Edited by: Tribunal on 28/12/2006 21:55:47 This set-up is tailored for HIGH SP users. This is not a set-up for the mid to low end user.
Energy Management V is required!
HIGH SLOTS
6 x dual 250mm rail guns (tech 2)
250mm are not better to use then dual 250mm on a Dominix. People have been using the smaller 250s because they make fitting the ship an easier task.
NOS is just plain wasteful for a high end Dominix. NOS is a crutch for those with low skills to keep their cap alive. NOS does not cause a drastic change in an NPCs tank as some might claim, dual 250mm kill much, much faster.
Drone Link Augmentor is not needed if you have a "certain" skill trained. If you're at this stage of the game you should know what I'm talking about.
MID SLOTS
4 x Eutectric I Capacitor Charge Array
With this setup tech 2 capacitor rechargers are not needed, and yes four cap rechargers is a must.
1 x Shadow Serpentis Tracking Computer
Tracking computer is a must for knocking off cruisers that orbit the Dominix, plus it will help greatly with killing off most small ships before they ever get near the Dominix.
Shadow serpentis tracking computer can be found for a moderate price and provides 5% more tracking then the tech 2 version.
LOW SLOTS:
1 x Core X-type Large Armor Repairer (or greater)
If you have the skills to run this setup then paying a large sum for a good armor repairer should not be that big of a deal. yes, you do need a nice armor repairer or this set-up will fail some missions.
1 x 1600mm Reinforced Rolled Tungsten
There are some missions that will slowly break this tank, but with a 1600 plate you would have to afk for a good long while to see it happen.
3-4 x Active Armor Hardners tech 2
Use four active hardners for the missions that don't only have EM and thermal NPCs. For the NPCs that just do EM and thermal use three.
1-2 Shadow Serpentis Magnetic Field Stabilizer
They each give 2.5% more DPS then the tech 2 version and they will not break your bank.
Rig Slots:
2 x Capacitor Control Unit 1 x Auxiliary Nano Pump
Conclusion:
For less then a billion isk you will have a ship that can easily do 700DPS with tech 1 ammo and tank every mission that the game currently offers. The best part is everything can run nonstop without ever breaking your cap. This means that this ship can do full DPS and run the full tank without ever having to worry about cap.

What rigs would you advise in this set up. At 100k-200k a unit the avg. rig costs 20-40mil. From the prices of these other parts a righ should be valid cost at 50mil is need be.

Quote: Rig Slots:
2 x Capacitor Control Unit 1 x Auxiliary Nano Pump
The Capacitor Control units are a must. I would advise an auxiliary nano pump just in case something goes horribly wrong.
For the record, I would not buy the Capacitor Control Units nor the Melted Capacitor Consoles that are required in the making of them. You can spend a day or two in a low sec (0.2 and lower) Blood area and gather the required items.

My setup is similar but a little different and i have had alot of sucess (focus placed a little more on drones and repairing as opposed to +max armor and guns)
Highs
5x 350 railgun (might require advanced weapon upgrades 5 like i have) 1x drone control unit (must if you use sentry drones)
Mids 2x Omnidirectional Tracking link (20% more range and tracking for all drones) 2x Decent named cap recharger (for 2 mill you can get one nearly as good as the 20mill tech 2 versions (18 mill is not worth 2 extra %) 1x Large cap booster with 800 charges (very rarely do you need to use these)
Lows 1x LARMII 1x MARMII 4x Active hardners 1x Cap Power relay
Reasoning is that my drone skills are impecable and no matter how many guns i cram on there I end up doing about the same damage with Omni directional tracking links in the mids as opposed to mag field stabs in the lows and i can tank a whole lot better aswell.
why do i have a MARII instead of a plate? It lets me fit some bigger guns and in most cases i am perfectly fine simply running the medium tech 2 constantly while activating the large for one cycle every few minutes (Vengence is the exception).
With this setup i'm able to tank 6 angel cartel (yeah, the ones that do explosive, thermal, and kinetic and they are a ***** to tank) battleships and 12 cruisers with alot of frigates (I just ignore them since they alwayse hit for 2-3 at the most) without using my LARM II but maybe once, I'm able to tank vengance for over 30 minutes running both while using a cap charge every now and then (helps that I run missions from a station that sells the 800 charges, if not this may not be an option for you).
Make sure you take sentry drones of the needed damage type, they dont have to fly out 70km to hit targets and if you realy want to they can pop all the frigates and cruisers by themselves before they get to you while you work on hitting a battleship. Mine are able to hit as close as 7km because of the omnidirectional links.
This setup realy hinges on wether or not you want to bother dealing with cap charges, they make the best setups so long as you dont mind making sure you have them.
I use a seperate ship to loot/salvage with so cargo space is not an issue, I just cram it full of cap charges after i take the ammo i need.
Any thoughts about improvements?
As for rigs i dont use them yet but I intend to add 1x Rep amt 1x rep speed 1x Cap amt.

