I installed the optional patch when I went to connect today, even though I wasn't suffering from CTD's, and at first I noticed that starting eve (from launch to char pick screen) that it logged in a LOT quicker. The load bar thing that grabs the machonet stuff went by in just a flash, and everything else just seems quicker.
Now I also know there are fewer players due to the holidays, but this patch did fix quite a bit - I checked the processes and eve isn't sucking ram any more, and it's not consuming huge amounts of cpu when it's idle either.
It's entirely possible the patch didn't fix problems for everyone, but for me, this seems to have fixed problems I didn't even know I had :)
PS: Santa, if you're reading this, Snowball MMV BPO would be a nice gift for xmas :D

wtf was the point of switching from pngs to jpgs or "high quality" bmps anyways? I never had problems with the png output and I take a lot of screenies.

Better compression perhaps for EVE's servers? - ZATZAi |

The compression is done entirely client side. The only reason I could think of is perhaps that it causes less client lag when you take screenshots in jpg format. However, I see no reason to use an uncompressed bmp picture when png's are quite good as well, unless you really need that uber 10mb picture of eve ;P

Even if you want ultra high quality screenshots, PNG pictures are as good as BMP ones. PNG's compression is lossless, meaning the PNG image is identical to the BMP one when uncompressed. Think of it as putting the BMP image in a zip file.

Ah right, forgot that png's were lossless - I was just thinking about all the alpha blending it supported and was thinking that wasn't req'd for eve since it'd never get used, however I'm thinking that perhaps bmp export might be "easier" since it could be a native DX function call or something which might be why they changed to offer that choice.
