Well, I have played WoW for 2 years and finally got sick of it last month. WoW was a good introduction to MMORPGs, but its really quite easy, and I am looking for something more complex. So I have done some reading and I think my next game is either going to be this (EVE), or Vanguard Saga of Heroes. I mainly played PvE in WoW, but in EVE I think I am more looking forward to the PvP aspects. I particularly like the idea of corporations & alliances being at war for territory in the game universe, and all the politics involved. Sure, in WoW there was always battlegrounds and city raids, but in EVE, these battles actually seem to have real consequences. So, just wondering, who else has come to EVE from originally playing WoW?

I came over from WOW. I mostly played PvE (99%) so EVE was a big change for me. Im still in empire, but as my skill points go up im starting to look out into lowsec / 0.0

Most of the WoW players we have join for a try out here usually end up quitting for some stupid reason or another, they don't like the levelling system (they cannot power level) or they got shot in space and didn't realise you are nopt safe anywhere in eve except inside stations.
All I will say is just keep an open mind and ask questions, Eve players like to help when they are treated as equals and not whined at... Lets see if my sig can survive this round of *****ing
There will be no survivors now that i'm around - Xorus

Hi,
I came from Earth & Beyond, had a break into WOW, got to a level 47, logged of one day and never been back.
Eve is great for taking breaks and the skilol system has far greater merits than people realise.
FREE expansions are a major lure as well...
have fun and say hi if you fly past

I like that fact that I can get skills without having to play alot. Sometimes work makes play impossible. I guess that kind of scares away the hordes of children who dont work and can grind a game all day. Also like the fact that for the most part the community is comprised of adults (although some of us dont act like it )
I don't have a problem with authority... ...as long as it doesn't get in my way. |

I used to play in EvE beta but didn't start the retail for some odd reason (regret that now).
Then i did start to play wow as Ionass on the Eu server Silvermoon but decided i needed something else and went for an evetrial and played that on the side, fell more and more towards eve and here i am today, no wow account, and hardly any playtime on eve due to real life issues :P It's me :=) |

I played WoW since the EU release, and i played it till summer 2006. I found WoW boring, as I'm sick of the leveling system. All games have it, and all games are like in the middle ages -.-
so one of my oldest online friends made me come to eve. Tried it in 2003 or sometbhing, but didnt like it back then as i had no friends here, but now me <3

I played WoW for a few months as my first MMO, had 2 lv60's, doing raids but was bored to death with eventually. Then a friend of mine gave me one of those 14-day trial keys for EVE. on my 2nd day here i joined a corp and went to 0.0 space in my frigate and never looked back.

Edited by: Xipe Totec on 06/01/2007 16:48:24 Welcome to a grown-up game.
I myself came over to eve from "earth and beyond" when that folded (i played e&b since beta). Then i played eve for over a year but didnt "get it". So i took a 6 month break in SWG, wich I still regret. I went back to eve and i got totally hooked the 2nd time. So hang in there and let it grow on you...
I hope you like it here .... I do!

I played WoW since release. Took up Eve summer of 2005 as just to try something different out and I was really itching for a scifi MMO. I liked it alot, but really didn't have any friends that played it, so I drifted away from it.
I came back a year later, I was bored. I wanted a game to play and I hadn't logged into WoW for 2 months. The idea of doing that actually got repulsive to me.
Eve is great for me. If I don't have alot of time to play, I can set a long skill and come back when I do have time, and something will be accomplished, my character will have advanced in a meaningful way. (currently its Gallente Cruiser 5). I'm still looking for a corp, would love to get into 0.0 and maybe even some pvp. But I'm having a great time building my character and amassing a bit of isk. Eventually I'll strike out into 0.0 and just see if I can find a niche in some corp/alliance, if I don't get an invite before then that is.

WoW pretty much has all the things I hated about EQ. Thats why I love Eve so much... it as all the things I loved about Ultima Online. No leveling, open pvp, etc.

I came over from WoW just a few months ago. Got bored, don't regret making the decision. Trying to find my niche in PVP still, but eh, enjoying the ride. ;)

Edited by: SonOTassadar on 06/01/2007 20:11:49 I guess you could say I migrated from WoW. I played Eve back in beta and thought it had a lot of potential. I also didn't have any money and was too young to have a job back when it went live. I really enjoyed both PvE and PvP in games -- I wanted to do both, and the PvP in WoW was short and had no excitement to it, but I did play the game for a year and was in one of those top raiding guilds on my server. I remembered what it was like getting killed in Eve beta, and I came back. \o/ ----- Griffin -- 100,000 ISK ECM - Multispectral Jammer Is -- 20,000 ISK Standar Missile Launcher Is -- 10,000 ISK War target sobbing over losing a fight in his T2 fitted Battleship -- priceless |

I never tried WoW but I did come over from DAOC which has some similarities.
I still say DAOC has the best overall PvP but as a community and "uniqueness factor," it doesn't hold a candle to EvE. I was still playing DAOC when I tried the free trial of EvE and after a week, I canceled my two DAOC accts and played this full time. Haven't regretted that decision yet. DAOC is a dying game which will likely end or at least become even more irrelevant once Warhammer Online comes out.