Edited by: Tribunal on 28/12/2006 22:36:09 I must be missing something as with: 5x 350 protypes, 1 x Large armor repairer tech 2, and 1 x medium armor repairer tech 2, you would be left with 152PG and 475CPU. This does not leave enough room to fit a large cap booster.
This was with advanced weapon upgrades 5.
350mm also have horrible tracking. If anything smaller then a BS starts to orbit this setup then you would be forced to use your drones to kill it.

Why don't you just use t2 rechargers because the rest of the tanking gear also is very high in cost, to be fair have everything of the reasonable top line. if you have 100mil rigs then a t2 recharger should be ok, they are still around 20mil right?

I sometimes use a long range fitted Dom ( mission in high sec )
LOW 1 LAR 1 med AR 4 Hardner 1 Damage Control
Most of this is not nessessary but for safety
MID 4 Cap recharger II 1 Drone ...
High as much 350th I can fit 1 Drone link aug ( or 2 )
I have a normal Drone range of 57 km so I reach out to 77 or 97 km.
Thats a nice range for my wardens and the 350th
At that distance most Enemys are dead before they can attack me.

Highs 2x heavy nos 1x drone control augment 3x 250mm rails (for aggroing mostly)
Mids 5xcaprecharge (F-b10 is minimum i guess)
low 1xLAR 1xMAR 3xHardener (mission specific ofcourse) 1xCap relay 1x1600mm plate
Everything runs 23/7, tanks very very well. Aggro with guns, kill with drones (you can support with your guns ofcourse)

Tech 2 cap rechargers are not needed to to sustain everything being ran on my set-up non-stop, so the only reason you would be putting them on a the Dominix is just to have another costy mod.
The two cap rigs were not 100m isk a piece, they were one days worth of effort. There is zero reason to pay the inflated market prices when the items can be collected with a little effort.

Just a few questions: -Would T2 cap rechargers in this set up free up a rig spot. -Have you ever thought of twin EAMN II, that would boost the passive resist to all dmg types by 47.25%, and if I am right that wouldmake them better then a plate in over all HP boost but also your get more total HP back per rep. -Can we get a price Check on these items

This is my Domi setup that I have found great success with. I have been able to tank most missions (pirate slaughter angels version is the only one that's given me any trouble so far)
Highs:
2 Large Smartbombs (for clearing frigs and the like) 1 250mm rail for aggro 1 tractor beam for picking up random loot on the first pass 2 drone range extenders
Mids:
1 AB II 4 Cap Recharger II
Lows:
1 Core X Type Large (1120 base every 11.25 seconds) 1 Centum A-Type Med. (468 base every 9 seconds) 4 Hardeners Tech 2 1 Cap. power relay
Rigs: Auxiliary Nano Pump I x 2 and a Capacitor Control Unit
You can sub out the AB for another recharger and add a plate if you feel like you need the extra padding or don't need an afterburner for anything. You can do whatever with the high slots obviously. I don't bother shooting at much because compared to my drone damage it is rather difficult to be bothered with.
This is obviously an expensive setup but with the right skills you can run this tank nonstop and your cap will stay at around 35%. These days I mostly just aggro a room and then pick out targets for my drones to consume.
Enjoy.

Cant, i meant the +_20km control range. Its invaluable for using sentry drones (not for heavys since they take too long to fly that far)
