I have an Amarr alt who is doing missions to raise her standings with Amarr Empire. I was just checking her standings and discovered that she is -2.47 to Royal Amarr Institute (RIN).
1. How is that possible since I have only been doing missions for Emperor Family? I don't recall ever doing a mission that required me to kill npcs from RIN let alone enough to drop my standings so low. 2. Are there game mechanics that somehow pit corps within the same faction against each other? 3. I am also wondering if the low standings with this corp will have a negative effect on my overall standings with Amarr Empire.
Thanks :)

I think Sansha<->Guristas have a derived relationship and True Power is Sansha.

I never ran pirate missions, and normally ship kills and ordinary operations result in pirate faction losses. My guess is that in some storyline there is an NPC that drops corp standing. the other thing I can think of is maybe it comes from killing faction spawns, or maybe belt rats?
Example: Guristas pirates I'm -10 to and have many standing log transactions. Guristas (the corp) I have one transaction with and am -3.85. the one transaction is very minor.
the standing hit was from 7:53, so the corresponding bounty hit would have been: 2015-07-17 08:02Bounty Prizes22,000.00804,475,492.43Chainsaw PlanktonCONCORDChainsaw Plankton12383:1,11027:1,11028:1,
from http://eve-files.com/chribba/typeid.txt looks like they are:
2383 Guristas Invader 11027 Guristas Infiltrator 11028 Guristas Saboteur
so my best guess has shifted to belt ratting. I almost never belt rat, and I briefly was out in guristas nullsec to rat my sec up a few times. Might also include rare faction spawns in missions?

I took a look at my combat log and I did indeed kill a member of the corp in question. I podded him as well. He was sitting at a gate and was flagged as a criminal so yeah, i killed him.
I guess I should read the fine print. I thought killing criminals and suspects was not punishable. Been playing this game since 2006 and still learn something almost every day.
Thanks for the replies everyone. |

Well, considering the fact that Royal Amarr Institute has Career Agents makes me think you might have started some missions when you first started playing this game and then never completed them.
There's no game mechanic that pits your character against another corp within the same faction.
As long as you continue to gain standing with Emperor Family, the negative standing with Royal Amarr Institute won't affect your Faction standing with Amarr Empire.

Destroying a ship that's flagged as criminal shouldn't incur negative standing with the corp. However destroying his pod might have incurred the negative corp standing.

Podding a member gets you a huge standing hit with npc corporations. Even if they're flagged criminal.

THIS. Destroying their ship gives no negative standing impact. Killing their pod, will. |
