And all this for "new players", and to bring more people into the game they say.

While I hate the general idea of skill injectors, really Op? Because Skill Injectors are the only thing your aur can buy? If they changes aur packages to perfectly align to skill packages then they would be out of alignment with something else. This is not an item where you can only use your aur on one thing. |

If you don't like having left over Aurum, or paying for Aurum, then don't. Instead:
Use ISK to buy the skill extractors off the market from other players. Fill them with your skill points. Sell the injectors to other players for ISK.
You can both sell skill points and buy them without ever touching Aurum.
Now, assuming skill points actually have value, you will have more ISK than before you bought the extractor. Let some other player, one who wants to use real money to get ISK, create the extractor and deal with the Aurum mis-match.
To all of you interested in spending real money and getting ISK, you do realize that getting Aurum and spending it on extractors, then selling the extractors for ISK may well get you more ISK than the PLEX route?

TIL that skill extractors are the only thing that you can use aurum for
If you go in to a shop with a $10 bill, do you complain that your shopping doesn't add up to $10 exactly? or do you use your change at another time?
I do think that you should be able to buy and sell aurum in game. |

I will voice my opinion here, rather than creating a new topic.
I'm very disappointed with the way CCP has priced Skill extractor packages. Especially after CCP Falcon stated that Extractor packages would align with AUR packages. I understand the pricing decision was probably outside of his control and don't blame him.
However, I see the pricing discrepancy (where you have to spend at least $10 to get the cheapest Extractor package) as an attempt to exploit a group of CCP's customers / players who should be hailed instead. As they are willing to give CCP extra money, beyond the standard subscription fee.
I would rather have a package of 4 extractors for 4 000 AUR than 5 for 4 499 AUR. It wouldn't make me feel abused; the current pricing does however.
This kind of behaviour wouldn't be out of ordinary for Trion, Sony Online Entertainment (Daybreak now) or EA; but I didn't expect it from CCP. Especially after Incarna and 2011. I thought CCP had learned something there. |

While it is a bit late, OP does have a mild point. WG.net started doing something like this a while back and earned more than a little player ire. Specifically the sales of items/features/services along with their products that the player base didn't want. eg. Buy vehicle X, Y or Z yet find it's only available with an excessive virtual currency package or additional things.
With enough feedback from that game's respective community the practice was changed. One can now buy most virtual products the way one wants to and not solely the way the marketing dept. had blindly initially intended. Oh you still can if you were going to buy the virtual currency anyway. But the option to buy ~only~ what you wanted is now a genuine choice.
If you're going to sell virtual products great. But do it sensibly rather than the aforementioned club and drink token scenario of a few posts back? :) |

If a club charged $10 for 9 tokens, and charged 10 tokens for a drink, it just wouldn't sit right with most people. Good example. CCP, stop your greedy tactics. No doubt someone in your finance department thought this was an amazing idea, but you're pissing everyone off. Stop it.

I was considering buying Aurum for the first time to support this feature but this is dumb. This is something I would expect WarGaming to do, not CCP.
Not sure why they can't just run a fair deal. I would support them more for their fairness and standing out from other developers. That means more to me and I would reward it, even if I didn't need Aurum right away.
I will likely just stick to trading the features with ISK rather than Aurum. Someone else can spend the money for it. And maybe that's the problem. Maybe there are too many people that don't see CCP's dumb trick, making it worthwhile for the company. |

i guess you could just ignore it, if nobody buys it then it forces ccp to rethink it, no need to cry about things that are not needed

I agree entirely. The Banking Industry paying nominal (Below inflation) rates to hold my money which they invest as a near zero interest loan (illegal for any other entity to do!) then have the audacity to charge me for USING that very same money! It's outrageou and expensive. My corporate bank account costs... oh wait? People are complaining about an optional thing in a video game that can be bought using in-game earned currency? Nevermind.... |

People will display outrage for everything even if it's about meaningless stuff. Pay a newspaper to make a front apge about a product no one use and hiking it's price and people will moan about it. |

I think this should be said after all the outcry; CCP made the prices into nice round numbers (1000 instead 999) and made them directly buyable with cash instead of forcing leftover Aurum onto you.
Skill extractors good or bad is a different discussion but I would once again like to thank CCP for addressing the concerns of the community. If it was already planned to be done this way, that would have been nice to know from the start. Would have saved a lot of drama ;) If not, thanks for the very timely response to said drama. Keep up the good work CCP.

Eh, they so far have created a promotion lasting for remaining days of february. If they wanted to address anything, they would have simply adjusted the prices permanently.
That aside the discussion of pathetic, desperate cashgrab those extractors are - instead of being a proper feature in a subscription game (meaning they or their BPOs aiming at desired ISK value/production difficulty would be seeded on the market)

Actually I was thinking it needed a little rebellion, last time CCP went down the greed is good route we threw up this huge outcry and forced them to change direction. The worst they did at that time was a monocle if I remember rightly. Now they're going full greed mode and almost pay2win, sounds about time for some monuments to get shot?

Giving credit where credit is due. While using AUR to purchase Skill extractors still leaves sour taste in my mouth (especially because after February's discount the pricing discrepancy will be back and the point I stated above will apply once again) I applaud the decision to allow customers purchase Skill extractors directly for normal currency. That's a great improvement.

I wish people would stop with the pay2win because its not. companies making money does not constitute greed, they have to make money somehow to maintain the game, they are a business and nothing is free in this world, they have costs to cover themselves.
Go shoot the monument, but if you stop a company making money then you will only end up shooting yourself when they cant afford to run servers and employ staff and shut just everything down because the business model aint worth continuing.
This doesnt even affect anyone's gameplay, 2 day old characters wont be jumping in machariels and taking over eve so calm down its not pay2win.
