Hi,
As you can tell im rather new here and ive got a few questions if anyone could help out.
I had played the game for a tiny bit loong time ago, a lot has changed since then and I dont remember much anyway.
I've joined a small corporation to start off and while they have been very helpful I still need some more info and dont want to bug them to death with stupid questions so here i am.
1. My corp mates told me about some cerebral boosters things(?) that i may have somewhere since this is a new account but I am unable to find it. Only items in my redeemable menu were a bunch of frigates.
I created a trial account and subbed for 3 months, does this give a cerebral booster thing? Or are only starter packs that give those ...?
2. I am interested in some PVP so I will be skilling up for that, however, Im having a hard time finding the essential skills needed for pvp (there are just so many skills in there!) and with my limited experience I will probably miss out on a few skills that are vital ...
Skill requirements for ships and modules I can find easily but stuff that affect my dps, capacitor, power grid and so on is where i have trouble with. Sure, skills that clearly state "increase damage output bla blabla" is easy but for example skills that affect DPS in an indirect way ...
Hope you understand what i mean.
Is there some basic skill plans out there to start with? Can you guys point me into the right direction?
3. Attributes. One thing I remember from back when I played eve are attributes and that they were a big deal back then. How should I distribute them? I understand that there are limited remaps now and i cant just change them at will.
I intend to start with researching some minmatar ships (ill start with the Rifter) and then go to guns and support skills ... is there an optimal way to assign each attribute point?
4. Are minmatar ships good for pvp? For starters i intend to fly some frigs like the Rifter but my eyes are set on a Dramiel (i think it looks awesome, not sure if its any good tho)
Thank you and I apologize for both my english, its not perfect and for my potentially stupid questions :) |

Not to dismiss you but you should definitely bug your Corp and alliance mates with silly questions, if they took you on they're likely prepared and willing to help you.
If memory serves I think our alliances have been at war ( a couple of times ) and I think I'm correct in saying they're actually fairly competent .
That said obviously I'll help however I can. 1) cerebral boosters can be found in the contracts window and are prohibitively expensive (imo)
If you were going to get one it would be in your redeemable items Que so probably not, I think they're for certain starter packs.
2) core skills I.e . Those found in engineering, navigation, drones, gunnery, missiles, shields and armour are the important ones for PvP. "weapon upgrades" will allow for easier fitting of guns, as will anything that alleviates fitting requirements for anything you want to fit (more fitting room = potentially better guns) Things like electronic upgrades also indirectly effective how effective you can be , again your alliance mates should have these skill books lying around so do ask which ones to go for first and if they have any (I have a small stock for exactly when this happens )
There's a great one tippia put together floating around somewhere I'm sure someone has a link to it.
3)Yeah they're still fairly important, personally thogh I wouldn't touch them till you have a skill plan together that you're happy to see through
4) yeah they're a solid choice, navigation skills will be particularly important for them, do however try out the other races and weapon/tanking systems though before you commit to a plan.
Early on I focussed Amarr and while I don't regret it by any means I found a deep seated lust for gallente brawler ships that I was missing out on.
Welcome aboard

