Welcome to the darker side of Eve. From day one I spent a long time working on my good guy reputation. It was a long and painful trip. Ever since day one I really wanted to become a pirate, but the combat skills were lacking and I eventually learned a good trade and ended up in Celestial Apoc.
We fell out and I left and joined Stain Empire. In Stain was a player who was so rich that he just flowed with riches and eventually we setup a POS together in Empire which was run and controlled by myself. He should have realised as I never gave him full access that something was wrong but no he did not and this went on for months.
My plan was always to steal a couple of billion worth of blueprints but never the right ones seemed to be researched. Over the past few days the person concerned had made noises about leaving and setting up their own POS. I was running out of time very quickly...
Last night I took a quick calculation of what I could see and thank the maker, some fantastic blueprints were there. The only sad point was none of his T2 ones where as they were never put into the factory.
Ripping the blueprints out the factory like a mad man, not forgetting to take my own I passed them to an alt in the station. So that this player was not left with nothing, I transferred the corporation to them and left them with a large POS and lots of fuel. At one point they had told me theyÆd always like to run a POS, now was their chance. In exchange, I took the following:
1 x Abaddon BPO (ME10) 1 x Abaddon BPO (ME10) 1 x Hyperion BPO (ME10) 1 x Hyperion BPO (ME10) 1 x Maelstrom BPO (ME12) 1 x Maelstrom BPO (ME12) 1 x Rokh BPO (ME10) 1 x Rokh BPO (ME10) 1 x Scorpion BPO (ME20)
1 x Drake BPO (ME12) 1 x Drake BPO (ME12) 1 x Harbinger BPO (ME12) 1 x Hurricane BPO (ME12) 1 x Hurricane BPO (ME10) 1 x Myrmidon BPO (ME10) 1 x Myrmidon BPO (ME10)
1 x Minmatar Service Outpost Platform (ME4)
1 x Blackbird BPO (ME22) 1 x Thorax BPO (ME27)
The only problem I had was when I transferred them to my alt, he did not have enough ISK to pay for a shuttle to ferry these a few systems away!!!
Thank God for Warp To 0!!!
Maybe I can finally get a bounty on my head now...

I've always wondered how much my honour was worth tbh. i have had the opurtunity of stealing several billions from corps but never really wanted to because i liked the ppl i was stealing from. if i had the chance to steal 18bil worth of bpo's from someone i knew could afford to lose it and didn't like the person much. i'm actually not sure what i'd do.

Congratulations on being ethically corrupt. I'm sure there are quite a few players in this section who will pat you on the head and let you know how special you are.
For the rest of us, we just see you as another example of why business deals and, friendships, fail on a daily basis.

I'd rob 18bill isk off someone I didn't like no problem, no way i'd betray a corp or people I liked for something that little though, say what you will, but 18 bill isn't -that- much isk these days.
alot, but not that much.
Good catch though

Well they have plenty of T2 BPO's, infact they pretty much own a certain market.
They were also trying to leave me high and dry by leaving without warning, so I did what I had to do.
There was also arguements about certain costs for initial fuel setups which was really beginning to annoy me.
My motives bad from day 1 and the arguements do not justify what I did. However the Game mechanics allow for this behaviour and I did what I needed to do.
I reckon from conversations, the person concerned has probably at least 70 billion more ISK anyway plus all the T2 stuff.

lol dude don't try to change it to the fact that you did it in retaleation to them doing certain things. You already said you were planning it from the beginning.
It's fair enough to do it. many ppl do and would. i kinda like the nice guy approach to eve but it's ppl like you who keep ppl on their toes and makes it interesting. ignore ppl telling you your a low life and spoil the game etc. your path is not the one i and many others have chosen but that doesn't make it wrong.

I agree, not enough to brag about.
However, I am standing up saying I did it rather then try to behind an alt or anything like that as this is a main character rather then an NPC one.

Oh hell no. This just spead things up as I was getting annoyed that they had so much damn isk anyway and they were moaning about fuel etc.

Some people just don't know how to distinguish from rl and the game.
Grats on your new BPOs. Perfectly fine if you ask me; like you said, the victim had many times more ISK so who cares if they lose a few billion? Owning most any slice of the t2 market will make that up in no time.
Enjoy your ISK. Buy a few HACs and go joyriding.

