Hello, I have just started to play eve about 2 months ago, started off going mining, changed to scanning afterwards, the decided to go stealth bombers and destroy other scanning ships after dying few times to a bomber, the realised that bomber it self isn't what I like the most, so I have ended up going for drake and the raven to do lvl4 missions. Problem I have is that everywhere I look people are surprised to see raven going for pvp, although I like missions I like some pvp too. After seeing so many negativity on caldari pvp forums I'm worried that I will end up wasting my time with caldari only to learn pve, which in long term, is only to keep the isk coming so I can spend it on pvp ships. I love shield tanking and would love to stay with caldari in pvp, and in battleships after I learn the ropes of pvp in smaller ships like frigs or my manticore. Can you tell if going caldari and spending time on training can give me any success in pvp? Of course I have asked in game few times about it and all I hear is that condor is great ship. Is there any other 'great' ship in caldari for pvp than condor? |

Caldari is fine for PvP, the problem seems mostly to be that battleships in general are a litle bit specialized. They do well in fleet PvP or station games but lacks the mobility to reall do well in the majority of solo PvP.
Caldari does have some decent PvP ships, Moa, Caracal, Hawk, Tengu, etc. basically sub BS kind of stuff but thats mostly true for all races these days. |

Thanks for speedy response. So basically bships is not something I want to go for for solo pvp.. Can you tell.me.then, if I'm flying drake would I have any chances vs battleship like raven or so? Or like in every other game there are counters and easy kills in eve.

Or like in every other game there are counters and easy kills in eve. It'd be rare to find a solo raven just flying around in LS. I mean people might do it every now and then for luls, fully expecting it to die, or alternatively as bait. In fact, from what I understand it's pretty rare to find anything solo outside of FW. Even then they usually have links and maybe friends waiting for you to get tackled in a plex. There's station games like I mentioned but that particular gameplay doesn't really make sense to me. Someone else would need to explain the draw behind it. Then theres the different fits and various ships countering each other and other things that come into play like player skill, links, implants, overheat, etc. My advice would be to find a PvP corp if thats what you're into and join some roams and stuff.

Depends heavily, but usually no.
Caldari, while totally balanced in general, isnt that great for a new beginner to pvp. Their frigate lineup isnt that good nor is their t3d something to write hime about. However the caracal is great and their t2 and pirate options are very strong. i would suggest roaming around in a rlml caracal to start with. |

kestrel and merlin are awesome pvp frigs
cormorant has its role as a dessie sniper can be fit for short er range too i guess
corax is pretty crap imo
carcal is death for frigs
moa is pretty decent
i cba to list them all but ye lots of caldari ships deinitely viable for pvp.
the other day i killed a proteus with guardian support on sisi using a rhml golem. was awesome
dude swore that he could tank my marauder "forever" with proteus + guardian support,
didnt look like forever as he popped.
hes lucky he made us go to sisi. kinda sucks tho. would have looked nice on my kb

For solo pvp in my opinion
Best t1 Frigate: Tristan Best t1 Destroyer: Algos Best t1 Cruiser: was Caracal soon to be Vexor Best t1 Battlecruiser: Myrmiddon Best t1 Battleship: Armageddon
Best Navy Frigate: Slicer for kiting or Comet for brawling/scram kiting Best Navy Cruiser: Vexor Navy Issue by a mile Best Navy Battlecruiser: none. If I had to pick one it would probably be Hull tanked Brutix or Navy Harbinger because of scorch and nice tracking Best Navy Battleship: Phoon Fleet issue soon to be none
Best Pirate Frig: Garmur Best Pirate Cruiser: Orthurus Best pirate Battleship: Machariel or Rattlesnake
Best Assault Frig: Hawk soon to be Harpy Best T3Destroyer: Svipul Best HAC: Cerberus soon to be Ishtar Best Interceptor: Taranis
There's a new missile disruption module coming out which is going to be a big blow to solo missile pvp, especially since the best missile boats are good at engaging gangs of smaller ships so it's more likely one of them will carry a missile disruptor. Nearly all of the above ships have one thing in common: weapons are cap independant, this is important for solo because neuts are quite common and unless you have a cap booster they will shut you down. So overall I don't think Caldari are the right choice for solo anymore, you're much better going with neuts and drones.
For battlships RHML is good for pvp today and just about any of the t1 missile battleships will work well solo because you have a wide engagement profile and xlasb provides a solid local tank, but with these new missile diruptors coming out I think solo in missile ships is in major trouble, especially RHML battleships which are really special when it comes to engaging gangs of smaller ships but now they can be shut down by one dude with a missile disruptor.
Caldari have a few decent offerings left: the assault frigates are good, also the t1 frigates. Condors and kestrels will probably not be badly affected by the missile changes, and if anything condors are one of the best placed ships to abuse them. The merlin is also a solid t1 frigate when you learn how to use it. The moa is slow, big sig, and has tracking issues so I wouldn't recommend it but if you do fit lighter guns for solo, the Caldari Navy Cruisers are utter garbage. Honestly though overall Gallente are clearly the master race, and the balance team are determined to keep buffing them and nerfing anything that gets close so we might as well all train them.