A couple months ago CCP changed things so that starting characters now have 400K skill points instead of 50K, I would guess that they got rid of the cerebral accelerators with those changes. If you did get one it should be in the redeemable items UI which is at the bottom of the character selection screen. That is the screen after you log into the game but before you actually select your character to enter the game.
As far as skills there are a few newbie skill plans out there and a quick google search should help you find them.
CCP a few years back went through and reorganized and renamed skills to be more intuitive so it is easier now to keep make sense of it but yes I understand it can be a bit overwhelming at first. Some key points to keep in mind is that you will eventually train it all and this early on it will be difficult to train skills that you don't wind up using. So don't stress out about training the "wrong" skills.
Eve is much more about what you know than your skills points, much more so than other games. As you learn the game you will know what to train. So for now just train some basic skills that seem like they will help and as you play you will develop a playstyle and find out what you need. Just remember lower level skills train exponentially faster than higher level skills and each skill level adds the exact same amount so lower level skills typically are much more bang for the buck.
That being said you will need generic ship skills like capacitor, CPU, and propulsion / agility skills which are all grouped together nicely for you to sort through. I like to use the market UI with "show only available" turned off to get an idea of what is out there and what is available. Sort through the market and see what you have and what you don't and read descriptions. Getting familiar with those skills and what is available will help in learning this game.
As far as damage skills go they are somewhat race specific. I typically recommend that new players train all 4 races and their associated weapons skills up to level 3 and try them all then figure out what you use most and focus on that. However even within the specific weapons systems there are generic skills that apply to all.
As far as which race is good for PvP that really does not matter. Your knowledge of the game and the match-ups / counters matter so much more than any differences in base attributes like HP or DPS that having options is typically better than focusing on one race.
You asked about the Minmatar and they have shield tanking ships and armor tanking ships as well as ships that speed tank. They have gun based ships as well as ships with split damage systems ( combining guns and missiles for example ) and also missile based ships and use drones for damage as well. The other races are similar in having various weapon and tanking options so you can see you will need to eventually train it all.
Again I'd say don't stress about your skills and just play the game and train what ever looks good. You'll figure out what you need soon enough and you will be challenged to train ship skills that you don't wind up using. |

Hi and welcome!
Cerebral accelerators were part of certain packs you can get, I'm not certain if they're still available though. If it isn't in your redeeming window then you don't have them. Don't worry too much about it.
Here is a nice wiki on support skills that will be helpful for you. These will be universally useful for you. There are also gunnery supports, missile supports and drone supports.
I'd recommend holding off on remapping until you know what you're doing, as you're right they are limited by time. You'll be training support skills and ship/ gunnery skills that have contradicting attributes for the first little while. Someone might have come up with a good remap that takes this into account for new players (and checked the math against the default), but I'm not sure off the top of my head. Someone more knowledgeable might chime in.
Minmatar ships are good for PvP, depending on the ship. You'll end up cross training into other races to take advantage of their nice ships at some point, so don't get too focused on one race. Starting with T1 frigs is a great way to practice your skills with little ISK on the line.
Good luck out there and let us know if you have more questions.

2. Skills. This game has many skills, you will likely end up with 160+ different skills for combat pilot. Each skill gives 5% bonus here, 5% bonus there, and they add up. We have:
- Ship skills (under Spaceship Command) - these unlock new ships for you. Train what you want to fly.
- Weapon skills (Gunnery, Missiles, Drones) - train the weapons that your ships will use. Caldari Frigates, for example, use Small Hybrid Turrets (from Gunnery) and Rockets and Light Missiles (from Missiles).
- Support skills (Armor, Energy Management, Targeting, Shields, Navigation) - these make ALL your ships perform better. For beginner frigates you can train them to 2 squares, and as you progress or get bigger ships, train to 3, 4, or even 5. You want speed and agility, shield and armor resistances, you want power grid, CPU, and capacitor, hull upgrades, you want to be able to target more enemies, faster, from farther away, you want the ability to use rigs, you want the Thermodynamics skills so you can overheat modules, etc.
- Non-combat skills. Trading, industry, reprocessing materials, etc.; it's a game and you get a lot of junk and loot to sell and reprocess, so you can train some of these too.
Open the market interface in-game, and look at the skills. You don't have to buy them, just read the descriptions and click the i info button on whatever looks useful. Look at the "required for" tab, see what the skills are used for. The Market interface is also the game's index of gear - everything's listed.
3. Attributes - wait a year. Too many mish-mash of skills to train right now. After a year, when you get to the long skills, remap to match your long skills.
4. Each race has a few ships that are favorites for PVP. You gotta realize that there's a huge list of ships, and they all do different things. Minmatar is pretty good. People do train multiple race ships too. Or even "all of them."

