Eve News headlines are they just color or lore, or do they refer to real events the I would observe if I were in the same region? For example today's news-
"12.1.2007 Bleak Lands nexus of mounting Minmatar/Amarr tensions
Over the course of the past month and a half, The Bleak Lands region of the Amarr Empire has played reluctant host to a large number of Matari insurgent attacks, steadily escalating in frequency and intensity.
One attack, in particular, is seen as the flashpoint for the diplomatic tensions that have resulted from the areaÆs conflicts."

They're real. The battlestation destruction mentioned was an Aurora event, part of an arc of events actually. Since then player-driven politics have taken the issue and run with it without any CCP prompting, resulting in a war that at its peak had almost 2000 people involved with war decs flying back and forth between the various Matari and Amarr loyalists corporations and alliances, even dragging in some Caldari and Gallente loyalists. It's now winding down for a number of reasons, the rapid escalation by both sides has been cautiously reduced down to pretty much just the two entities that initiated the shooting, but still ongoing.
Faction Warfare isn't an upcoming feature, it's a player-driven reality here and now.

It depends on the event in the news item. Some of them are flavor texts, designed to move EVE fiction along or introduce new features or content. Other news items are based in in-game events that either the ISD event team (Aurora) has ran or events the Content department have facilitated. Still more of the news items are based on player-generated events, like the creation and destruction of a certain very large ship. In all cases, the news items are part of the EVE fiction and could be considered 'canon' for future development.

Edited by: Amantus on 17/01/2007 19:42:39 All of the things in The Bleak Lands with the Defiants are real and the Battlestation was destroyed in-game. I almost went on the op to kill the battlestation but I had to go out so I missed it . I was really annoyed about that. ------------ Combat miner |
