How would you equip a rifter to beat a rocket firing kestrel? We are abotu to engage in a 1v1 t1 frig tourney.
best i can come up with so far:
3x 125mm Scout AC's 1 small dim Nos
ArcJet Thrusters Cap recharger 1 free slot
200mm Tungsten palte EANM Named SAR
Use speed to keep the rocket damage down, orbit at about 5km & use soem funky ammo to hopefully tear the kestrel apart, Nos keep sthe tank alive, MWD will run 'perma'...
But i'm not convinced it's gonan work.
Any Thoughts ?

Kestrel is a frig killing machine
Figure out what range his rockets go to, then kite him at about 7k with barrage. Your damage will be utter crap, but if he doesn't have his support skills trained then he's not getting you.
If he DOES have them trained, MWD back out, switch to hail, approach and land at about 2k, web him, and tear him apart.
3 x 150mm 2 1 x arbalest rocket
1 x catalyzed cold-gas 1 x langour drive disruptor 1 x phased muon damp
1 x 400mm rolled tungsten 1 x MAPC 1 x N-type magnetic
If you don't have t2 auto's, use EMP and skip to the MWD in - tear apart phase.

it's T1 only, or i'd be using T2 150's and trackgin computers + orbiting at 12km.
I think tactics, not brute force is going to win this bout.

Using speed to lower the rockets damage won't help, you need to go 4km/s just to cut the damage in half.
I think your only option are going to be to use artillery and stay out of his range. Max range on his rockets is going to be 10km.
Maybe something like this for setup: High: 3x 250mm artillery Mid: 1x 1mn mwd, 1x medium shield extender, 1x passive kinetic hardener Low: 2x micro auxillary powercore, 1x gyrostabilzer.
Named/t2 as skills and wallet allow you.

May be talking utter b****x here but as an idea from the left field.....How about fitting a long range Rifter?
Not sure if it would fit but...3 small arty's and a missile. Orbit him at about 20km. His rockets would be pretty useless. The problem would be tracking him but even if 1 in 3 shots are only hitting, you'll wear him down in the end? Guess tracking comp etc might help.
Wonder how a passive shield tank rifter would cope against him in a toe-to-toe??

Range 'could' work, but if he goes for Standard Light missiles rather than rockets... well, i'm ****** !
MWD, Med extender, Kin hardener, 3x 200mm ac's (2 with emp 1 with fusion) Rocket + a bunch of gyro's. go for pure gank. should kill him before he kills me.

Passive rifter..... i dunno about thatm, not having qfit to do things, but I would imagine:
hi: 3x 150/200 mm ACs, optional rocket depending on grid med: med extender II, web, passive kinetic hardener II low: 2 x sheild relays, gyroII or fitting mod.
if fitting is just too tight, drop to 125mm ACs.
long range is a posibility if he is DEFINATELY using rockets:
hi: 3 x 250mm arties med: AB, Web, target painter/trackign comp/sheild booster/wahtever low: 2 x gyro II, MAPC or fitting mod probably needed.
what ECM are you able to use? if you can se ECM then use a probe with:
hi: 2 x small nos med: 2 x racial ECM Low: 2 x SAR II
dont know if that will fit, and then use 2 scout drones to kill him.
if you are able to use another frig, go for an incursus, cant remeber the fitting either, but use blasters, a nos, AB and web, SAR and a kin hardener and whatever else. you also get 1 drone to use.
if i could do it, i would use a punisher with ACs and a dual rep tank. those things are pretty damn nasty.
ok, theres some ideas for you. kcik ass, i never liked the kessie, no fun to fly.

I'd say drop the 200's for 150's and use emp and fusion as you say. Toss up as to whether you go Kin hardener or small T2 extender....

/me remembers before he quit pre-kali he had 2 med extenders on a rifter, 2 SHR, 1 PDS, 1 S-recharger and a few guns on... im sure it could tank like a demon.

High: 4x standard launchers Mid: 1x 1mn ab, 1x med shield extender, 1x small shield booster Low: 2x mapc
Variation 1: switch shield booster for small extender, but my math using cap amount and fight time says the booster will the be better option.
Variation 2: switch ab for a small cap injector. You will have problems if you run into another kestrel with standard launchers and better missile range skills than you but other than that it's an I-Win setup.

use the booster / dampner combo to keep hisrange to elss than 20km, then fly through shooting, out of range to break his lock, then back in, rinse and repeat.....

But most tournaments disallow all electronic warfare mods expect webs so that's what I assume in my setup suggestions.
Edit: btw the kestrel setup above fits pure t1 (not even named), but do requires very good fitting skills, for the ab/med extender/small shield boost setup you need engineering 5, awu 4, shield upgrades 5 and a 3% shield upgrade pg usage implant. ---------------------------------------- A Guide to Scan Probing in Revelations |

Easy. Stay out of web range.
3x 250mm 1x Standard Launcher
1x MWD 1x Warp Disruptor 1x Target Painter
1x Intertial Stab 2x Nano
Don't bother duking it out with him up close. Just set your orbit to 11km, turn on the MWD and let loose. He won't be able to hit you and his piggy Kestrel will never be able to get close to your nimble Rifter.
If you run Depleted Uranium and Sabertooth missiles the Kestrel dies in 38 seconds if untanked.

I've often gone for a cap injector on frigs. I know, seems crazy, but if you use two small reps and a cap injector, you may be able to tank his damage long enough to kill him.

after seom extremely extensive testing last night, bearing in mind sell than perfect fitting skills and the 'no T2' rules, i've decided on a setup. It's a 'all coemrs' pvp frig tourney though, so specific 'vs kestrel' setups failed vs others.
we have: 3x 150mm Scout AC's 1 arby Rocket Cold-Gas Arcjet MWD x5 web electromech cap booster 400mm RT palte 'Vigor' MAPC Emergency Damage Control
it can't touch the above mentioned 4x missile Kestrel with the skilsl i have, but the dude flyingthe kes has 4x my sp, so i'm ok with getting him to 1/2 armour.

kestrel is a piggy when it comes to handling and speed. but the issue is that a high SP pilot with light missles will tend to reach out and touch you beyond small AC or Arty optimals.
