesn't matter what they came up with I'll just ask for more, just because". |

yes that is it, nothing more for new players ever! in fact starting next patch new players won't even be able to train skills, the patch after that concord will automatically attack new players, and two or three after that one (can't always be sure with these things) new players will randomly start exploding and losing all SP upon death.

There is a lot more that CCP can do for the NPE and was interested in if they or someone else knew of their plans for addictional changes. Giving away more skill points isn't they way I would have gone but I can see why they did it. The discussion around attributes and changes to tutorials, etc are what I'm interested in. This just seemed out of left field without an explanation of their plan, which I was hoping to see given their interest in the subject in February.
This is a pretty key part to the health of a game we all enjoy.

Maybe they can turn it into a "teach the newbie some things" minigame. Like, if you try to allocate the skillpoints to Energy Systems Management, a pop-up window appears with "Wow that is a great choice, that skill helps a lot in PVP!", and if you try to allocate the points to Sentry Drones, the window could say "Not a good choice for a brand new pilot, as you may not have access to the ships that can use Sentry Drones for a while." |

They should hide this opportunity crap in an achievement window that nobody knows how to get to and make career agents automatic.

I guess if the 400K SP is all in relevant stuff like CPU/PG Management, Weapon Upgrades, Cap Management, etc, that will save a week of training that can now be used on skills that increase your damage or tank, which is a good thing. I really wouldn't object if new players started with a million, TBH.
I think the current NPE is God-awful. Worse than the previous incarnation, hands down. Does the NPE even direct players to career agents any more? |

Patch notes seem to indicate it will be 350k points to assign as needed. Still have to buy the skillbooks, but if the newbie wants industry he/she can put the points in industry, and if PVP then PVP. Maybe I'm wrong. |

It's a big advantage newbies get now over former times, skills at level 4 to start with is borderline IMO. People crying for more will never be satisfied until they start with 200mio SP ... It would be better IMO to guide newbies in getting these skills as fast as possible while giving some narrative / tutorial. Just handing them out is a missed learning opportunity.
My proposal, guide newbies to reach that skilltree (learning how to skill, choosing skills), then handing out 300k extra SP after the trial as an incentive to subscription.

It's not.
It's a selection of skills which cover most of what a newbie would run into and 'need to train' before they can do things.
Like the skills which you need to train, before you can do the next mission. Which always sucked a bit.

I wouldn't expect further changes any time soon.
NPE changes are going to happen for one of two reasons:
- A well formed argument is made as to why the change is objectively better than the current system, without incurring undue LOE or adverse side effects.
- Retention numbers are up.
This changes is an example of the first one. The new skill assignments all but eliminate the wait for fitting that people see in the first few hours/days of their time playing EVE. No more waiting for 30 minutes to train Industry I for that career agent, or putting together a fit you saw on the EVE Uni site, only to find out you don't have the right pre-reqs for a shield extender.
If you can provide an argument for further changes, feel free.
The second will be something we find out about in six months. In theory, there will be a December staff meeting during which CCP Quant will stand before the assembled department heads and explain how, since Vanguard launched, player trial conversions, 30 day and 60 day retention is all up by X%. Exit interviews show "FU Skill-queue online!" has dropped as a reason for players unsubbing by Y%.
Assuming that happens, expect further experimentation with the NPE, and skills as a whole. |

I always thought it would be nice if the career agents could hand out pre-trained skills, or maybe free sp (although would probably need to restrict that some how) not sure if that would be a headache with the code though. Although with the route they went that doesn't seem to be relevant anymore.

The tutorial teaches them about the skills and then you get instant training on those specific skills. I'm sure it's pain to code thougu so that's s why they went with the new skill tree.

I welcome this buff for new players, its awsome and what they needed, i would however wish they expanded this into:
When you reach certain skillpoint goals, you can use "skill remap from some skills", basically refund a portion of skills and reasign them, since we all know how we were training hard to miss something, after a player gets better at the game they figure they trained wrong, it would be awsome to give them the opportunity to respec some of the skill points, for instance:
10mil sp - refund up to 1mil from skills and able to respec them into elsewhere
20mil sp - refund up to 2mil from skills and able to respec them into elsewhere
They can choose which skills they wish to refund into skillpoints for respecing. |

Back in my day, a new character was birthed into EVE: Online with a bucket of nails, a shoe for a hammer, and was told to build a white picket fence around their lawn in 7 days. We didn't get the wood for the fence nor the white paint. If we didn't finish the fence in three days, we had the shoe taken away from us and we had to hammer in the nails with our bare fists and e-honoUr.
You kids these days have it easy. HTFU.
