Please put an effort into testing Vivox the next few days.
We've created a test channel on Singularity called "Vivox Testing".
Please leave all feedback here, your input means a lot.

The system seems good so far, different channels and functions like the "channel command" in team speak would be useful, but you already seemed the have that covered for later.. the beeps when people enter and leave channel are annoying :P. The voice quality seems fine, I found the volumes to be low even with voice volume to max û but only a few others seemed to have this problem so might just be my volume set up on my PC, in any case I would like to have the option be much louder if needed. We chatted for a fair bit in general and did not have many problems other then mics getting stuck open at times, nozh has his mic stuck open for a long while and we heard lots of cheers from where ever he was, sounded fun! It is nice to have a chat system integrated into eve rather then having to get people to join up before heading out to pvp or whatever team op you plan to do. Some people had problems assigning a key to the push to talk; re-logging seemed to fix it, a strange problem indeedà
Questions include,
How much will it cost?
Will each alt have to pay a separate fee to use it?
Will people really use it over TS?, since everyone needs to be talking during pvp, I feel there will always be people who will not pay for it and so the whole group will end up on Team Speak in order to speak to everyone rather then just those who have the vivox feature. (other views or opinions??)
Will be very interested to see this in action after a few refinements. :)
Ps, One guy closed his eve client and could still talk to us and hear us :)

I submitted a report a few patches back and the bug still exists, after entering the game it will simply CTD before loading the station. I narrowed it down to one of the three vivox dlls, after playing with the 3 of them, removing VxPortManager.dll allowed channels to load up but as you can probably guess vivox doesn't want to work now.
I know a few others have had this problem in the #eve-chaos channel too. The only noticable thing in the logserver is that the client will die after "Vivox Login". |

How much will it cost?
$10
Will each alt have to pay a separate fee to use it?
covers all accounts you own
Will people really use it over TS?
mostly smaller organisations
since everyone needs to be talking during pvp,
everyone needs to be listening, not talking (small correction hehe)
I feel there will always be people who will not pay for it and so the whole group will end up on Team Speak in order to speak to everyone rather then just those who have the vivox feature. (other views or opinions??)
quite possiblly but thats up for each organisation to decide, ultimatly no one can force you, but you will miss out if you dont use one or t'other. probably no harm in getting vivox anyway, at $10 a year, its hardly a bank breaker and probably quite useful even if not your official fleet VC.
Ps, One guy closed his eve client and could still talk to us and hear us :)
designed that way so is game crashes for eg you can still listen, talk to each other like you would on ts/vent for eg

I think it's an excellent idea. The voice quality is unmatched. (Although it was me and only 2 other people in the channel). The only thing is I wish there was an option to change voice output. I use a USB mic and the speaker is busted and the Vivox forces me to use the built in speaker (which is broken) Minor, but that option would be useful.

I would rather see a pay to talk option. Most people without mics dont want to fork out money for something they dont see as very useful.
Maybe give an option for the corperation (or player) to pay for the service ingame... I know some peeps renew their time via isk -> timecard. I would like to see a similar option (ie vivox timecard).
Just a few ideas, I think we will be using TS for the time being. --WTB AVITAR--

It¦s now possible for me to use Vivox since about 2 days.
But I¦m pretty sure, that I will not use Vivox on TQ.
Reasons: *) 10$/year is not much per se, but still too much, if you don¦t need it *) All members of the alliance would have to use Vivox, which cannot be demanded. *) Many missing features like whispering (to other named players or to other channel commanders), muting other players, set yourself as away etc. *) It takes too long to switch to another channel

Edited by: Callistus on 25/01/2007 20:08:06 Anyone had any luck getting this to run on Vista?
Back when it was first tested I always crashed to desktop at the "entering game as" screen. But this time around when I try to patch the client I get a BSOD saying DRIVER_IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL halfway through the installation
First BSOD I've had since I started running Vista RC2 a few months ago
EDIT: Also the crash managed to corrupt BOTH my test client and my main client which is installed in an entirely seperate folder --------------

I'm also getting this exact problem. That is with 29191. Have submitted a bug report about it a few patches ago.
I tried removing the VxPortManager.dll but got verification errors. Guess they added it to the verification list in todays patch...
Anyway having just learned that the vivox feature will cost something, I can safely say that I will never use it. The monthly price for this game is way to high to begin with, so anything like this should be able to fit in that budget.

It's workign alright for me, although the UI is still VERY laggy and when I key up my speech bubble takes a couple of seconds to turn green. Also I don't see others turn green when they talk.
Over all the volume and quality of it is very good but the UI lag is HORRIBLE (although better then about 3 weeks ago)
Please have a look at the UI lag because at the moment its no where near ready to put into the game.

