Hello, I am a fairly new player with rather limited PvP experience and I was just wondering which ship would be better to test out the waters. Incursus or Tristan? I have a little over 3 million skill points but have been mostly running missions while I train and earn money to fund my desire to PvP. I am sure a lot of people will say get a rifter but if at all possible I would like to stick to gallente. So if anyone could be so kind to enlighten me which one they believe to be better in PvP and why I would be grateful. And maybe an example ship setup that would be great. Thanks

The incursus is cheap, easy to fit, not very SP intensive. It gets my vote.
I tried to fight a shark with a pistol underwater once, and I'll be damned if he didn't laugh at me and eat me. Sharks need a ******* nerf. True story.

I'd agree on the Incursus. I prefer the Falloff bonus to the Tracking bonus on the Tristan, and I DESPISE mixed hardpoints (I'll take the 3 turret hardpoints of the Incursus over the 2 turret\2 launcher hardpoints of the Tristan any day).

I like the Incursus. Not done a lot of PVP with one so can't comment there, but a tackler setup could be something like this:
HI: blasters and/or small NOS MID: MWD, scrambler, webber LO: armor plate, armor repper
Incursus is pretty tight to fit grid wise. Best fit I could get (with 5 mill sp) was 3 named light electrons, a 200 mm plate and a 'civilian' repper (yes you read that right). Could drop the plate and fit a couple of Ions or possibly even fit a MAPC for Neutrons, but won't have much/any tank.

i personally prefer the Tristan, though the incusrus makes a good cheap tackler
Tristan setup
Highs
2x Neutron Blasters w/void 1x nos 1x abalast missile launcher w/whatever
meds
catalyzed thrusters x5 web j5 scram
lows
Small armour rep Micro Aux power core Cap relay
drone
1x hobgoblin
basically get in kill there frigs and get out.. i can go 1.8km/s and my nav skills aren't great. t2 where you can ofcourse.
or if blasters aren't your thing:
highs
2x 125mm w/ antimatter 2x standard missiles launchers w/ whatever
med
cold gas thruster j5 scram micro cap injector (only there as its a spare spot and it fits)
lows
small armour rep micro Aux power core cap relay
drone bay hobgoblin
orbit 10km or drop anti for spike if you want to be further away. again t2 where you can

Frigs are nice and all to start with. But I found simply they don't have the DPS to really be too effective. Keep saving and buy a handful of cruisers to go through learning how to PVP. ------------------------------------ Shadrin CEO, Girlfriend Thieves Inc. Recruiting information |

T1 Gallente frigs might not have good DPS but a few of the the Gallente t2 Frigs do more damage then some cruisers Yeah I am a pirate. What are you gonna do about it? |

I like Spooney's setup. With T2 blasters it can do a surprising amount of DPS. Only difference is I'd use a Warrior II instead of the Hobgoblin.

Oh I have more then enough isk to fit out quite a few cruisers. I was just looking to start with a frigate to get a little more PvP experience since I am expecting to die and frigates are so cheap I can insure them and make a profit when it blows up, assuming no mods were on it, and I have no expectations of actually surviving many of my first PvP encounters (although it would be nice to take someone with me ).
Thank you all for the advice. A lot of people are mentioning tackling or anti tackling but I am more looking for a solo experience picking on people who aren't built for anti frig and what not. I realize I won't be soloing battleships or anything but I hear people taking on cruisers with t1 frigs but that may only be the chase for rather skilled pilots. So I guess really I am looking for anti frig, cruiser, or miner set ups and advice.
I was also wondering if I should use mwd to go fast enough for larger caliber guns from hitting me or will the increased sig radius cause me to get toasted before I even get there? I have all the capacitor skills at four or five so I hope I would be able to use the mwd without destroying my ability to use other modules. Anyway thanks for helping a newb

i prefeer the incursus over the tristen. mainly becuse of the incursus speed.
when fitting it i ususally go for an all out do or die setup.
3 ions MWD, webber, warp scrambler 2 Istabs or damage mods if you can fit them.

Personally, i use a punisher and can take out nearly any frig, cruiser, and some BC i've crossed. Only real weakness is against webbers or blasterax. For gallente, tristan is great, use: high: 2 named rocket launcher, 2 small nos med: web, AB, scram low SARII, cap power relay and EANM

I like the tristan, yeah another turret would be good but I use 2x blasters and 2x rockets. Works nice but inside web range. ---------------------- Pointless forum slowing bandwidth hogging signature pic inc? |

My vote goes with the incursus too. No split bonuses, about half to one third of the cost, looks better, etc. ---------------- 1337 = I III III VII Cookie = Confectionary Discus

Insursus all the way.
I had: 2 T2 Ion/Electrons, 1 Named Nos...AB, Web, 2pts...T2 Rep, and dont remember.
But with this setup I was able to take out Gisti A-type fitted Harpies (w/ 150mm's and a standard launcher) and poorly fitted Ferox/Proph's.
It can do over 750 m/s so as long as you arent web'd and they dont have rockets, you can take out a good handful of bigger ships.
All in all a ton of fun!
