why not make it official then I say.
What is there to stop this patch becoming official?
Because whatever it is, thats the bit I dont like about semi-official patches. ---------------- There are no bugs just locked threads |

Edited by: Jarjar on 28/11/2003 15:31:45 Official? It is official, you should use it. The only reason you don't HAVE to is, well... You don't have to.

i used it and rolled back to 1236 as it gives me unplayable lag at gates jumps and station docks/undocks. ----------------------- ╔╤╗╒╕╔╕║║/ ║│║╘╛║╘╝║\ ----------------------- |

Official patches would Auto-Patch.
If it is an official patch and not "Optional" then why doesn't it?
It does create an odd feeling that it's not quite right but if you'd like to try it out it's available. If it screws anything up "you" made the decision to load it and therefore not CCP's responsiblity. "Happy testing" sounds like the appropriate phrase.

There are some things broken in 1253 that were fine in 1238 for a minority of people. Playing Eve in windowed mode is one of those (I am one of the minority here). I think once they resolve that issue, then they will make that client-sdie patch required. That or they are going to wait for the serverside patch to up the bar for client-side patch.

Upgrading directx to the lastest version solved the windowed mode problem for me....

Just make the thing official if it is so great, trying to get patch testing done like this is a pretty poor show.
It absolves them of responsibility if things go wrong and gain credit when things go right.

Gee. What if there's one player who has a problem with it, when it's perfect for the rest? A) We'll force everyone to use it and force the other guy to stop playing B) We'll make it optional
Well? A or B? (There's no difference for the rest you know)

Well the reason for this is quite obvious. Afaik the patch only deals with client-side problems so it¦s not required to play EvE. Because of this, CCP is giving people the opportunity to install the patch, which is always better than forcing people to use a patch that might screw up their client.
I think it¦s much better to have an alternative you can roll back to if the new patch doesn¦t work for you. It¦s pretty much the same with graphic card drivers. If the new detonator doesn¦t work for you, you always have the opportunity to use one of the older ones. This is good, CCP made the right decision with this patch.

So you dont mind patched games cannot lock down secures within 5km of each other or a roid but pre-patch gamers can.
Wait till the pirate attack and your giants are floating free in space and you cannot anchor them.
The whole idea is people play the same code.
If there were players that could anchor cans in places others could not, would there be cries of exploit in the ordinary scheme of things?
I wonder what other differences there are between the 2 games being played at the moment.
Another poster seems to think it is fine to make patches for individual players, well good, here is my request.
I'd like the patch in its present form but still enabling me to park cans where I like, and if you could get around to it, fix the cap bug as well.
Call it OldWinterPatch1.0a so I know which one to download please.
We are forced to download other patches to keep people playing the same game, if this patch is good enough to be unleashed and bragged about on the news channel within the game, why not force us all to use it? ---------------- There are no bugs just locked threads |

I am using the optional patch and so far its much better, only found one new bug and filed a report. They should always do this from now on release silent patches to test by the real users. No matter how hard they test internally it will never be as good as us testing it.

Defintly agrees with Pojo!
Allowing us to try new bug patches out allows better testing of the new patch to iron out any bugs that cannot be replicated on chaos, those that dont want to, dont have to then!

I rave on the best feature of all---the fact they made it optional.
Every major autoupdate patch has a gazillion people whining and threatening to quit the game when it breaks their installation. This provides a much more cautious and incremental approach.
However at some point, the user base will have to be standardized on a single level, in particular when tech 2 arrives.

Ah well, I see now.
If only they had said, please beta test our new patch for us, in the first place, I would have understood why they did not want to make it a forced download. ---------------- There are no bugs just locked threads |
