Count me too. Made the mistake of plotting a course to Poinen (sp?) to pick up a couple things from one of my loot stashes. MISTAKE!!! Came out of the gate and entered the 'reality distortion field' that is Jita. After ahwile decided to quite game and re-login. MISTAKE TWO! Look others I'm stuck at the the Character Logon. I click "enter game", and after awhile I'm dropped back to the Character logon screen.
This SUCKS!
Oppps, while I was typing, the Charcter Logon screen was up, and the game just crashed. If I lose my ship, I want it back! The cargo is FULL of loot contents I was moving. I give up, but here's a suggestion to CCP that might ease the problem:
I, for one refuse to KNOWNINGLY go to or near Jita, particularly when there are greater than 33,000 people logged on!!! I will only go there late at night (EST), when there's only like 14,000 or so people logged on.
So, CCP you need to aid us in avoiding Jita. The problem, for folks like myself, is that we are unaware of which gates/stations/ and systems are near Jita and/or under the lag influence of Jita.
Yes, it's easy to avoid Jita, but much less so the nearby systems etc.
SO, please provide us with an ALERT!!!! whenever a 'course' will take a player near or to Jita. Not only should there be an alert, but there s/b a double or triple acknowledgment by the player before the game will allow the destinated trip to begin. For example:
1) Set Destination to Jita or near Jita. 2) Click the big blue Autopilot button. 3) ALERTTTT!!!! Your plotted course will take you to or near Jita. 4) Do you want to go to Jita? Yes or No? 5) Are you sure you want to go to Jita? Yes or No? 6) Player clicks the appropriate Yes or No. TWICE! 7) Player proceeds to or toward Jita; or 8) Player chooses another Destination; or 9) Player is allowed to plot a course AROUND Jita's Lag (of course this is more complicated to code, but s/b done. For example:
A new choice for the Map Control (or whatever it's called), along with:
Along with choices for Shorter, Safer, etc., trips. Place a choice such as: "Avoid Jita".
"AVOID JITA".

I believe such an option would help to a good extent in alleviating the Jita issue, even though its not a cure.
Just like myself, I'm sure that a great number of people, particularly Newbs like myself, inadvertantly and/or mistakenly plot destination to or near Jita.
Additionally, the "AVOID JITA" option could be tied to the number of people logged on at a give moment.
Like for myself, I put the threshold at 15,000 logged on (or less). That is I set the option to allow me to go to Jita ONLY when there is less than 15,000 people logged on.
CCP, I think the above is a simple and workable manner that would serve to alleviate the Jita lag to an appreciable degree.
----
Another would be to create a GATEKEEPER code (you can storyline it however you wish). That is determine and the number of Users that the Jita node can handle efficiently, and limit the node to that number!!!
For example, lets say the number limit s/b 10,000 users. It would be relatively easy to code limit the number of users on the node (I imagine the present code is capable of this already).
Now, the problem, I forsee, would the the super long queues that would form of people waiting to get into or near Jita. People waiting extended periods of time, doing nothing but just waiting. This wouldn't be any more acceptable than the present situation. Solution?
Keys.
Players would *requests* a Key to Jita.
In my example, at any given time there would be only 10,000 keys (in actuality the number of keys could be governed by the number of people logged on. More people logged in equal fewer Keys. Few people logged on in more keys.)
1) A player wishes to go to Jita. 2) Player sends a message/docks into any station (whatever); and requests a *Key* to Jita. 3) Player is queued for a Key. 4) Player goes about his business. 5) Key becomes available and is assigned to Player. 6) Key will provide entry into Jita for an assigned period of time. Not sure how much time would be appropriate, but for example's sake lets say 20 minutes. Which would allow the player a few minutes to tie up whatever he might have been doing when he received the 'Jita Key'. 7) Now, here's an important point:
The Key can be used at ANY gate!
This way it won't matter where a player might be located when he receives the Jita Key.
8) Player takes Key, goes to nearest gate; applies Key, which automatically sets his Destination to Jita; and Whooosh, Gate transports player to Jita, from any gate in the Eve universe.
One key necessary component, as I've seen suggested by others in the forum, mining, ratting, missioning, and everything such s/b removed from Jita. Jita s/b reserved as a Marketplace and not much more than that.
I think this would work rather well.
Now, I can see a *market* developing for 'Jita Keys'. Players trading and selling Keys, Corps hording Keys, etc. This is why the time duration of the Key needs to be thought through carefully. In fact, the whole thing needs to be thought through carefully, BUT something needs to be done-----IMMEDIATELY!
Fixing Jita needs to be made the NO. 1 priority for CCP. THIS s/b the focus of immediate future software and hardware upgrades.
I'm a Newb whose a little perturbed. Told GF I'm not going shopping, so I could focus some Eve play, but I can't play!!!! Not good. ) :((

