Which is better for level 3 missions, Brutix or Ferox?

I'd say neither, probably Drake is the best and the Myrmidon close 2nd.

Not enough information given to really give you an answer.
I assume you have more skills in gunnery. The Brutix hits harder than the Ferox typically with guns. If you have more in missiles, then Ferox because it has a real good passive tank and can use missiles.
However, do you have more skills in armor tanking or shield tanking? If armor, then Brutix. If shield, then Ferox.
Then, who are your usual opponents? Ferox with missiles is nice because you can vary your damage easily. If you spend lots of time hunting rats with high kinetic/thermal resistances, then Ferox because of missiles and varying damage.
And then... if you have more missile skills, the Drake is a superb mission runner. If you have lots of drone skills, then Myrmidon with your tanking skills determining (shield vs. armor respectively).

I can only afford the tier 1 BC. I did have a drake, but it got popped.
I have more skills in gunnery and shields, but missiles and armour are not far off.
I'll be fighting mainly guristas (kin/therm)

BC are slightly overpowered for L3 missions. All of the BC.
Unless you do stupid things you should have learned flying smaller ships in lower
level missions.

Drake with 3 invurns, 3 t1 named large shield extenders, 2 shield power relays, 1 bcu, 1 pdu and 7 launchers can pretty much afk tank all lvl3's. You could use FOF's to truely afk lvl3's :)

If you have decent skills in gunnery and shield you can as well consider using a cyclone.
It's cheap, has 8 high slots (5 guns + 3 launch) so you can fit weaps for frigs AND cruisers, decent shield tank, some decent drone hold, a good cargo hold (unless you use a diff ship to loot/salv your missions).
Plus it's minnie so you can fit all your gun damages to the mission.

I can't afford a drake 
The cyclone looks good, but I don't have any minmatar skills. Dunno how long it would take to train frigate and cruiser skills up.

Cyclone is good, seems to match with your gunnery/shields. Matar Frig 4 would be your biggest skill to get to it, and if you lack projectiles you'll want medium proj 3-4.
It is an excellent mission runner, setup properly. Not an AFK machine by any standards though :)

i used to solo lvl 3s in a cyclone i believe the setup was med shield booster II+ hardeners/boost amp and 3x PDU II low and you should be able to run the booster forever and afk tank any lvl 3.
