For PvP, a few people have told me kinetic usually aren't used - you want to load explosive missiles against gallante, EM against caldari, and thermal for everything else. However, playing around with quickfit I find my kinetic missile armor damage matches explosive armor damage, and does far superior damage against shields and structure. Is kinetic more heavily tanked against? That would seem odd seeing how armor is naturally most vulnerable to explosive damage, not kinetic. Should I generally load kinetic unless up against caldari (which EM is the obvious choice)? Or what do you do to figure what type of missiles to load?

mix the missile types. EM/kinetic works well and do carry the other missile types if you discover the target is tanked for kinetic. It's not a bad bonus to have but then again it isn't nice as launcher ROF.

Thing is that in PvP, 3 out of the 4 races have good t2 resistances vs kinetic (and thermal, even though most minmatar ships don't tank as good as the other races).
Seeing that most of the ships that you will encounter in PvP are armor tanked and in most cases they use the "omni-tank" (2x EANM, 1x DC) they have rather weak explosive resistance.
For Shield tankers, if the enemy is heavily tanked with hardeners, explosive doesn't fall too short of resistances with EM (since the shield tankers tend to use 1 EM resistance and 2 Inv fields hardeners) and minmatar that are one of the 2 main shield races has good EM resistances that are better than the 60% default explosive.
Personally, I use mainly explosive missiles with 2-3 launchers loaded with EM or Kinetic . _______

If you get a damage bonus to only kinetic missiles go for those, otherwise mix and match. __________________________________________ Yes it is great being amarr. |

Another example of PvE oriented ship design :(
Though to be fair, it's better than nothing at all. ------ ------

Actually a "racial trait" bonus.
The ships of other races that have missile bonuses have more or less the same bonuses applied.
You can see that primary on the damage done by the weapons of a race : Lasers - EM & thermal Proj - exp & kinetic mainly, but they can do all damage types (all of the ammo have explosive or kinetic though mixed in), t2 are only Expl/Kin Hybrids - Kinetic & Thermal, t2 versions of ammo have more thermal (t1 more kinetic) and then you "boost" them towards the "second weapon" (Drones for Gallente, Missiles for Caldari) _______

Yeah I know, but Amarr and Gallente have the slight advantage in that their guns do 2 damage types, I dunno anything about Minmatar but I have heard that being able to do all damage types isn't nearly as useful as it sounds for various reasons.
It's just that having only one dmg bonus is a bit poo, though we change damage types so easily, it's probs a balance thing. ------ ------
