Has something changed with Exploration recently that I am unaware of?
FWIW I am not new to exploration and I understand the mechanics of it. For the last 2-3 weeks I have been away from the game and today decided to poke around with exploration again.
So, I set out in my CovOps ship loaded with probes. My skills for exploration (or running probes if you prefer) are at least L3 or better across the board. Not uber but decent. My CovOps ship has 2 Grav rigs and I get a 200 second scan time with my probes all things considered.
So I jet around to some 0.5 systems and drop by Multispec probe. Lucky day first try I see a Gravimetric signature! So I set about dropping Grav Quest probes at all planets. As usual the inner planets are too close for one each so I do what I can.
Scan, scan, scan, ad nauseum...nothing.
I kill some inner planet probes and drop some new quest probes on different planets.
Scan, scan, scan till the probes self destruct. Nothing.
Try again at another planet...nothing.
So I wander some other systems and again I find a Gravimetric signature.
Same as above although THIS time I pay extra close attention and scan every freaking planet and do so repeatedly till the probes wear out just to see.
NOTHING!
Am I whining? Yeah...I suppose so. I understand there is a chance based deal going on here and I do not expect to find something with 2 minutes of effort but c'mon...I must be missing something or have to accept I am the unluckiest SOB in EVE. I literally spent 8 hours (don't worry...was watching TV, talking on the phone, reading, surfing the web, etc) and something like 2-3 mil in probes and got ZERO returns?
Please tell me I am missing something or that probing is borked!

i think its just a matter of luck, i have been trying to scan down 1 radar site for almost 12 hours with no results, even had a corp mate who was scanning for it aswell with no luck. in the end igave up and moved to another system.
i've had days that i would get results within 1-2 scans and this is the first time i am actually not getting any result using multiple quest probes --

Heh....squeaky wheel gets the grease I guess.
Was about to bail for the night and my last scan finally popped.
Still a bit ridiculous in the time and effort department but glad to know it is working....sort of.

Edited by: Humpalot on 26/01/2007 04:59:00 Spoke too soon.
Got the sig and with a Sift got to within 490km. Now Sift brings up nothing.
I do not remember Sifts being so inaccurate.
EDIT: Got a new hit at 305km. Dropped another Sift and its scan told me the hit was at 557km. Is the scan supposed to get worse? Note I am not griping here (well...maybe a little) but this never happened to me before. Usually once I was on with the Sift I got to the plex easily. This time I seem to be going backwards. I REALLY wish I could use my scanner at this point. 305km? That's not too far off grid...could almost see it and it's killing me.

I've actually been having the same problems today as well, spent 9 hours trying to probe down two signatures. I only ended up getting one, still haven't gotten the other. I was using the right probes and I also have experience, so maybe it's something broken server-side. Or nobody's rolling twenties today, I dunno. Chance based systems suck ass. -----

Rest easy Humpalot, I know the pain, i know the strugle, best i can offer in way of comfort is check out the Exlpoloration guide few times amonth, as i do, and have found something usefull every time.
But on a simaler not, im finding it difficalt to make percison bookmakrs for scaning, I have tryed using my MWd to drain the cap then warp, also doing the BM in warp, and using alts to warp to while they are in mid-warp. My question is this. Is thier an easyer way?
Ps, if this is a hijacking i apolagie to the opt of the Topic :(

I scanned out a similar gravimetric signature (i guess). Took me 4 hours to get it, but it was worth it: Large Kernite Omber Belt ;) We mined 2 days non-stop to get all the omber/kernite out there |

a quick hint since the last server side maintence thingy that went on 0.5 au probes have been made much harder if u have good astrometric triangulation and the other skill use a 1au and im finding it hits a target much more closley than the 0.5au ( 4au and 2au are ok but something got borked up with the 0.5au ones) also noticed the signal strength of most exploration sites was cut in half = twice as hard to find CCP either need to readjust or look at it i think they either did it deliberate or buggered something up
Have bug repoted the gravimetric seems to be the only one 0.5au wise that is working proplery ( radar, ladar and magometric are stuffed at this time)
