Okay, let's say I've got a T2 BPC and it requires a RAM Tool causing 40% damage. I want to make 5 runs.
Do I need 2 RAM tools or 3?
i.e. can I use a RAM tool with 80% damage to start a manufacturing job and take the other 20% on a new RAM tool?
Many thanks,

I think you need 5 actually, 1 for each run. It will do what you said by taking a damaged one and moving to the next but you need 5 to start it.
I usually have a large stack to use so I'm not positive this is how it works but everytime I try to use just one for 10 runs it says I need more.
As a side note, RAMs have to be the stupidest thing ever. I fail to see what purpose they serve other than to make invention even more annoying to do. Maximze your Industry Potential! - Get EVE Isk per Hour!

Even more annoying is the fact that you used to be able to get by with just two. Then ccp decided this wasn't annoying enough and changed it so you need at least one for each run you do. PI Profit Calculator: calculates your profits and taxes of any PI product depending on how you built them! |

Make or buy 50-100 and just keep them in the array / station where you do your manufacturing. They're not expensive (about 30-35k each to make) and don't take up that much space (4 m3 each).
Then setup a stockpile list in an asset tracker (like jEVEAssets) and have it tell you when you're running low on a particular type of R.A.M.
You'll need 5 to start for a 5-run BPC, but it only damages them one at a time, so you'll end up with one damaged (or completely used up) while the rest stay brand new. |

can you repair them? i just treat them as another construction material and buy as much as many runs i need multiplied by the damage (0.2 if 20% etc) plus 10-20 just in case. |

Yes, you can repair them, and it's not that expensive to do so from what I recall.
I bought the BPOs a long time ago, now I just make a batch of 50/100/200 depending on how many I think I'll need over the next month and treat them as disposables. |

You need 5 rams to start the run. After it's finished, you get three undamaged rams back.
Makes sense? No. Welcome to EVE. |

Abdiel, just the answer I was looking for.
I do go down the 'stick a ton of them in the array and make more when running low' approach, but I'm trying to do sometihng programmatically at the moment and needed the algorythm. |
