How well can you do lvl 3 missions in a Caracal and low skills (ie 1 week, 532k in missiles however that includes 512k in Missile Bombardment, Cruiser lvl 2 and a few other combat related skills)?
I already did one lvl 3 kill mission but that was an easy one, Eliminate the pirate campers and that was not a problem.
I have played for more than one year (but haven't used Caldari ships/missiles that much and it was a long time I did lvl 3 missions when not in a BS), this is a new character I am training up, so I am not exactly a noob. But my skills are ATM
Perhaps train up BC (my plan was to speed for Raven and related skills) and get a Drake before doing lvl 3s? However I want to avoid training any skills I don't plan to use (this char will be for mission running in a Raven and R&D only). Not that training BC lvl 2 take that long

Low skilled cruiser in L3 will get your cruiser killed fast. ---------------- 1337 = I III III VII Cookie = Confectionary Discus

I agree with this person, m'kay
Train up for BC ( the drake is nice ) will give you better chance's with lvl3.
The hefty lvl3 missions are sometimes even a strain for my Deimos.

Assault frigates are the most cost effective way to do lvl 3s. A cruiser definately wont cut it. If I were you id train up for a drake with assault launchers and breeze through lvl 3s

This is not only untrue it is absurd. Assault Frigates are most definitely not the most cost effective way to do level 3's. They are an absolutely horrid way to do level 3's if your goal is ISK or Standing or LP (the primary reasons for doing missions). If your goal is fun, then perhaps.
As to the OP, don't even think about it. Not only is your ship too small for level 3's but you're saying you have low skillpoints. Even level 2's can be hard in a caracal with low skillpoints, since generally low skillpoints means you have not yet figured out how to correct outfit a ship in EVE yet.
Get a BC or a BS even and do level 3's in that. These days the Drake is the best level 3 mission ship that you'll get for quite a while. The Nighthawk is better but you are half a year away from that at the earliest.

Hehe did you miss the part about this was a new alt and I have played for more than a year (november 2005). I do very well know how to fit a ship even if I have not used Caldari (but ships for all the other races).
Also remember that new characters now get some good starting skills compared to before (but why give Missile Bombardment V as starting skill is a bit strange though). Level 2 kill missions are really easy to do even with my low SP. Done Blockade, Mordus Headhunters, Silence the Informant, Whispers in the Dark and a few other and none has been a problem. Done a few easy lvl 3 like Duo of Death, Pirate Campers without any problems. But I would most certainly turn down Massive Attack and oh just got Mordus Headhunters lvl 3 add that to skip list.
But I agree with you though, Drake would be much better so I am going to train up for that next. However I soon have standings to start doing lvl 4 and I doubt a Drake with low skills can manage that so I will probably just do lvl 3 kill mission. But I run mostly courier missions ATM though (don't have that much choice when doing missions for Core Complexion).

Since you are an old player you will know what I mean by old missions. Most of them could be easily compleated with a skilled Caracal. Some had just too much blob damage (spy stash, silence the informant, black market hub), but I made Downing the slavers 2/2 reqularily with a Caracal. A mission that some people considered the hardest lvl3 mission at that time.
So You can do lvl3s with a Caracal. Just choose your distance (fit AB and forget assaults) and choose your missions.

I wouldn't suggest it. As others said, the Drake is king for Level 3s. Absolutely nasty shield tank and seven launchers. 'Nuff said.

Yes you are right. There are some lvl 3 missions that are really easy to do. Like Rogue Drone Harassment which I just did (and with assaults, waiting for engineer 4 to finish so I can fit heavies) also done Duo of death and I think Sansha Spies. Missing convoy is probably also a good candidate (any rogue drone missions are good, they are slow and has a short range). I got Retribution, I think it might be doable in a Cara as well (but might need to use heavies though).

Edited by: Toolivus on 24/01/2007 11:33:31 With 5 heavies, 3 hardeners, 2lse's (one might have been medium), and 2 pdses (no tech 2, no terribly great named) and less than 400k in missiles or engineering and cruiser 2 or 3 I soloed missing reporters and a bunch of others for some minmatar agent. If you can kite the spawns and only agro one group at a time you're golden. Align first up, warp out if it gets too hot. Loot in something fast because your wrecks will be strung out really far.
Another cruiser for it is the vexor. 3 250mm rails (long range ammo), 2 drone link augs named ab, sensor booster, omni tracking link/tp 2 overdrives, 1 nano, 1 tracking enhancer 5 lights, 5 meds
The key for this is getting out to 55-70km before getting agro too much agro and sniping from there. I get seventy something lock range, optimal + falloff and drone control range. Avoid insta-webbing missions like massive attack and ones with big blobs that agro on warp. Also consider a shield extender instead of the omnitracking which I don't think is helping much.
omg! I have a portrait!

Sorry, I meant to say "Cheapest way" not most cost effective

Caracal can do some Level 3s I do them in my caracal. I suggest pushing Cruiser level up as high as possible (to 5 if u can it helps) because of the missle bonuses for the Caracal. Also focus on heavy missle skills and missle launcher ops. With the right combo and a sensor booster, your caracal can hit from 70+kms with heavies > I use 2 heavy and 3 assault (light) launchers, all kinetic damage.
Good luck
