Use this thread to discuss a little about the latest version of EVE-Files (v4.1) that was launched recently.
Did you notice any changes performance-wise, better result, worse, faster, slower, etc you get my point.
Personally I think the upgrade was quite ok, I noticed or at least want to think I noticed that queries ran quicker.
So I think I could make it run even quicker, however that will require a new machine, so I thought I'd see if there would be any interest from the community to help sponsor such a thing, and your thoughts around that.
Of course I can't give any cost details right now but assume a new machine required for this goes for $2,500 would there be any interest from 2,5000 people to donate $1 each in order to roll out this project?

Edited by: Vir Hellnamin on 18/01/2007 08:51:36 After running some searches - random words - it seems that the engine is faster (a lot).
I was wondering about the possibility of donation on few days back after our smallish discussion in New Citizen Q&A about eve-seach'ing... $1 (or bit more) does not sound that impossible. Yes, I use search and files constantly. -- V.H. |

i found a new "feature" although i am not sure if it is related to the latest update or not.
i am talking about the "next 20 records" link, that is a tricky link. i mean, it makes you think that if you press it you will be shown the next 20 records of whatever you are looking for, right? well, it doesnt. dont think, however, that it does nothing. no, no. it does, it is a masked "recycle" link. very clever dude
about speed and general performance, i have to say that i find it a little bit faster, specially when loading all the pictures and browsing to a particular post on a long thread.
anyway, it wouldnt matter if it was slow as hell, it is the most useful EVE-related site to me. thanks a lot for your efforts.
pd: the "20 next records" feature happens always when looking at the latests devs posts.

Would think you would pretty much deserve it; whether it was to support the new machine, or just for running costs and development fees.
Although instead of asking for $1, would think something like "Please donate $5 or $10, although even $1 helps" might work better. Especially if we consider how small those sums are compared to how much we pay for Eve each year.

I think it works a lot better...used to have the search time out once in a while before and doesnŠt happen now from what I can see. Donation? Sure...though I would probably not get my wallet out for $1

I like this tool - thin and very handy... was browsing around a bit...
one thing confuses me though
ingame I have access to Madonushi Huutsogaitoh (Ammatar Fleet Security lvl 1 qual 5 agent) with Ammatar standing -0.79 (from -2.26 with diplo skill lvl 3) (no Ammatar Fleet corp standing) ... your page lists an required standing of 0.25 ?

Think you posted in the wrong thread as this is about EVE-Search, not EVE-Agents but anyway hehe You got positive standing towards Amarr Faction perhaps? iirc you get access to agents via faction standings as well as corp and personal. But otherwise I'm not sure tbh.

I'm also seeing a bug with the 'next 20 records'.
Searched for 1 word in the sell orders, 1st page comes back with posts from the last couple days to the 18th, 2nd page is a few days from December 17th back to the 15th, 3rd page is from November etc.
As long as you find what you want on the first page it's great though.

You sure that there are posts with the query within the range of the other dates? Maybe I screwed up, will look into it. Drop me an example of your search and I'll see if I made something wrong.

P.S. All for helping you out with some cash for the new puter. However im not big on electronic transfers. So if you offer an alternative ill hook you up.
I'm afraid that the only way is through PayPal or maybe Western Union.

Yeah, I confirmed with a few other searches before posting, though still all within the sell orders sub forum. Initial search was for 'capital'. Each page goes back 1 additional month. I've tried other common words (such as BS in Missions sub forum) and get the same behaviour, but only when searching a sub-forum, not when searching generally.

I use it from time to time at work, The thing about work. is that it routes through a horrible nasty proxy sometimes with Evil Pac files as well and the connection is usually Slow to say the least.
That said, now it seems to be runnning 500% Faster, Search results come in , instantly, pages load up alot faster.

TBH eve-search especially used to time out a lot. Happened to be one of the reasons I basically stopped using it.
Now it rox! Nice work!

I am using the Dev Post Finder function and "Next 20 Records" brings me to the *first* 20 records over and over. I am using the latest Internet Explorer (7.0.5730.11) in Windows XP Pro. Next 20 works great in regular search results. (Is this the intended functionality?) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Woohoo! Nice work! My searches go through, and quickly at that! I had also given up using EVE Search because it would give an sql query timeout 19 out of 20 times. Lookin' good! Thanks Chribba!

How about a "Dev Post Finder" RSS feed? Could even have it link directly to the E-O forums to reduce load on your own system (or not, if that's your preference).
