Holy SHAT. I've completed both the original and expansion pack, and Im currently unable to sleep, and refusing to open my door or curtains until sunrise. Omg. That little girl, when she comes out of the morgue...the whole game terrifies me. What was the scariest moment for you, if you've played it?
I'd say:
Original: When you're in the office and the girl comes skittering out of a cubicle as a phone rings, when you get on the ladder to slide down and she appears followed by Paxton, the last time you hallucinate and she switches between 8 year old and 15 then comes skittering at you...gah!
Extraction Point: Holiday and Jin Sun-Kwon's deaths, omg. When you climb a ladder and Alma slaps you off it...Alma's mind, or when she sits up in the morgue and you must then go through her mind which is like a psychiatric (sp?) ward, where various characters are trapped and blood is everywhere and omfg. SCARY AS HELL. Oh, and when you open the doors and it says 'MATERNITY WARD' I shat a brick, followed by the nurse moment. The only other one was in the Church right as you exit alma appears and sets it all on fire.
In general, when you fight those stealth attack guys, it scares me, and everytime you see UNKNOWN ORIGIN I get creeped out.
If you've not played F.E.A.R you need to. In general, i found the original scary, and the expansion absolutely horrifying. The expansion is 29837420934X scarier!

mmmm not played the expansion pack but some of the more memorable parts of the original:
Her scuttling down the air vent towards you.
The bit where you enter the room and that dude's been liquefied, look up on the balcony and guess who's there.
The bit in the lift.
The security camera feed, that one actually made me go "AHHH" and wheel violently backwards in my desk chair
grown up Alma, all of her, yikes that's not human its pure evil [shudder]

I love the part when you enter the vault and you catch the first glimpse of Alma's resting capsule and it's surrounded by a distorting field (prob for her telepath abilities) and when you see it again, the field is gone. That's just.. epic
When you find out that you're the first prototype, that's pretty cool.
When you use the laptop that has Harlan Wade's recording about Alma.
When you are in Alma's dreams and you see the 8 year old Alma behind a door liquify one of the dcotors.
Hell, most scenes are pretty memorable. FEAR was just great, it had an unoriginal storyline (human research and stuff), but they twisted it a bit and made it original. Really loved every bit of it except for the stealth replica soldiers, those things scare the ******* **** outta me!
I haven't played the expansion yet, but one part of the game I didn't get is when Harlan is opening Alma's chamber, he mentions that Alma died 6 days after they shut down Origin. So what exactly comes out of the chamber.. her spirit/telepath equivalent? -

I'd have to say the part when you're crawling down the air vent, and then there's the blast of steam or whatever and she starts crawling towards you. And the ladder part you mentioned was pretty scary

Yeah, extraction point just proves that the developers have new tricks up their sleeves. The ladder scares were excellent, only to be outshadowed by the moving walls in EP, especially the one in the warehouse. The game is impossible for me to play for lengths of time in the dark, alone at night. I just get too tense.
It brings me memories of the good ol' System Shock 2 days.
The screen pranks (here's the flash original) apparently are now found in Resistance: Fall of Man.
FEAR + expansion are highly recommended to anyone who's thinking about playing it.

Even without the shocks the combat alone was good fun. Slow motion mode worked well with the game and the enemy AI was fairly decent.

Edited by: Araxmas on 10/01/2007 16:11:08 What the heck are you all going on about? Fear is not scary, its a bit mind warping but not scary, heck I find nova prospect on hl2 scarier than fear. The graphics were poor, AI was non-existant but the grenades are purdy.
..than again when I was playing it there was about 5 of us in the room eating chinese and talking aloud yet even if I was on my own I doubt I would be scared of it, yet there was one bit which did kinda make me jump and that is the bit right near the beginning where the room has a blood ceiling and that skeleton zombie thing jumps out at you. --------

FEAR isn't scary. I've watched too many Japanese horrors, so it seems kinda weak in comparison, like they were trying too hard to make it the same. It just became predictable.
Great gameplay though. Had some really great AI in places (much better than that crap-fest HL2, but I was so hyped when it was first released though...). ___

F.E.A.R. is a great game.
Me and a m8 got stoned one weekend and played it through, by the end we were going "You have a go" "No, you do it" "No I dont want to look at the screen"
And then we turned the monitor around for about an hour to sort ourselves out.
And Oh the fun of the Crispy Gun _______________________________________________ Sig removed as inappropriate- Tirg Story of my life that one :( Views expressed ARE the views of my corp and alliance, not my own. |
