First off, hi.
Right then, I've noticed alot of people using probes to locate alot of people hidden in missions and other non-warpable places, now this doesn't really have a counter (Aside from a cloak), so why not a version of the current scan probes but with an entirely new function of interfering (Not entirely jamming) with the probes.
For example:
'Fog' long range disruption probe:
This probe would interfer with every probe's scan, but would acutely affect other long range probe's (So either the deviation would increase or the chance of finding the anti-prober would decrease) and to counter it, you'd either need to launch two long range probes at two different locations OR use a shorter range/more accurate probe.
'Mire' Super-short range disruption probe:
Would be the shortest range disruption probe, being the most powerful (but also the most obvious) one of the lot. I won't give stats on such an item, but to counter it you'd probably need two short range probes, BUT as a gift to probers everywhere, the intense jamming area (maybe around 1000km?) would appear on long-medium range scan probes, so while it'll be a pain to find the guy inside the area, you've still reduced the time to narrow it down.
Anyway, that's my idea, what you guys think?

This is a pretty cool idea which I think the devs should give some thought to.

Or the use of some kind of destortion generating ECM, otherwise you would go though a lot of probs to provide coverage while doing a missions. I don't know how long probs last. Could also be used to set up an ambush like a cryo feild

Well, on the surface it seems like quite a nice idea. But the problem is that if you're on a mission, you're not going to want to waste a high slot on a probe launcher.
This system would probably end up getting used by fleet commanders, in order to hide the location of their fleet at a safe spot.
It would take far too much effort for any one mission runner to be bothered with it.

I would go for a med slot Probe Jammer.
Drawbacks can be discussed; but off the bat I'm thinking about something along the lines of an ECM module that, while active, would jam probe readouts.
Alternatively, you could allow the hacking skill to allow breaking through interference to pinpoint the source of the interference and warp to it.
The quality of the module, and the hacking skill of the scanee would give them a short 'heads up' window to pack up and leave before the scanner acquires a signal lock.
This method would do 3 things.
1.) Give a practical use for the hacking skill 2.) Allow a counter to probes 3.) Make the determining factor skill-based

Its risk vs. reward, is it worth me losing a high slot if it saves my ass?

Too much risk vs little reward is why hardly anyone plays in low sec.

This already exists, in the form of ECCM. Raising your sensor strength makes you harder to probe. ---