Same problem here. I have two missions to do in Jita and I can probably kiss the speed bonus good-bye.
For the devs: I played Asheron's Call for a long time and back when the game was popular they would have a problem with a town called Arwic. Arwic would get so full or people because it had almost all the shops one could want, and it was close by to numerous portals. Jita has those same problems. There are what, twelve or fourteen stations in Jita along with eight Stargates? People are naturally going to congregate there, whether for their home port or to do missions.
I'm not sure if the answer is redistributing resources on the server or limiting the number of people who can get in Jita or moving resources out of Jita. In Asheron's Call they literally blew the town of Arwic up so people split up and went to other towns and Arwic was never a problem again.
I really don't want to move away from the two agents I have worked my way up (in Perimeter, right next to Jita) but I may have to if I want to keep playing without my character getting stuck.

Sorry for bumping an old topic, but problem is exactly the same. Can`t log in to the game, more than 5 hours. 5 or 6 attempts to "entering game as...", after it log in ok, and the rest of time - just awaiting for grid loading. I need to start the new skill training, and can`t.
BTW, is there any CCP attention to similar problems? Almost a year ago topic was started, and still the same. I want to play, and don`t want to pay money for silly wasting my time.
To all who want to say "cry more, whine more", i want to wish: "more lags in Jita for you, good and different lags, such long to have the real life".

So, you log out in a system with 800/900 ppl making calls on the db, plus the busiest market region in the game, making thousands upon thousands of db call every second and wonder why you cant get in...
You logout there this is what happens at peak time, there is no solution to physical limitations. don not log off in jita at peak times or it will take 20min to get in.

20 min, if your lucky.
I was once stuck in jita for 5 hours - i left my house and came back and i was still stuck - idk but somthing does need to be done.
maybe a system can be setup with the jumpgates to limit the ammount of traffic coming in to jita, atleast during rush hours...

I've never had any problems login in/out in Jita. The only lag I get is an extra 2 seconds loading times at stations and gates.

Okay, this is the second post that attempts to deal with this issue... Yesterday, I was traveling and had to go through Jita. At that time, I was not aware of the bug. (don't even bother filing a bug report b/c all you get is an email saying "we cannot deal with this" or something). But until CCP finally does come up with a fix (which will hopefully come in revelations 2.3), I have figured out a sort of... half-fix. 1) launch the game client 2) change the server to "multiplicity" 3) download the patch they ask you to, but DO NOT INSTALL IT! 4) let the install window come up, but close it. 5) attempt to log in on tranquility normally 6) get out of Jita!!!! 7) if this works for you, send ISK to Blythl :)
This worked the first time I logged in, but, stupidly, I was still in Jita when I logged off. When I went to log back in, it wouldn't load again, but the next day it worked and I got the crap out of Jita.

This may have nothing to do with it at all, but what type of internet connection do you have?
I only ask becuase i have never had anything beyond an extra 30 seconds or so of lag either in or near Jita, be it traveling, docking or un-docking, or logging on or off. And I've been playing EVE for a long time, at different hours of the day (ie - there's no way I've just avoided peak time, every time). In fact, when people talk about Jita being bad, this is what I thought they were talking about - it hasn't been until I noticed this post that I realised people had it THAT bad.
Anyway, the point is, I've never played EVE on anything slower than cable - is it possible this is a factor? If not, there has to be something that is making the lag worse for some players but not others.

Well, a rule of thumb is never to go into jita unless u absolutely can't avoid it.
Never log in just before/ just after downtime if you did log out in Jita.
And Jita probably won't be removed due to the fact people would go to another system and use that as a new "jita trading hub" type place.

One solution which would probably take some serious changes is to make a central shopping center in Jita that is totally instanced and therefore distributable over multiple servers. For example, when entering one of Jita's gateways, you would have this central shopping area as one of the Station points. You would select it and immediately be transferred into this instance and not stop in front of a station and wait for docking. This would leave normal Jita to the other less traveled stations and other people doing missions.
Of course, you wouldn't be able to meet friends in front of this central shopping area since they may be in other instances of it.

Jita solution:- Close all the gates, declare armageddon day, once everyone is dead and recloned at their home stations, open it again. repeat until people get the idea. Result-less traffic...admittedly the flaw may be that 90% of players there spend their gtc`s market watching and adjusting prices by .1 isk so the cull may not be as successfull as hoped.
