It's a moving target! The profitability of a potential trade is always changing as more traders become aware of the item and want a slice of the pie. So no matter what level of trader you are, looking for items is kind of a perpetual cycle.
That said, to be more useful we'd need to know what your starting capital is, what region are you primarily interested in, and are you doing station-trading or regional? Hauling yourself or contracting out? You could also seed a station (in null sec, low sec or even high sec) that you think will be profitable later, or do market manipulation to try to mess with an item's prices (most effective when you have enough capital to cover the supply).
There are traders who look for any price discrepancies between regions and move items to meet demand. Traders who move things out of Jita and into slower-volume, higher-priced markets (could be a smaller trade hub or all the way out to null sec). And traders who buy things on the cheap and ship them back to Jita or another hub to resell (high volume, lower margins). I operate as the latter type, contracting out all of my high sec hauling, and typically running much of my low-sec and null-sec myself (those are the more fun runs anyway).
Some traders like minerals and ammo because they're high volume. Some like blueprints. Others like ships. I personally work mostly with drones, ship fittings, skins and implants. I like these items because they're easy to transport and fairly easy to sell. |

Give me 500m ISK and I will show you how you, too, can make 500m ISK per positive and successful character interaction.

Here's something that is always profitable to get you started.
Post buy orders for popular tech 2 equipment and when they fill, just sell them via sell orders.
You can find much better options than this but you WILL make ISK doing that.