TBH I wouldn't overly worry about the whole missile disruption thing.
Tracking Disruptors have been around for ages and yeah they can mess with guns there are ways to minimise their effectiveness. And lets face it if you are going up against a gang solo and they all have disruptors then you are **** out of luck regardless.
Disruptors have been brought in to counter the guidance enhancers/computers. As with everything in eve there is fit and counter-fit. I reckon there will be a glut of missile disruptors used at first but then missile ship use will drop a bit then it will level out again and missile disruptors will become a 'trick'in a fit similar to TD are now.
Caldari are fine for pvp at all lvl's (maybe not big null pvp stuff but who cares about them! ) Fly what you like not what other tell you to!

I would recommend you to join 0.0 pvp corp and learn with them how to pvp. For small / medium scale fleets caldary are ok. We use cormorants a lot, exellent ship, our enemies use Moas, some corps use Drakes / Ferroxes / Caracals / Cerbs .
For solo PvP Caldary (i am not saying about perfectly skilled Tengu with 1 bil+ fits) aren't that amazing, because you need to use med slots for propulsion, web, scramble and you don't have much slots left for tank. |

Thanks for all the info..
So my plan is to go bombers & frigs and learn some pvp - i go FW only, dont want to join any corp just yet. Then possibly caracal / drake pvp if i wont like frigs - and Raven pve.
For now..;p
Thanks for all the info.
One more question, whats the big deal about missiles being good for pve, someone told me its because i can choose dmg type, i just got to know that I can change dmg type on all other guns too.. so why are missiles good on pve? |

Most of the other weapon systems deal mixed damage (ie. Hybrids doing kin+thermal or lasers doing thermal+EM). Missiles allow you to target a specific weakness in an NPC's resist profile and pump full damage into it.
In addition, missile systems have access to Auto-targeting ammo, which means you can keep firing even if you get jammed by NPCs since they don't require a lock on to fire. I've heard that some missions can be pretty much AFKd with those if you fit properly (I'm not about to waste time on Auto-Targeting V to test that though)

Echoing what was said above, caldari are great boats, but limited in ewar heavily because of being shield tankers.
That said, there are some awesome ships there. I have a love for the Onyx heavy interdiction cruiser. It has a massive shield tank, and if you fit it right with a focused script, 50km point range from a high slot, as well as decent dps. With RLML fit I get 250 dps with a tank that battleships can't break. Or with sacrificing some tank, can get 400+ out of HAMs. Skill intensive to train, but they will flat murder frig/destroyer gangs.
See you on the killboards. |

I noticed "Onyx heavy interdiction cruiser"
I've been skill queue training for this ship, since i love cruiser size ships & missiles. This thing looks so sexy / stats also Cruiser size ships ,seem to be the Swiss Army knife of EVE online "hugs my Gila & Tengu" , i hope i like Onyx as much as i like my other two ships.
P.S...
If you didn't mind, could you link your Onyx fitting for me please?
EVEBoard ...Just over 26million skill points, each skill was chosen for a reason. I closed my eyes & clicked another skill to train... "BINGO...!!!" ... "This time i got something usefull"

Onyx Highs 5x RLML II WDFG II
Mids Pith X-type EM hardener Invul II 3x Republic fleet Large Shield extenders Either mwd or Pith X-type explosive hardener
Lows DC II 3x PDU II
Rigs 2x CDFE II
Dps is the same fit usually, except the mwd is a must, and I swap out the PDUs for Flux coils and/or BCS IIs, and maybe the RLMLs for HAMs.
Lots of fun, but its got kinda a fat ass, and slow lock time. Even so, I've tested the tank before, and it can permatank any solo boat, and it took a carrier 2 minutes to break it. Now to get an A-type invul on there... |

If you're looking to PvP in a Caldari ship max or your cruiser and light missile skills and go with a RML Caracal fit.. Their cheap and very effective especially in small gangs..
Ferox fleets are getting popular now since they got a nice buff recently.. Drakes too..
Later if you can afford it you can train into Hacs and get in a Cerbrus.. . Just remember don't fly what you're not willing to lose... |