I created a trial account and subbed for 3 months, does this give a cerebral booster thing? Or are only starter packs that give those ...? I won't comment too much about this because I am not too familiar with it.
That said... having or not having a Cerebral Accelerator won't make or break your start in EVE. It is more of a "nice to have" thing.
Hoshi Aakiwa wrote:2. I am interested in some PVP so I will be skilling up for that, however, Im having a hard time finding the essential skills needed for pvp (there are just so many skills in there!) and with my limited experience I will probably miss out on a few skills that are vital ...

Sure, skills that clearly state "increase damage output bla blabla" is easy but for example skills that affect DPS in an indirect way ... To start in PvP you only need 3 things and the skills to use them;
- a ship (preferably a frigate) - a Microwarpdrive - a warp scrambler/disruptor
With these things you can immediately be an asset to your group by performing the time-honored tradition of "tackling" (see: you find targets, prevent them from warping, and stay alive long enough for the rest of your group to dogpile your target). You will lose a lot of ships doing this (as I and many others did when we were nubbins)... but the main goals are to learn how to survive better each time and to absorb as much information as possible from your corp/fleet/teammates while you are doing this.
Watch, learn, do... mix and match these things and rinse and repeat.
Beyond this:
- Engineering skills tab: all skills in this tab will improve the abilities of any ship you fly. They will lift up fitting restrictions (which are probably finding way of working around right now) and improve your ships' endurance.
- Navigation skills tab: similar to the Engineering tab, but almost exclusively focuses on warping and using propulsion mods (Afterburners and Microwarpdrives).
- Preferred tanking style (Armor or Shields tab): choose one for now and expand to the next when you get most of the skills to level 3 or 4. This will help with your ability to survive.
- Preferred weapon style (Turrets or Missiles): choose skills in this tab with care. Aside from generic support skills (which is pretty much any skill that does not specify a weapon) the weapons you want to be training will be dependent on the ship you want to fly. If you like Minmatar, then ships focus on Projectile weapons or Missiles as Minnie ships focus in one or the other. Lasers or hybrids will only help you if you are flying ships belonging to other races. Eventually you will get around to training all weapons.
Hoshi Aakiwa wrote:3. Attributes. One thing I remember from back when I played eve are attributes and that they were a big deal back then. How should I distribute them? I understand that there are limited remaps now and i cant just change them at will. As a newbie you have 3 remaps (versus the once a year re-map that older players are limited to).
When I was a nubbin... I split my attributes between Perception and Intelligence as it gave me the most optimally flexible rate of training for a diverse set of skills. As your progress and begin to specialize (in a few months) choose between Perception and Willpower (enhances training times for ship and weapon skills) or Intelligence and Memory (enhances training times for Drones, Ewar, and some support skills).

I say this because there is no one ship that can do everything or is optimal for everything. Minmatar ships are no exception to this.
I personally like the Breecher because it is underestimated quite regularly in brawls. The Slasher is a very good cheapo tackle ship. The Rifter... euhhh... it is workable but some other racial ship lines are better.

Before you do any remapping I suggest that you look at skills that have charisma as a primary attribute. As a combat pilot there are not many that you will need and you won't need to train them all that high but you will be completely remapping out of them.
The main things you want to look at are skills related to jump clones If you think that you might do any missioning then there might be some social skills that you want to get up a little bit.
Fleet skills and PI skills also use charisma but it does not sound like you will be needing much of that. However if you think that you might want to give PI a try then get the PI skills that have charisma as a primary attribute up to 2 or 3 before you remap.
In EveMON you can create an empty skill plan and then filter the skills by attribute just to see what skills have what attributes at a glance. It makes it easier to quickly visualize what you will be gaining or loosing by remapping into a specific remap. You can also create skill plans and play around with various attribute maps to see which one will benefit the various plans and to what degree, down the the second, before committing to the remap on the live server. |

im sure your small corp is nice but i must recommend joining a big corp in a big alliance.
Small corps can be off-putting. They are barely active, and you usually end up playing solo. A large alliance will provide you with free ships to fly, and tons of help. Dont be scared of 00 ether, my alliance has tons of newbros that are like a week old, and they're welcomed and helped, and before you know it, they're titan jumping into a major battle and helping to gank capitals