Ever watch a film where only good things happen to the protagonist...? Think you'd ever want to?
Look, I'll candidly admit that I suck at PvP (for now anyway). But even if all I'm doing is ratting and selling loot, I need mean nasty dangerous people to play, otherwise what's the point? Dragging a holdful of mods 40 jumps to Jita for a tiny profit-margin is damb boring. Spending a couple of hours running loot past a gauntlet of war targets, privateers and pirates to make a fat profit, on the other hand is dangerous & exhilerating. It's not like the OP has ripped of these guys real bank accounts. No children are going to miss a meal because of this. Hell, he even still has his T2 BPOs. What he now also has is a motivation. Which do you think is going to provide more satisfaction and meaning: cranking out yet another run of cap charger IIs, or getting revenge on the OP?
Repetitive meaningless tasks for money are what I do to pay for EVE, not what I want to play in EVE... The point of EVE is not to acucmulate the most iskies. The point is to star in your own movie, to be in a story. Excitement, adventure, really wild things!
So to all the pirates, ore-thieves, privateers, corp-scammers & spies out here: thanks!. I'll do my best to thwart your evil schemes, but you doing your best means I have to do mine. And that's what makes EVE fun. That's what makes the game worth playing.

lol. why do ppl keep comparing eve to RL, jees get a grip. if someone doesn't like their rep in eve then they sell their character and buy a new one, simple. in RL it aint quite that simple so of course ppl do things in eve that they wouldn't in RL. i have killed hundereds of ppl in eve, that doesn't mean that i'm going to go out and kill someone in RL. but yeah it is surprising that someone can do it to a person/people he has known for years tbh if they have been decent to the person.

For some of us, if there's a price we'd sell our honor and trust, it's not one that's likely to come up.
Sure, I could find plenty of uses for 18billion ISK, but EVE only a game, whether I have 18billion or 18million, I'll have fun. I'd have more fun with 18billion, but that's not the point. Grats on your haul I suppose, altho if they 'own' part of the T2 market (Khatred?), then 18billion is likely only an annoyance to them. It'd be like someone telling Donald Trump he just got robbed for a million dollars. He'd be ****ed, and make fun of Rosie some more, but it wouldn't really hurt him.

Don't even get me started. You want to say that and you have to account for the millions of rapists, murderers, and other truly ***ked up people out there first before you even get started on the thieves.
Besides, like the guy said, the person he was stealing from had plenty enough to make back what was stolen in little time at all. It's not like he's robbing a person with nothing else blind, and the fact that the person he robbed left himself completely open to this showed that he was either too stupid to be worthy of having that much ISK, and/or he didn't care if he lost such a 'paltry' sum, as most have regarded this amount.

Everything that he did was acceptable within the games rules. He did not cheat. Therefore, all he was doing was advancing his personal position in the game and was thus playing the game as it was meant to be played. I fail to see how a game is analogous to one's behavior in real.

Well, it shows that it is not a sense of morality which prevents him from stealing, it is the consequences that follow. Take out the consequences part and he won't hesitate to steal. Yes it's a video game (that is paid for, by the way), but regardless it is theft, whether the guy is rich or not. Most people would feel some remorse, even if CCP allows it. I think that is the point some people in this thread are trying to get across.
But who cares anyway. People are flawed. Old news.

Originally by: Anferney Everything that he did was acceptable within the games rules. He did not cheat. Very well put - after all - this is just a game and in real life I would never attempt this. After all, running a space station would be a little hard.
I used the tools that CCP gave me to do this, the same way that the player who I did this to used the tools that CCP gave to buy things off Escrow and immediatly put back on at a higher price. The same tools that Shadow earlier mentioned used the tools to scam people with an alt. It's just a game.
I am going to be pod'd to hell and back for this (and I may have made a few enemies out of this) but that is what makes the game fun. Moving about and surviving.
To those that see this as a silly little amount of ISK, to you yes it maybe. To me, 18 billion ISK (not including the cost of research on top of some of those BPO's) which could take it to nearer 20 billion ISK is a nice little war chest.
I love all the goody two shoes saying "evil" and "what price is morality", well I can sleep with what I have done.
To those that thought you trusted me, I am playing the character that I always wanted to really do deep down in the role playing world that is Eve. It did take a lot of background work to build yourself into a position to achive what was done, I never imagined the results would be this good. The payoff was far greater then I had planned.
As for wrecking this characters reputation among some people, I think that you just wish you'd pulled it off yourself. To those that think I did this on the spur of the moment, then think what you like but the fact is, I had plenty of time to do this and only when noises were being made about the victim leaving the corp to setup their own POS, then did I strike.
Cold and nasty, yes. But YARR... ...this is no different to telling somebody that you won't pod them and actually podding them. Just on a slightly larger scale. A breach or trust.

