bloody scammers!!!!! thast what!!!
i have just discovered that i stand to loose 180mil through bloody scammers and dodgy contracts,
now excuse me if i am wrong but i believe they got rid of escrow as it was plagued by scamers and they wanted to stop people getting ripped off? so how come they can now scam with contracts!! i bid on 3 contracts for large amounts of minerals as i am trying to build a dread (takes a lot of isk to buy and isk is at a premium) now each of theese contrctas stated that they were for large amount so i bid. won the first contract and then as i check asets find out i have 1 unit of the bloody stuff not the 95mil i thught i was buying!!
so i do what most do and send a petition to exploits and re-inbursements.........
what do i get back.............'its allowed in the game mechanics'
so note to all noobs dont bother mission running, mining, building. its more profitable to follow 'game mechanics' and scam the hell out of the hard working players and get all there isk!!!
now i can see whats going to happen next, i will get some mod pop up on here and give me a telling off or may even delete/block this post, or even worse i will get called stupid for trusting ccp's new contracts but the end matter is why should i continue playing when i face theese risks, i put up with server crashes, massive lag (think saila is worse than jita theese days) bugs and even an occasional ship loss (crashtodesktop bug)
so come on ccp tell me, 'why should i pay to play' when its obvious its doesnt pay to play

Gah - Time of the month.
Scammers is part of eve. If you dont watch what you're buying and what you're doing, you will get screwed over. That is eve, and thats why its full of more mature players, compared to WoW.
Either be thankful of havign the ability to be in this community, as to apposed to WoW, or go join WoW.
I personally am glad there are scammers in eve, otherwise we wouldnt have the diversity of the economy and environment we do today.

Scamming is *part of* the play - just like blowing someone's ship up (and that can cost someone vastly more than 180M btw). In answer to your question: there's no reason at all why you shouldn't do the same. Good luck.
CCP makes the rules, but they don't enforce the laws. Instead, YOU get to do that.
Welcome to EVE!
PS Biggest EVE scam ever was IIRC 700 BILLION Isk. That was ruled game-legal too.

Well maybe you should have straped on some miner II's and get some friends to help ya, and mined the bloody stuff yours self....Buying massive amounts of minerals from unknown parties, is just supporting the ISK sellers.
Better yet get a contract with a mining corp. I bet you can save some cash...

You weren't careful and now you're paying the price. If I convince someone to send me a billion isk as a loan, then I decide not to pay them back, I'm certainly within game mechanics. Sure, I deceived them, but I didn't exploit in any way.

Lol, bless freeform contracts.
Sorry about your loss, but you've got to keep your eyes open in EVE, especially when trading. With FF contracts, the little icon of what you're buying has the number of the item written on it, as with a stack of items in your hangar. As with items on your hangar, if there is only one item, no number appears- it assumes you realise that no numbers implies 1 item ("a monkey" = 1x monkey, there is no need to say "1x" before it, its implied).
Its not CCP's business to make sure you don't make mistakes. Part of EVE's charm is that anything goes................
As to "why should I pay to play?". Do you enjoy playing EVE? If yes, keep paying, keep playing. If no, play a different game that you will enjoy. -----------------------------------------------

i love playing eve, i have been playing a little under a year and have just made the step to running my corp. the contract was an auction and not freeform and stated the 95mil units, i never normally buy mins through cntract but the amounts required to build a dread are huge!!! i am not stupid, have never been caught by gate campers with billions of isk of bpo's (previous corp ceo did) and i always used to check escrow deals in details. as i said i believed they had removed this type of scam from game.

First of all: Scamming is allowed!
Now when that is said, its pretty easy to see what is scam and not when it comes to Auction anyway. (Consider all freeforms to be scam)
A contract have two headers. The first header is the one the game itself makes depending on the item you select. Now, if it says like:
TRITANIUM Tritanium x 1000000000
If the header looks like this its a scam. Yes, its tritanium which is for sale, but only one unit. The text "Tritanium x 100000000" is free text the seller adds! Now, how would a real header look:
TRITANIUM X 10000000000 Tritanium x 10000000000
The game will automatically add how many items there is in the stack in the main header. So if its only 1 unit in the stack it just says TRITANIUM, while if its more TRITANIUM X 100000000 (for example)
Morale: Never trust what people add in freetext. Always see in the main header how many units there is of the item.
Also You have the tools to see through the scams. Use it!
Also, petitioning it adds to the everincreasing queue of worthless posts that leads to nothing.

First, if you consider playing a game a job you should take a brake.
Second, you pay to play a game with open rules. Tell us WHY it should not be allowed to scam ingame for ingame isk? You can do the same.
You LET that other guy take advantage of you. Pure and simple. Pay attention.

The word "a" implies "one", but it doesn't say "a" or "an" anywhere does it?
It's complete stupidity on CCP's part that they replaced the escrow system with the new contracts system, and left this bug in place.
It's an absolutely ridiculous piece of design that allows the player to show a description of Trit x 1,000,000 or whatever, and the official game counter is tucked away and only shows the amount if it's greater than one.
I mean, come one, that's not logical, is it?
Unless of course CCP introduced that for the sole purpose of making scamming fairly easy. In fact it would actively involve extra code to not make it show "x1", so I wonder if it is by design.

It doesn't matter if it says "a Trit" or "Trit x 1" or "bogglebeepblorp Trit" you know that just the icon means there's 1 item in the contract. If you don't, you can find out rather easily.
The final confirmation window you get will even say the precious Trit x 1 on it I believe? But most people turn that off I guess or never read pop up warnings? Who knows.

It is simple from what I read. Standard exchange contract or auction write selling 95 million tritanium in description put 1 unit of tritanium on sale the system don't put numbers in his description as 1 item is supposed intuitive (good for 1 ship, less for 1 tritanium) if you look the description you see 114 million unit of tritanium offered item "Tritanum" with no further description. First time you use the contract form you think the description is machine generate and voila - scammed.

Now, let's take a look at the issue from somewhat different angle.
Why did you use the contracts instead of just buying these minerals on the market in the first place?
Let me guess. ZOMG, Zydrine x 99756 for ONLY 100 million ISK!!!!111one! I will be rich!
If something sounds too good to be true, it IS too good to be true. You got a bit greedy. You did not read the contract description carefully enough. You did not read the forums. You did not read the warning that you are given when you accept the contract. As a result, you have got scammed.
I don't do contract scams myself, but I know a person who does. He told me that his response rate is way lower than 1 out of 10 for weeklong scam auctions. That tells me that very, very few people do fall for this elementary scam.
I am sorry, but you get no sympathy or compassion from me. I think you should consider this to be a great learning experience and move on.

A first-class, brilliant, outstanding suggestion.
The only one person you will annoy this way is the GM (who will have to reply to this pointless petition instead of taking care of other people's legitimate claims).
For your future reference, the number of contracts one can set up is limited by Contracting skill. No single person can "spam" the contracts like it was possible with old Escrow.