I think this image speaks for itself, at least in my case.
Got to level fifty three in World of Warcraft but couldn't go on any more. I just couldn't take the grinding and all I had to look forward to is rerolling and doing it all over again on another character or raiding. ___________________

Listen to the people in BETA.. you do NOT want to play vanguard, its a big let down. If for some reason you decieded this game wasnt for you you should cheak out Age of Conan, looks great, but i think you'll prolly be here for along time :)
Oh and yes my last mmorpg before this one was WoW.

i have 5 years old ultima online acco which i sometimes activate from time to time, its just so good game and there is nothing like it out there
anyways i have played wow since beta and few months ago i sold my acco on ebay, just got sick of it eventually, you cant get anywhere unless you grind and lots :(
friend at work told about eve and i tried the trial, and it was awesome! now im running lvl 4missions and from time to time i rat in 0.0 space im sure that i will play eve lots more than i played wow, mostly because of the skill system and many other things!

Edited by: Zinzal on 07/01/2007 00:28:31 I've played WOW and still do after nearly 2 years. Its PvP is terrible though (I got to a very high PvP rank and it was always cookie cutter build beats not cookie cutter build and 90% of WOW players still can't PvP with any skill even if they are veterans's) The Devs have no concept of balance and never listen to the player base, who whine most of the time anyway. Many players are also rude and stupid, but its not hard to avoid them once you know how.Its also far too easy and there's absolutely no risk. I stay there as Im in a great guild and I still like raiding.
I also like EVE buts its totally diferent. I love the complexity of the PvP. In fact the EvE PvP has made me realise how much time I wasted on the WOW system, the social aspect is very deep and there's REAL EBIL PIRATES. Im still nowhere near properly understanding much of the game. I love the risk. I also love the dificully of doing anything which, for me, makes it more satisfying and rewarding. I also like the fact that most poeple who should be playing Pacman won't get it and last a day or two at most. The main thing I like is that you can be anything and there's no classes. You can be a healer, tank, rogue and every conceivable Hybrid just by switching ships or equipment. Did I mention the ebil pirates?
Too much text I know but to those Anti-wow players I suspect you will only see the whiners that have come over. There' many of us here that love EVE but don't have a particular reason to advertise our presence.

I played wow for 2weeks. My entire SWG guild left for it, but I couldn't get into it. (well I couldn't get over the fact thatI would have to start over, going from best server crafter to BS ) When the NGE hit, I threw a temper tantrumer and came over to eve.

I played EVE first, then after losing all my money in a single day, I gave WoW a try. Played that for a few months, got to 60 and was with a good raiding guild, but it wasn't as fun for me anymore. I think that's because I was looking for something I could really integrate myself into, where I felt like I was an integral part of the game experience and I could actually make a name for myself. You can't really do that in WoW as well as you can in EVE. ___________

Yeah, wow refugee here. Well... a year or so ago. Got to level 40-something as a priest and just couldn't be bothered to grind any more.
I suggest you try out eve, and let Vanguard bake a little more. I've started the Beta, and while it seems nice and pretty, it leans more towards WoW than Eve.
Eve has history, politics, consequences, betrayals, sacrifice and is about 10x as complex and deep as WoW. It's not for everyone, but if it's for you, you'll know and be glad you tried it. |

Edited by: Acidyll on 07/01/2007 01:46:10 I didn't renew my wow subscription about 2 weeks ago, and it looks now that I simply won't play it anymore at all.
End game is so boring right now, there is nothing interesting to do but raiding and for that you NEED 30-40 people who know what to do and have the equip to survive it, even if I have all saturday to play for a change, there's nothing to be done since "raiding" starts at 7pm.
Sure there's the upcoming expansion, but what's that gonna do besides giving small content to level to 70 and then end up in the same boring endgame that it is now??
So goodbye wow, welcome eve. I'm still trial but I'll definetly be paying for another month (and probably more). I'm having great fun playing around in empire space (reminds me alot of privateer 2, which I played ...... alot :) ), and since the real fun apparantly is in 0.0 space, it can only get better.
