What if you could randomly apply your locks, modules and drones to any enemy within range? This could allow for evenly spreading ewar and DPS as an alternative to focus firing.
Obviously there's very good reasons for focused attacks, but it's also very straightforward to do. An FC calls out a target and then everybody locks him up and starts shooting. Trying to spread rather than focus attacks, however, is more challenging and therefore less often done. The way most of our overviews are set up doesn't really lend itself to true randomness in target selection, especially with large numbers of foes, so an FC can't expect his fleet members to carry out such an order effectively.
It wouldn't always or even usually be the best idea but as an option it would surely add some new tactics to fleet battles. It seems to me that ewar modules be the main beneficiary, since in a large enough fleet you could potentially expect to land an ewar module on each enemy. Could also make battles look more "cinematic" in the right circumstances.
You could also have an option for semi-random automatic targeting where the modules go after what they think is the most appropriate. So your light drones will chase a random frigate (if possible) while your guns will target a size-equivalent ship. You could set a limit on how many auto-locks your ship is allowed to make in order to save some for yourself. |

It can be usefull for E-WAR but for anything DPS, no matter how you slice it, focusing target will always be more effective. |

How much do you not want to give us the ability to sensor damn an entire fleet down to nothing without really having to co-ordinate anything? |

-1 to this particular form of automation.
A good FC with a skilled/prepared fleet does things like
Quote: Celestises get in a chat channel together, sort overview by type, arrow down, and 1st Celestis damps first 4 Guardians on Overview, 2nd Celestis damp second 4 Guardians on overview... etc
and
Quote:Guys spread points, pick a target who's name starts with a similar letter to yours and point it!
This is good planning and a form of player skill.
Unrelated addendum: On the other hand, things like mashing the D-scan button as fast as possible is NOT any form of player skill, and should be replaced by a new and better way to see what's out in space around us.
The UI update we deserve