Waves at Mal!
I think Mal is spot on! Please do not misunderstand my agreement with Mal as condoning the OP's actions. Let's just imagine for a moment that there was no corp theft, no piracy, no "questionable" tactics, and PvP was consent only! How long would you continue to play? How long would you play when the risk was minimal? Not long I would say.
Am I pirate, corp thief, griefer? No, because I CHOOSE not be. But this game would be SO boring without them
Let's leave rl out of this discussion, as has been proven time and again, because someone who is a pirate in Eve does NOT make them a pirate in rl. And as far as questioning the OPs rl character based on consequences of actions, I think you would find ALOT of people would do much worse if the rl consequences didn't exists, most peoples morality is founded on the consequences of such actions, and without those consequences the morality changes.

Edited by: Father Lazarous on 31/01/2007 20:16:55 Just to respond to this since I can't respond to the private thread at RK's forums that I had been sent (along with a nice congrts message which was a little out the blue from who it came from), but to address all the points assuming the thread was real (as it did look it)...
- It was not jealousy, it was planned. The fact was, the victim was talking about leaving, I had to make my move. Had the BPO's been moved before the leaving announcment then I'd have lost. However another day I will lose as this is just a game...
- I did not know the researched egg bpo belonged to the alliance "appearently", but what is stolen is stolen.
- Somebody in the thread asked if I was approached. Yes, Orc did approach me from the alliance (he is not the victim).
- Nice stunt in the thread to try to turn the whole alliance against me considering that this was a non-alliance theft, however now that all is revealed it does not matter.
- For the people who can't believe it happened or what I did and want revenge then take note...
...you have me locked down in Geminate space at the moment. I will get out as I have a scout with my hauler worth of crap that I took from the station in K25.
One thing that I learnt well with Celes was how to get in and out of systems no matter what the odds were. We were always travelling up and down the corridor in Stain.
I also need to pass thanks to the Roadkill pilot who let me leave the station with the hauler after he removed all my shields and most of my armor. Nice what a few simple words can do in local...
...I was in the hauler full of goodies and told him to unlock me within 10 seconds or XYZ would happen as once I'd moved my scout back into hiding the damn ceptor turned up at the station. Considering all I had done, he did (which was very surprising) and I made my escape. The only hard bit of the escape was getting out the station and this has been done as the station was always full of people. Nice that a Netural bad person would be allowed to do what they did as I could not dock back. Thank god for jump clones to make travel to K25 that little bit easier.
As to what have I done with the BP's, sold some, invested others and helped a few people out in game. As for the egg BPO, yes I still have it.

Welcome to a computer game.
Life is also a game. The fact that the consequences in a game are not as hurting as in real life, makes a lot of people to reveal some well hidden parts of their characters that are forced to stay hidden in real life due to them.
It's not a coincidence that many psychological tests as well as in some sophisticated interviews for jobs use games, in order to reveal these parts of ones character. Otherwise they would not be revealed given the consequences the subject would endure.
Think about this before making an assumption that because is a game, it's ok.

Heh that's fascinating stuff. may be there is some truth in that. But I certainly wouldn't go as far as saying all pirates and scammers have an evil side to their psyche. Hm perhaps the scammers...... Well those that betray the trust of 'friends' for sure. But I like this about the game. I wouldn't stoop to the level of scamming , but the fact that others would and that they are able to do it makes the game realistic and exciting. <3 it.

I'd taken the stuff to Arrows system and undocked from station etc.
Got to the next system with alt, nobody at gates and moved at to mid-safe.
Moved main into system and at that point they turned up a gate. Great game of cat and mouse with a cloaked hauler.
Lost mainly a few mods for ships (mostly a few T2 hardners for Raven and some Apoc stuff). A lot of hauler stuff died with a few T2 things that survived. As I'd sold a fair few mins on market before undocking, I reckon I lost about 60mil worth of stuff... oh, the pain!!!
I am going to do some mining now to recover my losses.
