So, I'm over a year old now. I thought that now would be as good of a time as ever to attempt PvP as any other. So I said goodbye to my friends in my mission running corp, and applied to a PvP corp with access to a couple wars against corps operating in Essence area. I left my mission running (rigged) phoon behind, and purchased myself a new phoon, and attempted to fit a nanophoon.
Now, having only been a mission runner all of my life, I had some troubles putting one together. First of all, I only had Energy Emission Systems trained to level 2. I figured I could temporarily substitute medium NOS instead of heavy NOS (mistake #1). My new CEO recommended that I fit torps on my phoon instead of cruises, since we would be fighting battleships. Unfortunately, I had not trained torps skill yet, but I trained that really quick and fitted torps. I would essentially be relying on missiles and drones for damage (relying on missiles for damage - mistake #2. I only have 600k of sps in missiles). I then purchased and fit a named MWD (not having skills for T2 MWD, possibly mistake #3), a heavy cap booster, a scrambler, and a passive targetter (mistake #4 - useless mod. Even a sensor booster would be more appropriate). In the lows, I fit 4 nanos, and 3 inertial stabs.
Now the only thing leeft was for me and my new comrades to wait for a target. Eventually we found a target. Our CEO told us to dock and rearm and wait for the signal to undock. Our CEO suddenly told us to dock and warp to a gate, and jump through. The chase began. Our target was flying in a Raven. I figured that it should be easy enough since the Raven was supposedly a crappy PvP ship. We jumped through the gate, only to barely see our target warp off immediately. Pausing only to determine the his destination gate, we pursued. After 2 jumps, I had gotten ahead of my comrades (being in a nanophoon and all). My CEO told me to wait at the next gate. I arrived there to see our target waiting, shield modules activated. He targetted me but did not fire. My CEO told me to wait there for him and our other comrade.
My CEO arrived and the target suddenly opened fire on our CEO. Our 3rd comrade was still lagging a jump behind. But the battle began regardless. I was ordered to open fire and I happily obliged. I launched 5 Ogre I's, and unloaded a salvo of Mjolnir torps at the target. It was then that I learned how tough of a shield tank a Raven can fit. Even with a blasterthron, 5 Ogre I's and 4 siege launchers on the target, we could not take him down.
Enter NOSdomi stage left.
The NOSdomi immediately went for our CEO, who ordered us to take care of the domi. I then targeted the NOSdomi, and approached (not orbit) him with MWD activated (mistake #5). I then learned how nasty a stasis webifier is against a ship which relies upon transversal velocity to survive. Reduced to a mere 250 m/s, the NOSdomi released his drones and ordered them to attack me. In a panic, I knew that I was already dead. However, I was determined to do SOMETHING. I had lost my shields, and my armor was disappearing fast I targetted the heavy drones immediately, pulled in my own heavy drones and launched my light drones. I ordered my light drones to attack the heavy drones. Unfortunately, my armor wore thin, and my precious hull was breached. With a hearty *pop* my phoon was no more, and I was staring at my juicy pod. I warped to the nearest station before I could be killed. My blood pumping, I learned that my comrades had suffered a similar fate. The engagement was a total failure.
However, armed with the knowledge afforded me by my own mistakes, I hope to return to the battlefield soon again.
