it would be very kewl if we could deploy mines..and have a ship that does such a thing,,like a recon..it would be great for gate campers and home defence, and make them so they are not discriminate of who they damage,,basically, you fly threw the mines that have been laid out you get hit weather they are yours or not.and they don't show up on overview, only on a d-scan,and have a ship like a mine sweaper that would run ahead of your fleet cleaning them out,,,or have them so you can hit them with smart bombing ships |

Old idea. In fact, it was once a thing in the game.
The problems?
- back in the day, if a mine went off you would incur any mechanical penalties based on the system you are in (not where the mine was located). So if you dropped a mine in low-sec and went into high-sec and the mine hurt anyone... CONCORD would blow you up. This issue may not exist with the Crimewatch mechanics (which came about after mines were "removed" from the game)... but I would bet hard money that there would be similar problems (because **CCP**)
- you know how this is an MMO? Anything you can mechanically do, everyone can mechanically do. If you can drop 5 mines at a specific location... so can 50 people. That's 250 mines in a specific area. The LAG man... the LAAAAAAAG.
- it's lazy gameplay. Drop a few warp disruption bubbles, fill it up with mines, fly off to a safe distance, and then watch people blow up as soon as they are dragged out of warp. Honestly... if you want someone dead you should be putting your (or an ally's) ship in the line of fire.
- If you make them too weak (either by setting a minimum distance the mines can be from each other or reducing their damage), they will kill nothing and be fairly useless. If you make them too strong, everyone will spam them (because why wouldn't you spam something that allows you to blow up things without much effort?).
How did you Veterans start?

I think a reintroduction of mines is a poor idea because it seems like it would give a lot of reward for very little risk. Prep a minefield, deploy a bubbles, profit. |

Uh...yeah that is the reason why minefields are used in real life to protect an area from attackers where a small defense force is located.
A mine field once laid would be 50 km 50 km and 20km deep. When a ship warping to a location from underneath of the location and encounters the mine field at 20km the mines would be activated knocking the ship out of warp as well as damaging the ship due to the mines sensors being activated by the presence of the warping ship.
A warp bubble could not be deployed within 250km of the field due to the EM Field of the Warp Bubble effecting the sensors of the mines causing them to detonate. The same would hold true for other structures such as starbases and gates that generate large EM fields.
If mines would be used in low sector Concord still wouldn't be able to do anything about it as a the gate into high sector would keep the mine layer from accessing high sector.
If mines are used on neutrals then an instant - 10 sec status is given the pilot who laid the mine field.
Security Status would not be affected due to War Decs.
Don't like it. Then stay out of the war zone.

When mines were actually viable as weapons, it was insane. Hundreds of mines littering stations, warp in spots, gates, you name it. They were so super cheap to build and deploy. The carnage was insane.
With that being said, I do think there needs to be some new mechanic for usage. |

High slot, battleship sized mod in line with probe launcher but named mine launcher. One cruiser sized ship specialized for mine deployment. Ship can deploy a maximum number of mines equal to its ability to deployable drone. Let us give mines a bandwidth of 1 but a volume equal to a scout drone. If deploying ship goes off grid, cloaks, leaves system, or goes offline the mines just like lost drones that must be reconnected to and can be scooped.
Mines have a massive resistance to the type of damage they do just like bombs and just like bombs do area of effect damage that does not differentiate between friend and foe. Mines can not be used in highsecurity space.
... searching for possible ways to game the system as described....

Ok this mechanic is in the game. I'mma help you out. What you need: Gallente Cruiser 3 (5 is preferable) Drones Skills Anchoring something (drop bubbles, bigger bubble = better, duh!)
What to do Get a Vexor, Vexor Navy issue, Gaurdian Vexor, or Ishtar. (Alternative: Carrier, Armageddon, Dominix, Rattlesnake) Drop Garde II's 10km away from the bubble Fit your ship with long range, fast locking mid slots and Drone Range Exteners in the highs Lock ships in the bubble Press F AFK
Done. That' is more or less what mines are, except these ones are much better. Advantages - Not one shot only - Not instant killing - Limited Spamability - Already in the game
Disadvantages - Require you to stay on grid (secretely advantage from a "gameplay" perspective)

Mines are lazy, offer zero counter play and requires zero engagement from either party. From a design and gameplay perspective they embody some of the worst aspects of bad design.
This suggestion is bad and you should feel bad.