The cerebral accelerators would only work on really young characters anyway.
Cybernetics is a skill which could help or hurt you a lot: At V, you can train for +5 implants, which are the very best ones for training. They are also very expensive, which means you have to be very careful with them if you can't just buy a new set. +1s usually run a little less than 1M apiece. +2s run about 2M +3s run about 8M +4s go about 20M +5s run around 100M
This is a really huge and complicated game, a lot of which simply can't be done solo. Making friends is a really important part of the game. So is learning what you can trust them with, because this game is designed to let people abuse trust.
Playing with the game and figuring out how stuff works is also a good thing. Google can tell you how to do things, but actually learning how to do them by looking at them and trial and error and reasoning and retrial is a skill of its own.

Here's something that no one has really mentioned:
Download EveMon Download Eve Fitting Tool (EFT)
They are third party software that make use of your api key, and can help you plan out your skill training and what skills you will need with the fits you want to fly.
As a first step, load up your api key in both software. Then in EFT, create a fit, or ask for one from your corpmates. Where possible, put the tech 2 modules in those ships. Then you can right click on any empty space within the fitting window in EFT, and one of the menu options will show all generic (support) skills that benefit that ship. Then, right click on the fitted modules themselves. They will show the skills that affect that module specifically.
Repeat the above for different fits / different ships.
Based on what you glean, you can create a skill training plan in EveMon. At this point of your piloting life, you probably don't want to take too many skills to level V, as the benefits proportional to time required drop substantially (e.g. training a skill to level 5 takes about the same as training the skill from scratch to 4, so the time spent could be used to bring other skills that give you more bang for your buck.
Some of the 'key' skills that you should take up to 5 as soon as is reasonably possible (read: being able to fit and fly the ships you're interested in, albeit at lower efficiency) include, but are not limited to:
Hull HP Armour HP (depends on your tanking style) Shield HP (depends on your tanking style) Capacitor recharge rate Capacitor amount Raw speed Racial weapon skills (to unlock t2 guns) Powergrid CPU
The above are not in any order, as your mileage may vary. Also, the names are inaccurate as it's been a while since I had to train them and CCP changed the name some time ago. Use EVEMon, it is your friend.
Hope this helps! o/

yeah i was already using stuff like that (EVE HQ). EveMon/EFT better than EVE HQ?
I chose EVE HQ because of the options it has, a lot of stuff you can do in it (most of which ive no idea what they are lol)
My current focus is getting ships to 4 (ive decided to train for all races frigates to start with), weapons to 4 and some essential support skills to 4. Its gonna take me a month or 2 tho (i think, it seems a lot of skills take a really long time to train) |

You should concentrate on just one race for the start. Get that to 4 and then train whatever skills you need for your daily activities, i.e. Weapons if you're going to fight or Scanning Stuff if you want to explore.
Otherwise you end up with the ability to fly all kinds of ships but cant make real use of any of them, which means that in some months you are still stuck at the beginner content while everything else is too hard.
Of course, feel free to train the other races later on! |

At the frigate level it's actually not that much time at all .

Yeah so the idea to train all frigs first was so i could experiment with all of them and their associated weapons.
Yes, it might take a while to train everything even to moderate levels (by moderate i mean lvl 4) but I guess its worth the wait.
Thank you all for your suggestions, helped me a lot :) |

Don't worry about level 4, Level 3 is usually good enough to decide if you like a ship or not. The main thing is the support skills, so train up shield and armor to 3 and see how you like it, then pick one to concentrate in for a while.
I'm not big on the fly everything concept myself. But the best time to experiment is early. Try all of the career agents, you get free ships, and an introduction to different income streams.
I just want to get a plex as fast as i can so i dont have to worry about resubbing, 15 dollars is Cat litter and Food for my cat, or 2 Grams of Weed, i'd rather spend it on that then on this game--Rogue Mime