To clarify, loading the client first then removing the DLL will allow the game to load without error. For example, load the client as usual and login, on the character select screen remove the dll from the /bin dir and the game should now load without crashing to desktop after entering game.
I understand that this could get me banned from the test server so I would never use it on TQ and I am not held responsible if anyone else gets banned for using this method. I was simply trying to narrow down what was causing the CTD. |

I get a constant downstream of 10kB while voice is active although noone is speaking.... i create a 10kB upstream when speaking ... Thats way too much imho. The response from the click to actually having the green light indicating that you are able to speak is way to slow.. for short and fast communication.(delay is about 0.5-1sec atleast thats what du meter is telling me/click ->xmit )
there seam to be some issues with leaving joining the channel ( i get a leave oice option although i am not using voice in that channel)
if there is something wrong with the settings rebooting seams to help...
could not activate voice the first time as i was blocking the internet explorer. maybe there should be warning to tell people that they are using that browser for voice... isnt it possible to use the standart browser for that instead of the ie or none?
sorry thats not very detailed...
just had a very brief look into voice...
to round everything up imo at current state its not possible to do anything good in pvp with it as its reacting to slow and creating way to much traffic! Also there seam to be alot of strange behavior which makes me think if its a good idea to implement it this soon. |

Edited by: Yorick Downe on 27/01/2007 00:52:37 Same issue as with previous builds: - I can see mike input in the game settings screen when I speak - "Join Audio" does nothing: - Remains "Join Audio", no indication anything succeeded - No "green blob" when pressing middle mouse - Cannot hear people, they can't hear me -> I haven't actually joined
Creative Labs Audigy 2ZS Gamer, with recent drivers. TS and Vent work well. The only thing I can think of that is unusual about my setup is: WinXP Pro 64-bit. Maybe that's the culprit, but if so, I'm wondering what Vivox does differently from other solutions. EvE does run in 32-bit mode on this machine, and well I might add.

1. Should default to push-to-talk.
2. I like the ability to switch input sources in the esc menu, but it would be nice to be able to "lock" one.
It looks like it defaults to whatever the windows recording input is. In my case, I have tv recording software that automatically switches the recording input to line-in. So with the combination of that and the default not being push-to-talk, if I join a gang with vivox, they're going to get an earful of whatever is on tv.
Testing:
- Start TV tuner - windows recording input automatically gets switched to line-in.
- Start Eve - recording input is set to line-in
- Switch to Microphone
- Start TV tuner - software overrides eve setting and switches back to line-in (Eve audio settings UI doesn't update).
- Quit Eve and restart - Audio input setting shows line-in.
To fix this, I'm envisioning a "lock to this input" checkbox and if that's checked when Eve starts it automatically changes the input back to what the eve audio input setting was. ___________________________

I just verified this. Is this (constant downstream) only a bug in the current version or is this by design? It is really NOT ACCEPTABLE to have a constant downstream of 10kB/s for hours.

1)Left click on "vivox testing" channel. 2)Join Audio 3)Configure your keyboard: Escape->shortcut label, find the "talk" description. (if your sort the first column, it should be in the 5 last row) 4)Ctrl+any keyboard key 5)Try to talk !!

Ok no way to know if you have joined the Audio, when you keep right clicking the channel it keeps saying join audio, if someone else in the channel saw a green speaker by my name, i dont see it. And for some that can hear others, I can not hear them at all.

I tried this out tonight for the first time.
Followed the Vivox instruction to join audio.
At first I couldn't hear anything and the others couldn't hear anything.
I logged in an alt and got both accounts to join corp audio. I could hear myself clearly. Even when I turned the audio off on the alt. Not sure if this is a "feature", but if I want audio off, I want audio off.
Joined the Vivox channel again and all I could hear was really garbled talk from the others, they seemed to be US based, I am in the UK. If this is a distance problem then it could be really bad!
When a user from the same country joined I could hear them perfectly.
With a client open and not joined to audio, download rate was 0kbps if nothing was happening. As soon as you join audio the download rate is around 64kbps per client, constantly! Talking in one client shifts the upload speed to around 32-64kbps. With both clients joined it's doubled, so 128kps peak...
The speech bubbles seem to be broken, and the join/leave options are flakey. If I click on join audio on my corp channel the bubble appears. If I click leave it goes away, then a few seconds later it comes back. If I then right click I dont have a leave option, and if I join on another channel I dont get the leave option either. However the audio does seem to transfer, but I've only known this using an alt. It's very confusing.
Teamspeak tends to be poor because of the low bit rate used, so you can see why this sounds better when it's using mono CD quality MP3 bit rates - you can't fail. Could work well though if the bugs are quashed. Bring on the next patch!
Also, are there fleet comms we should be testing? It would be excellent if commanders could talk up and down the chain of command, but members could only talk within. The structure is all there in the new fleet system and would make people definitely chose this over Ventrillo or TS. |

Sound quality is excellent, very impressed with that.
The "push to talk" key option needs to be taken off the "shortcut" menu and placed on the Vivox menu (under audio) and it needs to be able to be just ONE button either a configurable mouse button (not just the middle) and/or ONLY "CTRL" or "SHIFT" or "ALT".
The green light that indicates you are talking in the channel needs to be MUCH faster .... instant basically.
It also needs to work when Eve in minimised.
It will be interesting to see how many people acutally pay for this service rather than use the FREE teamspeak they are already using ..

