This is excerpted from the PVE roundtable discussion at the EVE Vegas Fanfest as reported in the topic posted in this forum about the upcoming PVE changes in EVE.
CCP Affinity promised that the storyline of the Drifters and their origin is ongoing, even saying that there are things in the universe right now that players havenGÇÖt found. Specifically, that there are Landmarks that have not been discovered. These Landmarks will appear after players have been somewhere for long enough, though she was intentionally vague as to what any of it meant. What was not vague, though, was her desire to get players to explore New Eden. The rewards, and the consequences, could be huge.
Looks like EVE PVE players have been slacking! Let's get out there and find these Landmarks!

Let me just balance that by adding, that none of us PvP players have found the landmarks either. We've been equally slacking I guess.

If CCP want players to explore and spend time places, they need to make mechanics that encourage spending time places. Instead especially the PvE players are typically punished for staying places, normally by the PvP players of course, but also by the lack of general systems and rewards that encourage sitting in one spot.
EVE instead encourages running content as fast as possible and then going onto the next piece of content, and punishes you for doing low profit things most of the time (PvP for gratification is high profit as you are aiming for the fun currency when you PvP)
So, possible ways to reward staying in a spot. Ability to scan LCO's. At this point there is a reason for players to interact with the scenery, rather than ignore it because in 99% of PvE situations the LCO's are even utterly invulnerable, half the rest of the time they have crazy EHP levels then drop nothing or T1 ammo on killing, and only a tiny tiny fraction actually reward you for killing them.
TLDR version. More exploration systems, slowly scan LCO's for rewards, then players will spend time places that aren't immediately rewarding. |

At one time in the past the very implication of such a thing would have had me into a wormhole, exploring, right now even.
But I'm wearing too many RL hats, it's all skill que for me, and worse, I have to move this week so everything's broken down and boxed and next week I'm on a business trip.

I hope Uriel Paradisi Anteovneucci is working on it. He loves this sort of stuff and is so good finding it and reporting it to the community. It's great that the game has this sort of content. If you regard that as an attack on PvPers, you really really have a victim complex. |

I'm actually quite excited at the prospect of there still things to be found within New Eden which may (or may not), lead us into storylines such as player built 'gates etc.
I agree with the posters above that there needs to be a mechanic which encourages the exploration of New Eden specifically geared to finding these discoveries.
Perhaps as one enters a system, there is a random chance of a beacon which is something akin to the current Blood Raider Harvest sites (although they should be much, much harder, perhaps even dynamic or guarded by CCP pilots ;) ). These would provide not only pve opportunities, but maybe also hacking, scanning and other activities which need to be carried out in order to access a locked gate which leads further into a 'dungeon' type setup with many , many rooms (perhaps something uber-epic).
These beacons would be very rare and have an equal chance of spawning in hi, low and null...
There would have to be pvp of course, maybe pvp'ers could camp these places waiting for the band of explorers (as one should not be able to fit all the required fittings on one ship for all the activities required to be carried out). Although, one can, say, hack the hackable, reship, kill the npc's, reship, fight campers, reship, set up the PI, reship etc etc etc, so as to include the 'solo' pilots, although risking someone else coming and completing the rest of the required activities...struggling to include pvp'ers except in camping these places so help out :)
Just spitballing and trying to include as many different pilots in this exploration idea as possible, and trying to think of a way to make it interesting, challenging, engaging and appropriate to the lore.
But in any case, I agree that there needs to be something to indicate we are getting somewhere , rather than waiting for a chance pilot to find something that he/she/lgbt may not recognise as significant and reprocess it... |

In my opinion, exploration of this scale, which may lead to game-changing discoveries should not simply be 'waiting for long enough' in a place. It should require interaction, problem solving, a feeling of actual trepedation, much as the explorers of old must have had. This is missing and there is no real incentive to just wait in systems until a discovery is or isn't made...
Interesting thoughts. There are quite a few members of my own corp who spend days drifting through low and null, scanning systems thoroughly, taking their time in the process. (Sadly, I am currently not one of these players, due to lack of IRL time .( ) These landmarks must be hidden really well and/or have problem-solving already built in, is all I can say! |

They should totally turn it into an ARG!
For those that don't know what an ARG is, it stands for 'alternate reality game'. Basically, players have to solve difficult puzzles like sound-encoded images, ciphers, riddles, and a bunch of crazy stuff that keeps leading them from clue to clue until they solve the puzzle. Maybe what could happen is like you can only get the citadel BPOs from secret spots in drifter wormholes, and only those which can find them can get the BPOs.
There was a really cool iteration of an ARG where players in a game called Payday, over the course of an entire month, solved puzzles and riddles and eventually found a totally secret part of the map with awesome rewards and stuff. It's just your standard fps but if I think it'd have been awesome (I didn't know about the game at the time).

Not being specifically a "PvP" or "PvE" player on any of my toons, I can say that the idea that one type player holds more value than another is ludicrous and ignores one of the very core aspects of EvE itself.

It says if people are somewhere long enough, lots of things possible for options and probably the pve and roleplay community probably investigated. Thing is most of it was looked at. As such, not sure what they are refering to. If need to be somewhere for a duration of time, that is saying watch stuff for no reason other than metagame til something happens. Where are the clues or reasons? If there is a trigger without basis, they will stay undiscovered.
