Couldn't find this in search, so hopefully not a repeat idea.
I was thinking earlier, while setting up 15 planets worth of PI, why not make it so you can save configurations, so you don't have to keep building and linking?
Maybe, drop a Command Center, then click a profile from a previous build, and everything drops and links. All you have to do is configure your extractors.
Kind of like fitting templates, etc. You can share them with other people or toons as well. Might make PI easier for people who aren't familiar with it too.
Whatcha think? |

Yes this has been suggested before.
No, you cannot eliminate 99.99998% of all work involved in PI.
EvE is hard. It's harder if you're stupid.
I couldn't have said it better.
Hello, Mr Carebear. Would you like some cheese with that whine?

I don't know, invention had the same problem once upon a time, and some folks found curing that objectionable, too, but it's inarguably better now. When the "work" is basically just wrestling with a UI that can only be described as "willfully horseshit", it can't be reasonably regarded as good gameplay.
Just adding templates probably isn't the solution. Really, the whole ******* thing should be fired out of a cannon (preferably into the sun) and done over as something less absurd.

The ideal would be for PI to have it's difficulty come from technical know-how (industrial engineering, labor relations, etc.) and economic awareness (in-game), and to streamline the clicky side of things. Is carpal tunnel ever good gameplay? |

The PI interface is brutally terrible. It violates almost every good practice in a design and it offers exactly nothing in terms of gameplay. Heck "grind" mechanics offer more gameplay than the current PI interface.
You could offer the exact same function using something like the planet management function of galactic civilizations 3. Hex based % bonus grid systems with adjacency bonuses. Hell toss in random weekly "resource" buffs and you've got yourself an actually interesting min/max system that is easy to learn yet hard to master. It's also dirt simple development wise compared to many other solutions. |

1 window to list my planets 1 window when I click an extractor 1 window when I want to reset the extractor 1 window to click submit
... And that's just resetting my planets! Not counting the 1 window to transfer goods every once in a while.
Once the PI is set up, all we honestly need is a "reset all extractors" under the planet list (those who min-max and actually move the heads around will benefit from doing so and get better yields) + "loot all" option at the POCO.