DEP disables it because it's about to crash. Disabling DEP simply lets it crash. the conflict as far as i can tell from looking at logserver is Vivox. but then this build is not even being built for Vista it's still being built for XP, though it might be prodent for CCP to realise that a lot of people will upgrade to Vista from XP but still be unable to run the new version of Eve because they don't haev directx10 graphics cards, so making this version of Eve work in Vista will become more important, perhaps not now, but certainly a few months after release.

I did a bit of testing last night while the downtime was happening and here is what I've found so far.
I tried EVE on two computers.
Computer 1 - Main gaming box, onboard sound (C-Media) mic works with ventrilo and msn fine. Eve would just not detect a microphone? I'm not sure why the vivox settings do not show on this computer.
Computer 2 - Main working box (outlook, programming tools, etc), onboard sound (NForce 2), Eve detects something better here and shows vivox settings straight away. These show regardless if audio is enable/disabled. This machine hasn't got the best video card and is normally used over VNC which Eve isn't the best over.
I thought Computer 1 wasn't working because of the c-media audio, pluged in a USB headset which is also using c-media chipset and it also did not show anything extra in eve. Pluged in an old SB Live which also did not help my situation. I disabled the onboard sound which also did not help. I am going to try another USB headset which I know is not c-media and I am going to try using another sound card (Audigy) if I can find it in my old parts box.
I am also going to try computer 2 with either USB headsets pluged in to see if it changes anything.
Eve Devs how is eve detecting if vivox setting are to be shown? Can you please change it so it always shows and disables the settings if its not detecting an input device or something. I ran the log server and from what I could see in it did not show any issues with vivox at all and didn't show me enough information on why its not showing.
I've got some spare parts around (3.2g P4, Asus P5B / A64 3000+ and Asus M2NPV) I might install windows on and try eve on these boxes also. Both have onboard sound one is nForce4 and the other is using an Intel chipset but not sure if sound is another chip or not for either board (I should quickly look up their stats).
I will report back in a few days with my findings.
Devs if there is anything you would like me to try please say.

vivox log files should not be stored just loose on the C: drive root.
Preferably, they should be in [installpath]\capture\vivoxlogs\ ___________________________

Can we get an option to disable the action menue completely? Up to now i wasn't using it and i assigned the middle mouse button to it. With vivox in default settings, this is no longer possible

I like the idea of TS like channel commander options. Especially with the current fleet design. Fleet commanders should be able to communicate with wing commands, who can talk to FC and Squad commands, who can then talk to squad members. This would be a minimum web of communication. The "middle" commanders would have to have options as to when their subordinates can hear them, to avoid confusion.
Also, the price is fantastic for the quality! I was impressed with integration and functionality. It's obviously still in testing, but impressive non-the-less. I would like to be allowed to create "voice" channels to test the UI of these functions. Currently, I could only join voice on the channel a Dev set up. Ideally, I think ANY channel should have voice options enabled.
The price again is great, however, when first discussed there was talk of a corporate/alliance wide pricing option. Expecting everyone to fork out 10$ is a lot considering I already offer them free TS usage. However, if I can pay a similarly tempting price to offer this service to my entire corporation it may be worth saving me the headache of running a TS server, and would more easily facilitate the whole corporation getting into voice communications. Any thoughts on that? --- Your RIGHTS are a PRIVILEGE, don't abuse them.

OK, thought I'd try out vivox on sisi and see what's what and how well it runs in it's current incarnation.
Options screen everything is good, works well... but (you knew there would be one) I have a Logitech MX Laser mouse and it has only two main buttons plus scroll wheel that is also a button and some thumb buttons for other stuff. Long story short, can't seem to get chat to activate, but then I can't get into the "Join Voice" anyway... it never changes from just "Join Voice" and when looking at my logserver log file it shows:
"Orphan'd event. DoDevicePreReset doesn't have any listeners"
Then a load of other stuff. This happens everytime I try to join a voice channel.
This is a sig...

I am running vista also, and after I pick my char, it loads up like 90%, then gives me an error message. [CCP Blue Framework has stoped working] It has to do with DEP (Data Execution Prevention. Man I hope this gets fixed soon....

Ditto the vista issue. Not DEP issue. I've disabled it. Back to XP for me!
