Kinda an extension to this - as someone who can only fly frigates, do you oldies often go back to these peasant ships for thrills? Or once you've moved up a class, do you stay there until the next set of training is complete?

Cruisers, Both tech I and Recon/HaC
Far more fun than battleships for belt pirating.

Cruisers for solo or in small groups, Battlecruisers for larger groups. I'm not too fond of Battleships due to their lack of manuverability.
T2 Frigs are good too :) --------------------------- I'm not a pirate. Yarr!

for killing noobs, i dont need anything bigger then a cruiser.
my question goes more to real pvp, when you meat a player that want to make pvp too.
i found out that at these days you cant go out without a BC or BS. 1on1 is allready hard to find and when you find someone, then they use most of the times myrmidon or drake. i cant kill those two ships in my thorax.

When pirating you generally meet lots of other pirates who want to make sweet love to you
HaC/Recon's aren't good for PvP since when...... ?
Whats real PvP then btw, Because if your not pirating you must mean 0.0, How often do you get a 1on1 there Blobs For your information PvP = Player Vs Player.

Cruisers offer lots of flexibility in choice.
Battlecruisers are good if you know your target and can kit it up right. A Drake has the missile limitation so if you got jammed - you have maybe 5 little drones or one big one and THEN WHAT?
Battleships are preferred by nasty snipers and are good in 0.0 fights if you cannot afford a T2 cruiser or don't have good skills. Frankly, Battleships become the meat shield.
Frigates are good if you are working in a group and need a cheap tackler.
Of course any T2 ship is better than a T1 ship if you can afford the loss and have the skills. A fleet of T2 most likely will eat a fleet of T1 for breakfast. I think the BoB vs ASCN war probably utilized this concept.
The most fun - and flexible is probably the Cruisers since there are so many and they are relatively easy to learn.

I prefer flying ceptors to anything else really. I've never really used a t1 frig for pvp though tbh.

If someone else is paying interceptors, AFs and stealth bombers are all great fun.
If I am paying Dominix, it gives the best amount of bangs per buck. Apoc is good too.
If you are in a HAC or a command ship you will just be called primary first, no fun there.
Really the cost of t2 ships needs to come down to make PvP more interesting. Or the devs need to come up with a way of allowing us PvPers to make big money.

The Blaster Megathron and its variations.
I am far from maxing this awesome ship's power, much more sp to burn, every skill I train is a step to the ultimate goal, to fly a Mega as well as any one.
And is not just SP, I practice drone micromanagement, cap control, and some other basic moves.
I watch videos; Farjun, Veto, and any blaster mega vid I can find. I pay special attention to the mistakes made by even the best thron pilots. 6 gun sindrome, repping to late or too soon, burning too many cap charges and not managing when cap booster reload occurs in relation to reppers cycle, etc...
I love that ship and when the sp is finally finished I am going to give more than one veteran pilot a rude awakening from hell
I guess I could just have said BS but thats no fun

I fly pretty much anything amarr but my ship of choice to bumm around in is the punisher. Nothing beats the thrill of killing cruisers and BC etc in a lil t2 fitted t1 frig

Well I have had no actual experience with them yet but I am training to use t2 frigates. After being owned in a Cormorant by a Crow I realized how amazing these ships were (as long as you can stay out of web range with Inties).
Training to use the Taranis atm, be able to fly it by months end. Within 2 days after that I'll be able to equip t2 rails and MWD, and a few other essential goodies. (Although I'll probably just screw around in an Atron for giggles until then.)
AFs are just so damn expensive.

t2 frigs of varying races or the thorax.
I got one of my gankraxes straight gaffled by an arazu just a little bit ago though and I'm thinking it might be viable to try that one out in the belts.

It has been cruiser (HAC/FR) for some time but I am now leaning towards the new battlecrusiers as they are fine ships to use since the weight buff.

have to say command ships are great fun. awesome tank and dmg and since kali they are reasonably agile and in small groups laugh at gate guns.

Exactly what i am doing now with Rupture/Vexor/Brutix and Taranis/Claw/Rifter. There is something about this search of improvement ... little by little you always have something that keeps you engaged in EVE. -----
